what did you do to your 944 today

4 wheel drift on the limit!! Nice one Edd [:)] Wonder if you saw Wheeler Dealers setting up an Aston Martin in the same way as yours. Very interesting to learn about toe in, camber angles and dangles etc and they had a great machine/screen to do it with.

ORIGINAL: Copperman05 Took the car to Center Gravity yesterday for complete chassis tune. Car had already been setup by Promax, once after they fitted the kw and once again after fitting my refurbed rack. However, after fitting the 17 wheels I found the car quite skittish over B roads and suffering from tramlining. I also wanted to try the kw on some fast road settings so that they were a bit more compliant for our roads. I'm really impressed with the work they have done, I spent a total of 9 hours with Chris and Pete working on the car, discussing the theory's behind good chassis setup, etc. Chris took me out for a test drive both before and after to find out how the car behaved and how it had been improved. I must say Chris has now got it spot on to how I wanted it, the car feels much better as a result, rather than an old car with new (and hard) suspension it now feels much more like a modern car to drive. Chris has dialled out some the toe and rear camber and the result is a much more balanced car with nice crisp turn-in, and 4 wheel drift on the limit. Also ride height was adjusted at the front as it was sitting lower than the rear and not level as prescribed by Porsche. Attention to detail was impressive as even the weight of the driver was accounted for and ride height adjusted on off-side to account for it. I have to say I wasnt expecting massive changes as the car was setup by promax last year but I have been pleasantly suprised just by how good it now feels. It rides smoother with less tyre noise and even seems to roll easier (which I assume was a result of there being too much toe-in both front and rear before), car even feels quicker tbo. I imagine tyre wear and mpg will also improve. I have pdf of the work carried out if people are interested? Here is the car being corner weighted - was a total of 1388KG with 75kg of driver ballast and half tank fuel. Geo on Beissbarth machine Chris operating the geo machine I'm a bit annoyed that Chris found play in my recently refurbed steering rack, looks like I may have to take this up with the company that did it. Edd
Edd next time your down in Cornwall you shall have to let me know mate, really want to see your car now, the more I read what youve done the better it sounds each time!

What that old goldy coloured thing with black wheels, wrong coloured stone guards and silly seats!! [:D][:D][:D][:D] Oh yes it is rather nice [8D]

Consider it done Will. Having an S2 does mean that there is little to be done engine wise, so I concentrate on the chassis, the 944 chassis is a good baseline to build on and its certainly getting to where I want it. Edd

Nowt wrong with Kalahari (Gold) car sounds great Edd, i have met Chris a couple of times, i am off to Oulton Park next Friday (Porsche Track Day) he is usually there. Jim.

looking forward to getting mine done[:)] I'm booked in on April 2nd ....if the cars back together by then...which is looking slightly doubtfull [:(]

Opened her up properly for the first real time today on a great bit of coastal road just up from my house, safe to say was grinning so much, but touched cloth in a few places lol , the car keeps giving me more and more confidence though with every trip [:D]

Sweet sounds like a plan then mate also looking forward to seeing that nice interior as well lol! That makes sense no point into pumping money into something where you will see little improvement where you can put it else where and see noticeable improvement.

ORIGINAL: Copperman05 Here is the [link=http://www.filedropper.com/mergeddocument-3]pdf[/link]. Chris suggests that nose down can reduce braking efficiency under hard braking, although nose down maybe more desirable for the track? I hope theres no confirmation bias [:D], I can see why he comes well recommended... Chris was driving round tight roundabout and it was damp and cold, ad08's did surprisingly well even in those conditions though.
Interesting scans there Edd. Has Chris now got a machine which tests how knackered your suspension is?

Hi Edd, Looks great - hoping to passenger in yours at Bedford for a few laps (if that's ok) to feel how a 944 should be! Although it will probably end up with me spending my yearly running budget 3x over in one go! Craig

ORIGINAL: Copperman05 Here is the [link=http://www.filedropper.com/mergeddocument-3]pdf[/link]. In regards to the settings, for a track car I think they would be different, Chris says that the Ad08's do work very well on track with about 2Ëš neg camber but that this compromises braking and stability on the road. Porsche specs are zero camber, so we have compromised a little with 1Ëš camber for my car. Definitely recommended if you ever get the opportunity Ed. Note: I think the (after) rear rebound is wrong on that print out (partly my fault), is says 1.25 turns but I think it was factory +25% (whatever that is). Promax had the rear rebound up quite hard (3/4 turn only) compared to the rest of the settings which were pretty much as factory.
Thanks for the info - looks pretty similar to how my car was set up at Promax - although I now have -3deg of camber on each front wheel [:D] Makes it a little lively on the road but better on the track. My dampers are set up as advised by KW (turns from full hard) Front bump 1 Front Rebound 1 Rear bump 0.5 Rear rebound 1.5 I could have a play with front ride height at Bedford to see if it makes any difference - from what I've read there's an aero advantage for lowering the front.

Yes it would appear so, he says it measures damping efficiency, which should be 0.3 for coilovers like the KW. Mine only being a year old were obviously fine. Edd

Of course, you'd be welcome to join me, although I'm no expert track day driver, car is now setup for fast road, I may harden off some of the settings before Bedford to suit, I guess thats the advantage of the KW and so might as well make use of the adjustment. I have to say I feel more confident doing so now we've had a tweek or two. If the cars a keeper the KW can make a great transformation and make for a proper drivers car. Edd

3Ëš neg camber sounds like fun! Bet it feels good on the corners though. I cant remember exactly what Chris said about front down but I remember it not being ideal for the road, more weight transfer issues apparently, seeing the car is 95% of the time on the road it makes sense to set it up that way. Chris Franklin may be coming to Bedford but perhaps just for the afternoon (he would need to sacrifice a day at the workshop), if he does I'm sure he can explain some more. Edd

nothing overly exciting but something thats been annoying me for a while is how crap the inside of the ashtray it looks and it has been used at some point in its life. So found I had some spare spray paint and lacquer decided to give it a scrub with a wire brush and some sandpaper give it a spray. Didn't want silver like it was think it looks smarter in black, and found some thin rubber matt for the inside aswell, please excuse all the grubbiness around the tray need to give the inside another clean;

Much better in my opinion and doubles up as a perfect coin and garage key tray aswell [:D]

ORIGINAL: Frenchy Will, serious OCD kicking in there [:D] but do not be discouraged as mine is also spotless.
I am glad I'm not the only one [:D] Lol I do have a real problem with the inside of a car and OCD, I hate little niggles here and there, my clock not sitting flush now after finding it was broken is driving me mental. everytime I get in I find something new that annoys me a little like a small scratch on the horn button, and a scratch on the sunroof headlining, and tbh there is what looks like a small burn on the ash tray slider below the handle bit so that will probably be replaced at some point lol. Funny thing is externally I like things looking good but I am terrible for cleaning and normally wait until my dad does it, though in return I clean the inside of his as he hates that so mutually cancel each other out lol. Reading through some of my previous posts I have some seriously bad grammer, I should pre-read things before posting them, but I barely done it with my dissertation so not likely to do it on here, so apologies to anyone reading my ramblings that look like they are typed by a 5year old.
