Anyway wasn't that ,found my infra red thermometer-engine only reading 62 degs so ordered new Bosch temperature sensor-£ 9.90 inc VAT & carriage hopefully arrives later today at Argus,Formby-& will be the cure. Can't see it being the gauge-it had a new water pump 2 years ago -& 6000miles so fingers crossed!

Don’t totally disregard the gauge. I removed the gauges from my 924 last summer, pulled them apart and cleaned up all the contacts and mounting points which made a noticeable difference to the temp the car ran at. From memory the temp and fuel gauge push into the main circuit board then small bolts hold it all together but the push in pins had a bit of corrosion on them after 34 years.
good luck!

Fitted new sensor--no difference-gauge right in the red after 2miles.
Replaced the other temperature sensor-same result.-now getting worried-started to consider attacking the gauge,Russ-then more thought analysis
so worried instead about replacement pump losing it's impellor-but seemed extreme after only 2.5 yrs & it was bought from ECP.
So drained all coolant ,searched for my spare thermostat, spacer washer & circlip & then found none of my,& my friend's internal circlip pliers would fit the circlip neither would open wide enough to remove the fitted one.
After 1 failed attempt with a new pair of Draper pliers from my very friendly Engineer's Merchants (22 mile round trip),I eventually had to make a another trip to Machine Mart in Liverpool (30 miles) & purchased their 10" Internal/External set which comes with straight,15,45 & 90 deg changeable tips, returning the Draper pair on the way home for a full refund-phew!
These were the only ones that I could see would fit given the protruding thermostat centre & even then whilst they open far enough ,presumably by virtue of scale ,the pin ends were too large for the circlip holes.
A few minutes with my Xmas present Dremel saw them reduced enough to fit & bingo, thermostat out, replaced with new kit, coolant replaced & as soon as temp gauge approaching 3/4 mark ,fan cuts in & then cycles reliably.
Examination of old thermostat which initially looked OK-it wasn't jammed shut -showed that the wax "bulb" had split so it was staying shut allowing the trapped coolant in the block to overheat & hence the gauge reading rammed against the RHS.
I have to thank my Wife for her sensible decision to get off the bypass road & ringing me for the engine not getting "cooked" when it initially happened

The plastic rod support was broken and the metal clip holding it on was missing, bought the two parts from Edinburgh OPC for a total of £1.20!
Glove box removed and parts fitted then put back together all in around 15 minutes so now have working heating again just in time for winter.

Firstly, I popped off both windscreen washer jet units and immersed them in a jar of hot water and the contents of a sachet of Oust All Purpose Descaler for 20 minutes. The removal of the units was made easier by someone having cut the wires for the heated nozzles at some point (probably when removed for repainting the bonnet several years ago) but heated nozzles are something I'm happy to live without! A coat of black trim dye had them looking like new too.
Refitted them today and went for a drive in the lovely weather and what a difference! Whereas previously there were 4 limp and erratic squirts of liquid in the vague direction of the windscreen, I now have 4 super-powerful jets of screenwash uniformly blasting at my screen.
A very satisfying, cheap and quick job that's recommended to all sufferers of cr*ppy washer jets.
Also, I removed the slightly saggy sun visors which (despite new clips and lots of adjusting) droop just enough for me to be constantly trying to push them up whilst driving - my OCD kicking in! There's now noticeably more light getting into the cabin without them there and all I have to do to replicate their function is to slightly tilt my head backwards so the sun disappears above the top of the screen.

New hinges made no improvement to mine I'm afraid. So much nicer driving today without the damn things catching my eye and irritating me.Waylander said:New hinges for the blinds sorts them out, they just pull out of the end of the visors

Would you believe it it took me about 15 mins to get it back in the garage! (Via some naughty little local B-roads)

I know some of those naughty B roads so understand how difficult it must have been-however whilst my wife finds it difficult to let us go up there in her 924S & possibly enjoy them-I was able to take her down to visit her friend who recently moved to Broadway provided we took it so I could go to Cornbury House on Sunday in a Porsche.
So 340 miles in smooth troublefree fashion in a 30 year old car now on 108 k miles mainly in the out side lane but rather more carefully with my management beside me

We are coming over this Thursday sadly in the BMW as expect to also go to B&Q to pick up a new shed for the cottage,on Friday morning & always need the room for tools, materials & the roof bars.
If you are passing Minorca crossroads anytime ,it's the 1st accessible house on the left(30m from the junction) going North-drop in for a coffee-Cairn Cottage.
I've got to empty the old & erect the new as we go back Monday evening.
George - thanks for the offer, will pop up after lunch if OK with you. Want to have a look at a house for sale just down the hill from you as well so can kill two birds!vitesse said:Lee,

A good way to spend a Sat afternoon.
Bought a spare pair of struts from EBay, had them blasted and lightly powder primed to protect them from corrosion whilst I mod them.
The threaded adapters came from Germany.
They will be going to get Tig welded then powder coated satin black.
cheers, Paul

Hi, Are these B6 Bilstein Inserts ?
If so why don't they fit the standard strut legs?
What year is your 2.5 8v N/A ?
