what did you do to your 944 today

Came back from holiday, and enjoyed taking it for a spin after the underpowered hire car. Alas, during the drive it sprang a petrol leak from somewhere under the fuel tank. [] Luckily(!) it's due in the garage on Friday anyway for MOT and some other bits - I'll add this to the list...

ORIGINAL: edh m030 suspension kit for the Boxster. I needed a new rear arb and at just under £600 for dampers, springs, arb's and bushes it was too good a bargain to pass up [:D]
I wish that all round shocks, springs, arbs and bushes was that price for a 944 from the OPC. It would more likely be four times that amount at a guess! []

The pricing is a bit of an anomaly - I would think that the sum of the individual parts cost is around £2k. My Boxster is on original springs & dampers so will need replacing at some point in the future. Even 4 standard Bilsteins will be IRO £800.

yesterday I picked my car up from my local garage after he put a new clutch in ! the issues were alot of backlash in the drivetrain ,and very bad vibrations ,I thought it was the clutch on the drive me home tangs but the engine also is a bit rough ,knocking when cold and had loads of issues with the idle speed even after replacing alot of parts right the mechanic showed me the clutch lol it was missing half the rubber donut ,and the drive me home tang were on there last legs , now ;- all I can say is :) lol backlash sorted, vibrations sorted ,engine roughness and knocking sorted as it must have been the inbalance caused by the clutch ,even the dam idle issue sorted ;-) its drives beautiful now very pleased

Just to rub it in - final price inc. VAT was £546 [:D][:D]

Mark you still in Cornwall are you?

I caned it! Inadvertantly ended up sliding slightly sideways up the road for fifty to seventy five metres. Caught out due to lack of concentration / failure to keep half an eye on the boost gauge / the still damp road. [:D]

Had a spare afternoon so stripped the brakes down and cleaned out. What a state they were in , hadn't been touched for 2 years since complete rebuild. I had a slight vibration when braking hard from speed and a whine like a bearing shot at speed both gone now.The rear calipers had very tight pads and I think they were sticking. What a poor bit of engineering the sensors are 3 broke up on removal so wired them out - only 2 yrs old. No plate lift just very very dirty and built up muck ! Nick

Got front alignments checked after the usual replacement suspension arm issue...They were still good so it's off to castle Combe on Friday for a hoped for dry track day. Incidentally...... Car failed MOT because of play in the suspension arm ball joint. Ordered a replacement kit from the boys in Hainault but it would not fit. Checked with them that it was for the S2 not pre-85 944. Mechanic said it would not have fitted either arm. Anyone else had this issue? A £60 job ballooned into a £400 job.

Picked up my refurbished D90's. Ordered timing and balance belt kits. Picked up fuel hose from OPC. Basically, I spent lots of money on mine today!

Ragged the car around Castle Combe finding the next limiting factor in the never ending chase of discovering what needs to be done next to build a quick track day car. Coilover suspension and track tyres COMPLETELY transform the car. My son could not believe the difference. Its no longer a fight to stay on circuit! Inevitably, other components are suddenly under more stress and today it was the brakes turn. Finding the pedal going to the floor on Avon Rise is probably not the best place!. But we made it round quarry and limped back to the pits and went off to get new brake fluid put in. We were probably guilty of being too hard on the brakes but we were having fun! Next stop, some cooling vents methinks plus continued driver education.[:D] One thing stands out in all of this. What a fantastic, smooth, tractable and forgiving device the S2 engine is. When its on song, its difficult to believe its a straight 4. It pulls like a train, lap after lap. Fabtastic!

got the outside and inside cleaned looking pretty. Dusted out her garage and now looking at planning to seal and paint the floor and paint the walls :)
