yes...more than enough, it only needs to go from where the current filter joins the alloy 90 degree part that's already through the wing. It will then go down towards the front of the car and turn right to sit in front of the radiator. I have measured the space which should take a 5" cylinder, K&N do a nice 5" x 9" filter(longest I could find, could go longer), I would prefer a twin cone but not found one that size yet. A smaller twin cone could be fitted matching the same volume as a single cone so I have a few options....It will require my son's ramp though to get under the car to fit it all properly.

Is there a clear path to the radiator, I wondered if the brake duct and horns would be an obstruction?

I believe so...can't tell for sure until I have the car up on the ramp with bat wing removed, from what I can see the brake ducts are much lower, one horn sit's lower than the other. It wouldn't take much to move it if required but I think there's enough room for the tube to go between brake duct and horns...we shall see...

The horn is very easy to move, there’s a spare mounting thread just round the front of where the horn currently is.

Moved mine round to there to make room for the air filter in the wing.

you've just reminded me that I already have some ducting running to the front of the car from the filter for better 'airfolw' it sits inboard alongside the brake duct....this of course will be redundant when I move the filter to the front of the car...

I do wonder if that's the optimum setup, rather than having the air filter 5 feet further away from the turbo than the standard airbox?

 
The issue is Paul, finding the space required for a bigger filter, I currently have a pretty large K&N cone filter fitted towards the front of the wing and then a duct running from the front apron up to just in front of the filter. It's a good set up but the filter is too small for my engine (it's impossible to fit larger in the wing), it can't get a large enough volume of air into it to compete with the force of the engine's induction, hence why it has twice been half squashed (imploded) due to the suction of the engine. I can get a much larger filter in the apron itself which has clear air space all round and in the direct flow of cool air. Well that's the current plan, when I get it done I'll post details..

ah...yes but the air it draws will be far hotter, yes you can direct air through the wing as per original but the original panel filter was insulated in it's housing and no where near a very hot expansion tank. The heat in a 951 engine bay is pretty extreme, IMHO an open filter there isn't the way to go...been there got the T-shirt..I've had two cone filters fitted under the bonnet, you get a lot more 'punch' thus power when the filter sits outside...

 
IMO that's an issue in slow moving traffic Pete, and you can shield the expansion tank. Duct through the wing and from below and I reckon it would be OK. Hurry up and prove me wrong [:D].

 
A few days ago my passenger visor clip gave up the ghost...brittle plastic syndrome.. well she is 32 years old now...lol So Thursday I made a quick call to Porsche West London and ordered a replacement, well actually they come in sets of two which is fine as I was going to order two anyway. Ordered Thursday, delivered this morning even though West London had to order in for the parts.

I have a couple of pictures to share, first the old parts, as you can see one has literally fallen apart, the other, although still in one piece is brittle as hell, it wouldn't last much longer that's for sure.

And the new parts, I have included the bag with part number in case any one else needs new clips...

I have reused the original screws/washers, the clips are typical Porsche engineering with captive shoulders to hold the washers in place, makes fitting them very easy...

edit: I forgot to say, cost was £7.08 +vat+P&P for the pair..

 
Aah the great feeling of working correctly washers,,,,,

no firing over the screen onto the roof or through the sunroof making your head wet,,,lol,,lol,,,

 
and cheaper than the 25 year old ones for sale on ebay... always a bonus, I cant understand why folks pay over the odds for second hand parts on the bay?

 
Got the old girl out of winter storage finally, and on the drive again (under gazebo while I do some tinkering) if only I had a garage at the house... She started on the button after a few cranks with the DME out, ran like a dream and then I got to drive her home with a big grin on my face....She's joined by a new stable mate this year too.

Now to get started with the belts and brakes service..

 
Pulled the cam tower to replace a leaky gasket, doing the exhaust manifolds too . . . and the new header tank, and the new radiator hoses and . . . Other bits and bobs!

 
Yesterday I refitted the modified door handle (details in other thread) and also fitted a new fan switch. The fans had been taking longer to switch off for a couple of months until a week ago staying on until the fan relay was pulled. I first stripped down the relay as it's original and has been taken apart before. On inspection all was as should be, I gave the contacts a quick clean, refitted the cover and fitted it to the fuse box. No change...fans instantly came on which means either a damaged wire or failed switch. As the switch hasn't been changed for at least 10 years we fitted a new one, all is now working confirming a failed switch. This is the 3rd switch over nearly 20 years, not bad. What is impressive though, is other than the DME relay, all other relays are original......:)

Going to get my original 15 inch Tele dials refurbished tomorrow but struggling to find 215 60 15 tyres to fit should I go up to 220 or reduce the depth any ideas. I used to run Goodyears but cannot find any in stock anywhere. What are you others using out there, sorry cannot run to Pirelli`s
