what did you do to your 944 today

Well done Tony...mine passed today too..clean sheet...must use her more, only 3k miles, mind you that's up 1k from the past two MOT's...must be that moving to the country effect....🙂

After buying it in the autumn last year, finally got out on the road, having received all the paperwork back from DVLA as a Historic Vehicle.

It's a bit agricultural on the road, need to get belts and water pump etc done and the rad fan doesn't seem to work when the temp builds up. Been running with the heater on full just in case........

Done a few subtle bits to it, including matt black bumpers, mirrors and wheels - I'm heading down the anti status symbol route so will be collecting more matt black paint and gaffer tape along the way......

Finished the rear brake calipers and started to assemble the rear suspension assembly for refitting!

Had a few hiccups with the mounts I purchased from rennlist, so they are in the workshop being adjusted.

Stunning Dave! You can do mine next, as long as it's not off the road more than a day!!

Hahahaha :ROFLMAO: you know me too well Stuart - I removed the rear torsion bar and trailing arms in July 2022, it has taken me a whole year to get to the stage they are back on the car.

Got the assembly bolted back on to the chassis now and the parking brake, hubs and stub axles are fitted. Next for the disc brakes, I'm going to paint the bells on the discs with silver brake caliper paint first. Then I might be ready to put it on wheels and give it a clean before I remove the engine!

Had some fun with the rear wheel bearings, the left side went in super easy. I had placed both bearings in the freezer overnight and heated up the trailing arm with a MAP torch for about 6 minutes, until water boiled on contact with the bearing surface. I picked up the bearing and it slipped straight into the arm by hand! (yes I know the circlip is missing in the photo but was fitted shortly afterwards)

No such luck though with the right side, on the second attempt I managed to get the bearing in about 25% of the way and then resorted to using my bearing tool and a 2 foot breaker bar.

Nice new classic line rear brake shields (considerably cheaper than the Porsche ones), think these were from heritage parts centre (the VW people).

Lovely. Must check out those Heritage Parts back plates. I have 1 and a half very good rear back plates on mine, the other half of one has been MIA for years, and it wasn't me that broke a bit off in the 14 years I've had the car. I've used Heritage before for a waterpump to rad hose, the thick to thin one, was only about £20, and CV bolts, always been good! OPC was nearer £80 for the hose...

I recently liberated one of the front two back plates, or what was left of it. It was picked up on a 'shake down' inspection i had done recently, so a schedule of jobs to do is imminent, but priorities will be brakes. De-laminating fog lamp reflector bowls and windscreen wiper alignment are way down the list.......

I've got 2 new ones on the front, got them from OPC when they were about £20. Much dearer now.............

Front backing plates are still cheap - might have to pick up a pair myself even though my existing ones are good

95135108503 - £19.74 (left)

95135108603 - £18.79 (right)

Must have come down in price again, I'm sure they shot up a while back, that's about what I paid for mine.

Took my turbo for the MOT this morning, gave it a good check over beforehand, but it had done zero miles over the last 2 years. Happily it passed with just a mention for a noisy exhaust :). Though it always seems to test 0.71 out of 3.50 for CO: and 69 out of 1200 for HC: . Not sure if those readings are a good or bad indication of how it's running?[/h5]

Maybe the numbers are painted on to the machine...................:ROFLMAO:

Ha ha, maybe at my favourite old MOT garage, where I had taken all my cars and bikes for over 10 years. But a couple of years ago I moved 60 miles away, and this test was at a new garage. On a related note when I was checking the car over, I found the screen washer pump had packed up again. But fortunately a few taps with a long extension bar woke it up.

Bought this used brake pipe flaring tool some time ago, a Sykes Pickavant 270 series with 3/16", 1/4" and 4.75mm dies. Then picked up some cupro nickel brake pipe and some 10mm fittings.

My second attempt at making a flare after first attempt failed (the dies needed a good clean).

And my third attempt at making the right side rear caliper hard line, lots of damn bends to go around the trailing arm! (if I'd known how fiddly this bit would be I might have coughed up the £100+ for the genuine steel lines!). I used some silicone vacuum hose to protect the pipe where it travels under the arm and through the retaining clip (this was real fiddly to squeeze on the pipe! I had also purchased some glue lined heat shrink tubing but it would not have provided enough diameter to secure the pipe in the retaining clip). All the bends on the third attempt were made using a proper pipe bending tool, so no kinking of the pipe.

Is that from an OPC and if so, any one in particular?

I haven't bought from an OPC for years - and that was a Speed Yellow keyring.........

Porsche Exeter - have been buying parts from them for almost 20 years :ROFLMAO:

Great service, they will send items to you by courier or post.

You can register your car with them under the Porsche Classic and get a 10% discount on all parts.

Let them know I sent you [;)]

Today I can now open the drivers door with its handle, no more climbing in from the passengers side for me...🤣

My thanks go to my youngest son for his help and to Ian at 944online who got the replacement trigger to me in just 2 days...not bad coming from the US.

On Sunday 24th I joined the club members at Prescott car club day. I was the only transaxle Porsche there. most were 'new' 992 derivatives , the guy next to me had a 4 week old car with 600 miles on the clock. I got 4 runs up the hill for my £55 and paid a further 15 for an additional run on a dry track, the first 3 were damp.

Quite addictive!

Eddie

Removed the front wing and drivers side sill - loads easier than I had expected - photos had shown they were a bit crusty but not bad but as I'm doing a respray so decided to replace sills first but to my surprise no rust[] just brown dinitrol almost disappointed [:D]

the only slightly rusty area is where sill meets rear quarter but on a scale 1-10 it’s only a 3/4 and of course bottom of front wing

I have new Porsche sills to fit would you clean and paint rear quarter or cut out and get repair panels?

do Porsche sell repair panels?

I don’t believe Porsche sell repair panels for that section and any aftermarket part would need a bit of work to fit to your standards so maybe clean and dress then re-evaluate?

I went to the Steel City Porsche event yesterday at Porsche Centre Sheffield. 10 hour day out via the North Yorks moors on the way there and the Yorkshire Dales and Northumberland on the way back. Got through £130 in fuel, about £20 in food and drink plus £100 and 3 points/a course from a motorway camera on the A1 - oops!
