Popped down to South Coast Performance at lunchtime to meet Tim Bomford of Envy Valeting in the UK and see what could be done about the car's appearance. The bonnet and roof have been suffering some oxidation and tbh I'm not sure what the p.o ever did with regard to paint care. After a quick machine polish test showed the paint to be in decent fettle and brought up a nice bright red, I'm booked in for a detail and polish on Bank Hol Monday. Hopefully (he visits the island every yr so it's not his unit) I can go along and watch/have a go/ask questions so I can kep the car in tiptop condition going forwards. Will take a before and after pic. Looking forward to the results!

The actual exhaust pipe is actually in very good condition, just a badly cracked weld where it joins the rear of the silencer which I have re-welded a couple of times. So if anyone wants the pipe-to make up a rear system with an aftermarket silencer, you are welcome to pick it up .
Took it for detail and polish courtesy of Envy Valeting, and am stunned by the results. Best £200 spent so far[]
Really don't like that aerial though, need to find something in shorter and in black so it's a bit less obtrusive. Anyone recommend anything? Doesn't have to be top end as I rarely listen to the radio (ever).
So far it's been a busy bank holiday weekend get the 944 serviced and fettled for Le Mans. The jobs that have been completed so far are: 1. Air filter change 2. Oil change and filter 3. Replace Spark plugs 4. Check brake pads and discs 5. Bleed brakes 6. Adjust front wheel bearings 7. Checked car for wear and leaks. The next jobs are to complete the rust proofing and fix the sun roof. The interesting thing about this is that this is the first time I have serviced my car to this degree and I recommend it to anyone with a 944. Y Youtube videos and Clarke's garage have been a fantastic resource and buying the parts from various sites on the web has been a doddle. Next on the list are the timing belts, alternator belt and power steering belt.....

Looks like a great job.. the aerial should be in the screen? You shouldn't need that at all.. Connections can fail & I think there's a small amplifier that also fails sometimesORIGINAL: Worsey Took it for detail and polish courtesy of Envy Valeting, and am stunned by the results. Fixed my passenger door window mechanism this last week/weekend-absolutely seized solid when I took the mechanism out although motor was OK from continuity point of view, Removed motor, spur gear pinion on motor solid ,but no bearing wear apparent at that stage-but motor wouldn't budge when current applied in either direction-same with the window mechanism-absolutely solid. So masses of GT85,WD40 on both-applied a 22mm socket to motor pinion & with battery charger attached, flicked on/off whilst applying some force on the socket bar -eventually getting some movement-loads more spray grease etc ,left for 2 hrs, then same again with the socket -some hours later got it free. Similar principle applied to mechanism -eventually used a brass drift /lump hammer on the teeth of the 48tooth spur gear the motor pinion meshes with until it moved slightly, lashings more WD40/grease & ultimately got it to free -2/3hrs later I could rotate the arm easily until happy had got lubricant throughout the gear /actuator mechanism, then tested complete unit with motor back on -bingo. Unit replaced in door -help! wouldn't go down-so stripped switch -found the relevant contacts burnt -cleaned up ,now all OK & have both quiet & smooth driver's & passenger door operation.-Result.[]

Fanastic. What a lovely example! Those cup alloys really fill the arches well too. Much better looking than my inward CS alloys

Time for the bi- annual wash, couldn't find a drying cloth so found inspiration in the utility room. You'll have to guess what I used but I reckon I've discovered the future...& it's not garlick bread

Indeed. [] Not technically related to my 944, but last night I bought a Subaru Legacy Spec B to accompany said 944!

evening chaps today( well tonight) I went for short drive just to bed things in a little and to listen out for any unwanted sounds.....the car was a dream to drive...it's difficult to explain just how much better the car is from before...it's not just the engine power which I haven't even tested yet but the tightness of all of the components....steering, gearbox,..the general feel of the car. Took my wife with me tonight... she asked 'why are we going so slow?' we were doing 40 in a 30 but felt more like 10....the car is that tight and the engine was just bubbling along, it seemed not much above tickover. Anyway as I said i've been listening for any strange noises.....there is an intermittent sound as if something is knocking under the car...it's very light and not always there...tends to disappear when warmed up so may be some movement in the exhaust...I'll have a look when next on the ramps. i had another noise that confused me while sitting outside my son's garage waiting for him to lock up. The lights were on but I had turned the engine off and had this buzzing noise...I checked that I had turned off all of the fans and it was still there, unlike any noise before, certainly not the sound you get when the fan turns over at it's constant speed even when switched off. . It then dawned on me that the lights were still on and that we had fitted LEd's which have these lovely miniature fans that screw onto the back of each bulb...these were the strange noises...lol so the car has now done a grand total of 44 miles...best get some more miles in asap. tonight's run was a motorway affair using short bursts of full throttle in a high gear with little revs reached....and then lift off and let the car overrun...this is to help bed the rings in....i need to do this for a while before I can replace the mineral oil with proper stuff. although I have done no more than a few miles it's clear that this engine has far more power than before, pickup is very, very quick too and the best bit of all...no smoke, no horrid smells and no leaks........I'm a happy bunny.... Got my S2 running again after the imobiliser decided to imobilise the car some months ago. My car was fitted with the standard Porsche imobiliser (fitted in UK after the car is imported) It lives under the passenger seat and I think it failed due to water getting in from the rotten sunroof seal. To be fair when i opened the box up it didnt look like it had got very wet. Took a friend who is an electronic test engineer less than an hour to suss out the wiring, once we had connected the relevant wires the car started first turn key despite having not run for 7 months. Now to run it up for an MOT and see what it needs. Oh and fit a new sunroof seal

Had a DAB radio and Aerial fitted. FM reception has always been dismal in my car. DAB a huge improvement and the unit seems to have better FM too. Heads up Halfords are doing 20% off if you hand an old unit in to upgrade. Plus they seemed to take discount off twice so a result
Some nice shiny cars of late - looking good Haven't really posted much lately, but I've been plodding away with a few little jobs on my 951, haven't really used it much this year, which has annoyed me. Over the winter she developed a tailight problem, it wasn't the lamp as I had replaced it previously, so it must be a connection issue. A few days later a car wash session confirmed the cause, the clusters were filling with water, lol!! So I removed both rear light units to clean up the corrosion, and rewire as necessary. This is how they started, don't look too bad in these pics, but the contact points were pretty crusty - seems I didn't get a photo of the other side! 20150218_174441 by Hallsy01, on Flickr So I removed the lamp holders and cleaned them up as best I could: 20150219_181532 by Hallsy01, on Flickr Then I cleaned the backing plates, replaced the crimps and repaired any cracked cabling - looking much better now: 20150220_180143 by Hallsy01, on Flickr The water is getting in in the usual places - hatch latch seals and the tailamp seals. I replaced the original mastic on my previous 944S and it's a tedious job getting it all off & perfectly clean. That's fine if you only ever intend to remove the lights once or twice in your ownership, but I have some paintwork planned for my 951 later in the year, so have decided ratehr than faffing about with the mastic each time, I have bought some neoprene gasket tape - hopefully it will be just as effective, but still allowing easy removal of the lights if necessary. The tape is still on my to do list, now the good weather is here I will get it done - I've a week off week after next so aiming to get a few bits done. Also over the winter period I had developed a bit of a tap which I suspected to be a sticky lifter. A couple of Porsche specialists had suggested trying a flush before going to bother of stripping the cambox down, and a friend of mine at a local Porsche/VAG specialist gave me a Forte engine flush and protector to try, which was nice of him So I left the engine flush idling for 40 mins, then drained and topped up with fresh Total Quartz 10w50 and a new Mahle OC142 - annoying as the oil was only 500 miles old!!! It does sound a little quieter, but I won't know for sure until I actually give her a proper run again. Whilst I was waiting for the flush to do it's business I removed the clocks as the temp gauge has been iffy since I bought the car, that and the centre vents are loose, so I wanted to do something to tighten those up. The clocks had had the rugby balls cleaned up previously, but I removed the individual temp/fuel gauge and made sure all connections were nice and clean, etc, also cleaned up the contacts on the resistor. Put it all back together ready to give it a try and..................the battery was flat!! So she's on the trickle charger at the mo, hopefully I will find the time to give it a try over the weekend. Then it's on to the next possible issue, I have a mild vibration on drivers side at idle - I suspect engine mount has failed. Annoying, as it hasn't long been replaced, but there was a mention from an indy having to shorten the bolts some time after it had been done, so possible it had been punctured due to using the wrong length bolts, also the heatshield looks very new, so depending when that was replaced it may have died prematurely due to heat. Not sure yet, need to get underneath and measure it. But I suspect I'll be changing it. Then hopefully I can start driving her again []

today i took a break from the running in process and gave the old girl a good polish, she's beginning to look her old self again. First impressions of the new build...WOW....she was fast before.... but now she's in a different league altogether. In the early runs I noticed her pull back under load although not under boost, when on boost she's mad, really mad..........now John at Vitesse did me an extra MAP( image) for the 55 lb injectors to run her in with and we set the chip switches to his instructions, however at first he had a problem sending the entire file that had all of the images listed so sent the details via email just for the 55's alone and we set the chip to that. As I said the car pulled back under load which confused me a little, only when we received the entire file did we know why. The image that John had sent had disabled all of the V-MAF+ completely, this would have been fine but we had moved sensors and was now using a different setup using the MAP sensor. We reset the switches to allow the 55's with V_MAF+ and the added features such as boost safety etc, to say that she flys is an understatement in the extreme. At these settings we are still using the normal ignition, John has sent a number of images for 80 lb injectors which have adjusted fueling and ignition in various 'more aggressive' stages.. I don't need those for a while when running her in....
