what did you do to your 944 today

Replaced the battery and its a remarkable difference in starting. Spins fast and is running in about a second. Much better than the previous slow turning over for three or four seconds. That done I took it out for first fair weather drive of the year. Superb drive down some nice twisty bits then a blast back down motorway to blow out any cobwebs. Very happy...
 
Cleaned the fuel tank.....It's a pain removing all the old underseal.....it was looking a bit tatty but 3 coats of POLYTROL sorted it out[:)]

Had a run out at the weekend and was being driven mad by the door cards rattling and the hatch squeaking. I've just got to finish outing my bridge spoiler back together and will be swapping that over so there's no point worrying about the hatch right now but the door cards could be sorted. It would also give me the opportunity to install my 964RS-style door pulls. I'd screwed the carbon cards into the door but they rattled and banged so I put some sound deadening sheets around the flat parts of the door and then some self-adhesive foam door sealer strip over all the raised edges that would make contact with the card: Tron doors:

Next was to position the 964RS pull cover , make a hole for the slot and screw it in place. We come in peace earthlings:

And then cut the seatbelt fabric down, make a hole in the ends and seal them with a lighter before bolting it to one of the window mechanism points and feeding it through the cover. Screwed the door card back on and hey presto quiet doors I can actually close easily:

The trim guy is coming to carpet the rear this week hopefully so with some of the remaining sound deadening I covered the rear squab in an attempt to make it a little more hospitable inside:

Jacked up car (first time) took nearside wheels off, mainly to see if I could get the nuts undone in case of a flat tyre. Wire brushed the rusty callipers and decided to shoot over to Halfords in the BMW for some nice shiny black paint. On the way back lost power and then the engine sounded like a machine gun [&:] Nice RAC man arrived quickly and after sharp intake of breath towed me to my friendly local garage for analysis (wish me luck) Got a lift home, re fitted the wheels and now the 944 has become my daily driver it seems! [;)]
 
Re-fitted radiator and spent 3 hrs cleaning all the paint off of the bat wing and then put that back on as well. Head etc to go back together and on over the weekend.Also rescued door glass from the roof of the spray booth. OMG 3 inches of paint dust and crap on them took me 2 hrs to get them see through again.( thats what happens when you leave stuff lying in a paint shop for 4 years lol )
 
Had the rear seat squab carpeted and then bolted in the rollcage. Carpet looks quite rucked in the picture but it's settled and pulled down now so looks much better:

Put the seats back in and re-attached the harnesses. Now much safer and more comfortable too:

Replaced some broken (and rattling) dash trim pieces.
I just did that too; repaired them by running a soldering iron along the cracks on the rear side of the plastic trim pieces - better than glue but has to be out of sight of course.

Unfortunately mine was beyond repair. Some car-proud individual had at some point snapped it in two at one end and then attached it with double-sided sticky tape.
 
Booked Das Panzer in to have new rear discs and pads, and to have the damage assessed that was caused by a recovery clown last Winter. That will cost them dear. Fiddled with my centre console in anticipation of the Royal Mail finally sorting themselves out and delivering my CD holder. Measured the inside of my spare wheel with a view to adapting a small sparewheel bag to fit within it.
 
I'd had the pieces for my bridge spoiler painted gloss black to match the wheels so it was time to get it all screwed back together and the hockey sticks bonded on:

And a couple of days later once it was all set, I swapped it over onto the car this morning:

Fixed a fuel leak (well it was a nice RAC man really) Observant motorist signalled to me on M1, whilst Donington bound and I managed to pull over onto slip road for Loughborough. Called RAC and soon after motorway patrol guys arrived. They were really supportive and efficient, setting out cones etc and talking fire service out of attending (normally obligatory with any fuel leak) as they apparently cut your battery cables and cover the car in foam [&:] It was a small drip and RAC man replaced small rubber pipe between tank and pump. We were on our way in within an hour...brilliant! Many thanks to all involved [:)]

Replaced the sun visors and sun visor clips on Das Panzer. The clips cost £3 each from an OPC, but some clowns are selling them for £13-odd a pair plus postage on eBay. The visors arent new, but theyre virtually unused as I took them off a nearly new car. I shudder to think that they would cost new from your friendly OPC!
