what did you do to your 944 today

ORIGINAL: A9XXC Even the Americans can't make that much of a mess of English, must be the Germans as they are obviously OEM......
O ye they are definitely OEM parts! [;)] lol Those cup 1's look well nice, jealous!

Had a new windscreen fitted so I now have something to attach my tax disc to. Fitted the wipers back and the driver's seat and harness. Also had my front wheels shod with Michelin PS3s and there's a £50 fuel card offer on at the moment as well - Brucie Bonus! Need to replace the A-pillar and sun visor trim now and then a couple of other jobs before her first run out for nearly 5 months.

Will get some more in-depth ones when it's out of the garage and finished-ish but she's scrubbing up well:

Just got my 944 back from Peterborough Trim Repairs - they did a superb job of repairing damage caused by a fence in the snow - nasty cuts, scrapes and lots of paint removed in strips by the fence-posts, barbed wire and chicken-wire. As the car has been resprayed in the past, they used their high-tech colour-matching gizmo (analyses the colour from 4 different angles) to get a perfect match which needless to say is not quite the original paint. Next job is to fit the Cup 1's that they powder-coated last month. Then get winter tyres on the teledials ready for the next snowfall! (Continental Wintercontacts seem to get the best overall reviews)

Took all four calipers off, all the pistons out of all the calipers and cleaned them, inspected the seals for damage and the plates for lift. No plate lift anywhere (even on the back, which I did about 6 years ago). Which is good. I knew one of the caliper pistons on the front was a bit of a mess, so I put a replacement in (from OPC, £40.25p. Not too much, but a heck of a lot for a simple bit of casting! And outrageous when you consider the newer-style pistons are more complex and yet cost about a tenner.) I also swapped the hex-head bolts holding the plates in for some insert-head cap screws. M6x12, should anyone want to do the same. The hex-head bolts are probably better in the long run but the pads never cleared them quite as well as I would have liked, and given that I have slight shimmy under braking, from an unidentified source, removing anything non-standard is a good idea. I also made up a new bit of brake pipe for the O/S/R, from the flexi to the back of the caliper. The connector at the caliper end of the old one was a bit manky so a new pipe was in order. And, while I was at it, I changed all the bleed nipples on the calipers too - one of them was starting to round off, and a bag of replacement nipples was very cheap on eBay. (They are the same fitting as Ford calipers, and the Ford ones cost a fraction of the Brembo ones ... ) While I had the rear calipers off I took the rear disks off as well, to wire-brush the inside of the brake drum. The handbrake is very rarely used, and hence it rusts a little in there. Cleaning it up from time to time is not bad idea. I put some lubrication on the shoe mechanisms (Bilt Hamber Ferrusol) to keep them all moving happily. Then re-attached disks and calipers, bled the whole lot (fresh fluid) and admired my workmanship! (That's not true - I cleaned up and had a hot shower; working outside in the rain is never fun.) Will drive it this evening to see what it's like. Fingers crossed, that shimmy will have gone away. Oli.

good days work Oli , hope you notice a difference , sure you will. Fitted new wiper blades , quiet now. Talced the p steering and alternator belts just to make sure the strange noise was just belts needing adjustment and nothing more sinister. Will adjust when weather better. Nick [:D]

when to OPC and picked up new fuel lines and suspension bushes[:)] laser cut some metal disc's that exactly fit into the seal rebate on the brake calipers so I can protect the bores when powdercoating

Very nice. Are you in the fabrication business? I discovered that if you completely drain the calipers they are a pain to bleed, with air getting stuck in odd corners and ensuing lousy brakes! However if you leave them overnight then the air bubbles collect by the bleed nipples and it's a cinch to bleed a bubble out of each one, and the brakes are then excellent! Oh, and foxing the brake pad wear sensors (shorting the two terminals out on the plug) so you don't need to fit them makes the whole caliper and pad arrangement much cleaner and simpler. I'm wondering why I didn't do it years ago. Oli.

Collected the S2 from Hartech this morning, superb service from the lads, clean bill of health in all aspects backed up by a six page report, also good to know that the belts and chain have been taken care of.

Re-indexed the torsion bar and liking the new look [:)] Not bad going 10 hrs in total to do the job including Geo - pleased with that.
