what did you do to your 944 today

ORIGINAL: edh True - I wanted a CDR-22 for my Boxster to replace the modern and completely out of place Parrot unit - £100-150 on ebay, £50 from PH sportscars [:D]

Then called OPC Exeter to find brand new bits were half the price of the Ebay tat. Which was nice.
Can't say this too often. Putting it in the faqs doesn't seem to be enough! Whatever you need, call Porsche first. Then, at least you have a guide price, even if it's unavailable or silly money. Then, try the specialist suppliers, T911 will always give you the best options, and even sent me to ebay for the stone guards as they were as good, but cheaper, than he could supply. Then, try the breakers in the faqs such as Elliot at Porkaparts. Also, check the "alternative parts" faq, and any more options there are always gratefully received. If none of these gets you what you need at a reasonable price, only then should you risk ebay. Too many people are sucked in by the "Porsche parts are expensive" myth, and assume that every ebay seller is doing them a favour. [&o]
Yes, Id call PH long first.

I'd have to say Paul's pricing is better than most - but i can imagine it being more difficult to deal with him remotely - by phone or email. I am lucky that i can just pop down there and nag him (or Rob) until they get me what I want.

Paul has been difficult to deal with for a long time. Before he lost interest he was so busy that you couldnt get hold of him. Ive been trying to work out what I was trying to say in my post above. I have finally realised that I had initially written 'long before the other breaker mentiioned', but I altered it to 'first'. [:D]

You are lucky to be that close. I have twice driven the 40 miles or so up to his place, hung around for half an hour whilst someone goes hunting around the various buildings only to be told it turns out they didn't have the part they promised on the phone after all [&o] It's a real shame, because you guys give him loads of hearty recommendations and his prices are obviously way way cheaper than even a few miles south but I won't risk my time again. Actually, next time I'll just call you and you can sort it out for me [;)]

You can only deal with Paul, unfortunately. He used to work twelve hours a day six days a week, but those days are long passed now.

We'll I've got to go there in the next few days to pick up my car.. [:D] It just needed a bit of extra fettling from the bodyshop - bits they didn't get quite right first time. I don't think he has that much 944 stuff now - sold a lot to Elliot I think. I did manage to get a Cayman 17" wheel from him, which completes a second set of wheels for the 944. You can never have too many wheels...

Got a bit further on with dyeing and replacing the carpets:

Only to find that the bits I had wouldn't fit around the (what I now know to be) rear seatbelt mounts, so ordered the right bits and got on with fitting the door handles into my new door cards. Still got to put the door pin back in and cut the window switch holes before screwing it together properly:

And then finally lost my rag with the Clifford alarm system that had been installed by Stevie Wonder! Metres and metres of bundled wire came out that the installer had bunged behind the dash rather than cut down properly. Got an Auto-electrician coming on Tuesday to remove and remake the fuse box connections:

Have also fitted the electric window mechanism into the driver's side and will do the passenger side when I can turn the car round in the garage (suppose I'd better fit a driver's seat for that). Anyone know what the going rate is for manual window mechs and 924 handles?

I meant, I have the regulators and handles. Given I'm spending money hand over fist at the moment I was going to sell the manual parts but didn't know what they were worth?

That depends on who and how much they want them Dave. Ive seen drivers sides advertised for over £100! I have a couple of sets but I hoard things like this. [:D]

Got to drive my car for the first time today! Took here out for a 30-40mile drive and ginned/still grinning like a goon, well worth the month long wait! I even got waved at by some random drunk outside a pub lol.

Cheers man, I already knew why people loved the cars and now I really do and can see why after 11 years your still smiling. I enjoyed the odd look I got from a couple of people in the petrol station as well when I filled up as well.

Collected the car from the bodyshop after getting a few stonechips removed from the front bumper and bonnet. Not had a chance to give it a clean yet, but happy with the paintwork [:)]
