Went out for lunch today and something caught my eye

With the mood the cabin crew have been in the last two years I treat that remark with some scepticism[;)][:D] Things might improve now though.............

Yes, I was running it is and didn't get to see what type of Merc is was other than it was E class sized

Did get a TT RS buzzing me on my way up to yourkshire for work, trying to cement himself to my tail in first the middle alnd thent he slow lane of the A!M bit nr peterbrough with 4 lanes.

Haddn't occured to him a) it was set on cruise cotnrol cause I had a long drive and was new to tc the car b) he would have been so much slower it wasn't even worth bothering

Ho hum

Meanwhile witht he all the ruuning about on motorways this week its mostly geting their for run in (there were a few miles on it when I bought it).

Time for some fun.......:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I think all that extreme accelleration has had an affect on your keyboard skills [:D][:D]

Its the withdrawal symptoms from the adrenaline rush or is it one of those b**D wireless keyboards that often don't register the keys properly becaause of the amount of rubbish on the desk[:-]

20mph into roundabout leading to national speed limit, 2 lane, Merc has seen me and is flooring it for all he is worth to get past, I am in manual mode in 4th gear, no sport or sport plus. Simply floor the throttle and blink - been teleported down the road, now doing 70-ish and Mer smudge in distance.
You have to to wonder what goes through these peoples' minds. What makes them think they have any chance keeping up with one of the fastest production cars in the world? Red rag to a bull I guess...

I knick named it "angry essex" syndrome a number of years ago, in their mind they are racing you. You provoked them by exisitng and having a nice car, a whole conversation with you can go on in their head because its all about them and their competition with the world.

The fact you the driver could not give a fig about the them, the other driver, would be the stuff of their worst nightmares, so you must be agqisnt them, trying to beat them and they are getting sooo angry[][][][]

So they have to beat you to prove the point..........and then they are even angrier and will take even bigger risks to "win"

Similar vein running here at the moment.......

Ta

Rant over

A couple of Essex locals I know expalined it as they get angry if they see a car like a Prosche or Ferrari not having its weheels driven off it.........

Light colour do show up the drit thoguht - off to the car wash then......

Well

Went out for an afternoon run with the new toy and the Mrs. Having run all over the country this last week for work, the cars mileage is past its running in period, it was dry and sunny for the first time since the toy arrived......[8D]

First observations - its a very different car in PDK auto vs PDK manual mode. In auto its like a tarted up merc AMG but in manual mode its much sharper and more repsonsive. I guess the computer isn't deciding what gear you should be in.

Handling is very different from the beast, 4wd and all that. The ride on the S is still pretty firm mind, not sure if that a new car thing and if it'll soften off when the miles increase.

Very easy about town in auto mode not that quick, but easy to drive and relaxing. Only gripe - Cermaics have a lot of bite high up the pedal so it goes from barely touching it to gently slow down to pulling your face off in a sudden 30-0 stop with only a minimal pedal pressure. However at speed its much more linear.

Sat nav a big improvement as is the Bose. The new Bose system is much, much better than the Gen 1.

So on my ususal back road route. Pootle along until the magic national limit sign appears. Knock the PDK selector into manual, use the paddles to go to 3rd gear 30mph, take it easy push pedal slowly to the floor over a couple of seconds, lift off immdeidately put cruise control on as your already at 60mph, in the blink of an eye

Mid range torque and ability to pick up speed point to point is astonishing.

Get to back roads, put in 3rd give it the beans, blummin quick point to point but also pretty agile through the corners (I am still taking it easy in cornmers until I get to know the card better)

Overtook 7 slow movivng cars together on a national limit road as a reflex

Final bit of mischief as road rund back to A road to head home. 2nd gear manual mode, 15rmph give it beans to attach velocity (7k red kline in 2nd) down the ramp road. it F*****g fast. simple as full stop, capital exclamation marks.

Acceleration forces you into the seat immediatly, if your heads not rocked back into the seat, the seat hits your head> it is massively strong surge of cceleration, very addictive and you end up holding onto the sterring wheel as though something is tyring to pull your arms off it. Strong self cotnrol is required to ensure one sticks to the speed limits[8|]

The car is more agile and repsonsive into corners than I remember the stock Gen 2 turbo to be. it definatley flows down the road nicely at pace, slight sporty growl to the exhaust in the process.

Can't wait to try out sports and sports+ as well as get it on a proper run onw ide swoop roads, as opposed to the tight, narrow, nagety roads around here.

So far, big thumbs up:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

The acceleration is laugh out loud comically quick but from driving it ther is already signs that there is a lot more ott he car than pure acceleration.

In my Turbo S cab test drive today I spent whole time in sport plus mode as others far too laggy for my liking. Manual mode definitely the way to go...

Tom, you soon get use to 500+ HP and start wanting more! Give it 6 months and your neck won't even notice a full blooded acceleration burst.

Oh by the way, even with overboost just like my stock 997.1 Turbo I couldn't get up to 1.2 bar boost, 1.1 was the limit. Only after remap did it go to 1.0 and 1.2 bar. Let me know what you see on yours.

There is no such thing as too much power, the more you get, the more you want.

For the moment 530hp is just fine for me, once I am used to it, however, it might be a different matter
