what did you do to your 944 today

I think the PF97 pads have better feel but Pagid RS29s are better for last of the late braking manoeuvres !The PF pads Do spark at night quite dramatically which is fun!

Just got my car back from Promax after they fitted the new brake calipers all round and Ferodo DS2500 pads, gotta say much more confidence under braking as you would expect and no noise which I was a little worried about. Bedded in nicely and ready for Silverstone on the 1st. Ed

Wax your wheels!!The PF dust is stickier than a sticky thing on a blanket!Have fun over there!!! The PF pads Do spark at night
Absolutely superb pads. Clean it off immediately as it rusts as they eat discs hence the sparks as its like angle grinder sparks on yer wheel lacquer but................the most progressive pads I have ever used, if I could afford to have them made for my Golf I would. Ruined my perfick trackday D90`s though - best way is to paint your wheels anthracite and ignore it[;)]

Cant you change to caliper that they already support Paul? Id expect that adapters are readily available for this.

Dropped her off at OPC for free health check and belt tensioning having covered 2k since the belly renewal. Will collect in the morning as only just on the way home from work. []

Re-built the gearlever-to-transfer rod in accordance with the guide which is available somewhere on t'interweb. Stainless steel pin made for the gearstick and screwed in place of the old one. Gearshift is noticably crisper now, with a lot of the very loose free play removed! (Downside is that it all needs adjustment, and it's occasionally difficult to get into 5th. It's also highlighted the fact that there is still a lot of play in the various attachments at the back on top of the 'box! []) Oli.

I`ve already upgraded the fronts to VX calipers with DS2500 pads and Motul fluid and installed rear discs via a proportioning valve so now have a slightly larger vented disc with a greater pad area and it brakes superbly well and if well driven (by my son) hunts down a few cars amazingly well for a 30 year understeery old tin box. Many years ago I rolled a Ginetta G27 V8 big time and am lucky to be here so my bottle isnt what it was. I could go down the route of Wilwoods etc with an adapter and it would save unsprung weight and all that but I`m not afraid to say that over the years and in many cars I am one of the track day artists that will admit if I tweak the car or spend a fortune on it it wont necessarily make any difference as the back to back testing is weeks apart and I can diet or eat in between [;)] PS: I`ll never forget an 18-20 stone Cateringvan driver who boasted about the fortune in carbon fibre bits and bobs and was on a never ending financial search to lose car weight who even had his half shafts line bored - all to save weight!!!!

Without realising that there was an easy 20kg to from the salad bar! I was thinking more about monoblock Porsche calipers, maybe even rears.

Yup, has been done. I`ve a mate who can machine stuff for me so its not too difficult but I`m about to mess with the MX5 over the winter so the Audi 1.8Turbo engine transplant into the Golf is on a back burner. Once done then I`ll need to think about bigger brakes [;)]

ORIGINAL: robwright Beer cans make excellent shims for the mechanism at the rear Oli. Of course you will to empty them first [;)]
Thanks Rob. Rebuilding that linkage has to be the next step, and that's a useful tip about the shims. (And I think you could coin the phrase "Off to make some shims" from your suggestion!) As it is, I removed the gearshift gaiters this afternoon to see what was going on down there and discovered that the circlip at the end of the gearstick pin had dropped off and the linkage was making a bid for freedom from the end of the pin! I've fixed it for now, but it looks like we've cut the groove on the end of the pin too deep and hence I'll have to buy another circlip. (Where do you find this sort of thing for sale? My local motor factor, who would have had a box of them to rootle through for pennies, closed a few years back and I simply don't know where to find this sort of thing anymore.) Oli.

Is it an NA (Mk1) that you have? What do you have planned for it?

Both washed and waxed using Mothers California Gold Caranuba, leather fed with Gliptone, both had a few mile run to warm up and use the brakes, glorious up here today ! [:D]

Today I fitted a set of night breaker bulbs, touched in some stone chips, treated the glass to some Rain X and fitted a piece of rubber trim missing from under the headlight inside the nose panel.

Today I did 5 or 6 full 360 degree spins in my 944 S3 in one 25 minute race, avoiding contact with another car that lost it,same car on both occasions...[]

Scott, try Rain-Xing the headlamps too, it makes a worthwhile difference. Jim, you cant feed plastic coated leather...

Thank you for that, im now going outside to change out one of my flashing door pins so I will do that at the same time [;)]

Got the leak fixed yesterday from pipe going from waste gate to the exhaust so no more fumes in the cabin when sat in traffic. Then drove down to Oxford to see the folks for the weekend. Car is quick but thoughts of more boost are already entering my head. Oh dear, think I may have the bug already! :D

Gave the old 220 a run to Cockermouth, back road to Bassentwaite on to Keswick and back via the A66, stripped and cleaned the indicator lenses, cleaned the reflectors and added some shiny "lagging" tape, indicators are now nice and bright.
