Today was MOT day, well actually it was 3 weeks early but decided to get it out of the way, I hate MOT's....anyway, flew through with no advisories...Instead of posting a picture of the car this year I've posted a picture of the history/receipt file instead....let's just say it's a little overloaded...not to self, 'must buy another folder or two to fit all these pieces of paper in'.....lol

Fitted a new fuel pump and painted the cover, I found this was an easy way of removing the pump, then all you do is push..

Old blue pump, nice new pump fitted.

(A tip to anyone else doing this job put the clip the other way round so the screw part is at the bottom)

After a year of fault searching she now runs. Next stop MOT after some brake bleeding. [:)]

I took my fuel pump cover off today for painting and pump replacement (not done yet, need a new fuel pipe first) Spent the rest of the day cleaning up the gearbox and started painting it.

What spec/make fuel pump did you fit ?
I used the top one here [link=http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/sis.html?_itemId=null&_nkw=Fuel+Pump+Fuel+Line+0580464069+Bosch+Feed+Unit+60779188+7597693+145070+91538807&_trksid=p2047675.m4100.l9146]http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/sis.html?_itemId=null&_nkw=Fuel+Pump+Fuel+Line+0580464069+Bosch+Feed+Unit+60779188+7597693+145070+91538807&_trksid=p2047675.m4100.l9146[/link]

Its come down in price by a tenner since I bought mine []

Completed rebuilding both rear brake calipers on the red track day car ready for R13 Curborough sprint day this Thursday.

Removed both, stripped ,cleaned & removed paint from all sliding faces( applied by a previous owner)-masked where necessary& sprayed with zinc rich primer.

Cleaned both cylinders -1 has been sticking for ages as no lining left on its pad-caused by knackered dust boot allowing outer end of piston & area of cylinder beyond the oil seal to accumulate crud which I cleaned off with my concave steel scraper ( made from an old file when I worked in the tool room as a graduate apprentice at Renold Chains in 1963/4 followed by Duraglit metal polish.

Rebuilt both using seal kit from Porsche ( £ +18 ea) & re-assembled brakes)

Forgot to re-orientate piston cutout on 2nd one in my haste before pressing piston completely into cylinder-damn &blast but found a way to rotate it correctly by using a small roll of course buffing tape inside the piston & my new outside circlip pliers with 90' tips to get a grip( must get a grip on self!)

New Pagid discs & pads (ECP £28 pads-£38ea discs + VAT) completed the job-handbrake shoes were OK

If I don't cure an idle glitch I may fit a new uprated pump.

Thank's Jason, it's nice to get the MOT sorted each year....I did overhear the tester talking to his boss while the car was on the ramps......he said something like...'I don't know why I bother testing this car, look it's flawless under here' I was happy to hear this especially considering the welding we had to do 2 years ago. Anyway, I can rest easy for another 12 months.... I took the car up to Nottingham Saturday, one of my steam loco rallies...230 miles and the car ran perfectly and sounded gorgeous....:)

Sounds like a new thread to me....Who has the biggest pile........of bills of cause [:D][:D][]

I'm half way through a second box file.

Spent some time today painting some more of the parts I had removed from the underside of the car.

a couple of weeks ago the trigger on my drivers door handle gave up the ghost, that's the second time in my ownership, I guess I open the door too often...:) A trigger kit was ordered from eBay, alas it arrived while I was in Wales so couldn't be fitted until now and so that's what I found myself doing today. It's a tricky little job, a rivet needs driving out as does a roller pin to remove the barrel , the kit other than the trigger also included a new rivet/spring and new seals...nothing complicated involved but putting the handle back on and getting the plastic push on connectors back on their balls is a real pain if not removing all of the gubbins behind the handle. It is possible though and I got there in the end with a second pair of hands from my neighbour.....

So, for the last week or so I've been preparing to install my own VEMS system which I'll comment on in the VEMS thread. But thought I share a picture. I've been installing silicone hosing and adapting the air intake based on what I saw from PSH. I've installed an oil catch tank in the wheel well behind the fuel/air separator. The air filter is fitted in the front of the wheel well. After doing all the cooling hoses and getting bruised and bloody hands, I ended up with a water leak from the turbo cooling pump. Took it off and dismantled it and silicone sealed the gaskets and it solved the problem.

So Finally got it all back together and started it up. A few teething problems to be resolved with the ECU before I hit the road for some live tuning.

Here's the pic...

Drove down to Eastbourne this weekend. 2hrs each way on the back roads from Farnham. Lovely. Car behaved impeccably on the new VEMS management. No more rough idling or clutch dipping in traffic to avoid a harsh off/on throttle response, just silky smooth response and a significant reduction in turbo lag too. Very impressed with VEMS so far...
