what did you do to your 944 today

It's Sunday, it was sunny, that can mean only one thing...take the car out for a good blast...fun drive, more so when one of those pesky Ford focus souped up things tried to play....let's just say I left him a little embarrassed....90-130 in secs with just a small blip of the throttle...later on checking the Apexi data log, I used 51% throttle and just under 1 BAR of boost.....I wonder how embarrassed he'd be if he could read this and realise that I was only using half throttle?...he's probably giving his mate a list of reasons over a pint right now why he was so slow...:) Some bikes had a play too...they may be 200bhp and far lighter but when up against a car with double that power and already in it's peak rev band, let's say they were a little surprised, they gave up and let me pass in the end. I have to say though that the dude who pulled wheelies in front of me at over a ton was impressive, I waved at him as I passed......disclaimer to say this all occurred on the autobahn you understand???....:)

You do make me smile sometimes Pete. For example, a MK2 Focus RS has a 2.5 litre 5 cylinder 20 valve turbo engine that could certainly make well over 400 bhp. Also I've got a bike with 195 bhp, 0-100 in 6 seconds, 0-140 in 10 seconds, top speed 190+ ,with a decent rider a 944 turbo wouldn't see which way it went. [:D]

Ahh...I never said the bikes were flat out...I just said they were surprised to have this Porsche pacing them....being an ex biker I'm well aware of their potential....regarding the Focus...he clearly didn't have 400bhp but even if he did the 944 is a much better car to handle such speeds than a jumped up saloon....btw my son has been commisioned to build a 400bhp+ focus...in this case an ST..he has a lot of experience in fast fords...

great weather,,,

,warmed up on the motorway before the twistys,,,,tyres seem very good,,,

forgot how really well she handles ,,,just loves being pushed,,,

going in for power steering? whine in the morning,,,,,jasonp

[:D] You're preaching to the converted Pete [;)]. Funny thing is a guy that works with my Mrs has a MK2 Focus RS and I had a sit in it today, if I was 20 years younger I'd seriously consider one. The engine is great and for a front wheel drive set up they stick to the road very well.

I hear what you're saying Paul...20 years ago I was very much a Ford boy racer but as I hit my late 30's I was feeling far too old for such a car...guess I had grown up....a little....buying a Porsche seemed far more suitable for my age and yet retain my boy racer ways without feeling odd in the car...i was very much feeling out of sync driving a lowered Ford with big wheels etc...it just had to go...

Well having stripped my engine to pieces outside of the car, I have had my cylinders bored out and wet lined/sleeved and I've spent the last 3 weeks cleaning and oiling, and cling filming my engine parts ready for the rebuild as soon as my block and crank, race pistons, rods ect comes back from the machine shop.

ive been packing my whole engine after cleaning and then bubble wrapping before packing into boxes ready for the big house moove🙄 ( wasn't planned and with a baby on the way in the next few weeks also all at the same time , the rebuild is going to get pushed back even further 😩)

slowly slowly catch a monkey as they say😊

Took full advantage of the weather today, with a full tank and roof off it was time for a Sunday drive including a stop at a nice country pub for a bite to eat. Had a great day...

Changed the Rear Shocks from Spax to Bilstein B6 on Saturday,

Having fitted B6 Front inserts a month ago the car's now on a matched set of Mono Upside down units and the not

only did the fronts make the ride and stiffness too crashy but the rears hasve done too...

Obviously the springs job is to control the bump and vehicle motions, but these dampers which control the springs oscillations

also have an effect on the amount of movement and travel speed and the B6's are a lot stiffer than the Spax Krypton Gas (Not RSX)

which can be a benefit, however imagine fitting a set of Bilstein B6s' designed for Sport damping for a 944 on a Fiat 500 ! The Italian bubble hatch would be far too stiff and this is the scenario I now have.

So I need to Lower all the spring rates front & rear to make it a lot more bearable for road use. I'll try front coils first, then smaller Torsion bars...

After much planning last weekend I changed the belts on my 944 S2. I am not a mechanic by trade but with help from youtube videos, Clarkes garage and a mechanic friend who changed the belts on a 944 about 20 years ago we completed the job in just under six hours. I was surprised how easy the whole process was as I had built it up in my mind to be a lot more than to is.

The only unplanned anomaly was we had to remove the radiator to get the breaker bar in with a piece of scaffolding on to loosen the crown bolt to remove the pulley. This added about another hour to to the job.

All in all a good job..

Don't forget to check the torque on that bolt in a few miles (and then again in a few hundred). I use threadlock when I put it all back together as I once had it come loose and lost all oil pressure, luckily off throttle and at low rpm - no lasting damage (not on my current car but a 1984 car which I had at the time).

Broke the driver side door handle [&o]

I don't suppose anybody has one... just a normal (non script) late door handle.
