what did you do to your 944 today

Difficult time for body shops......,the Porsche approved Nottingham body shop that restored both my turbos and bits of my pug are no longer in business I couldn't believe it when I heard.There goes my lifetime warranty?[&o] Hard times out there for lots of people[&o]
 
ORIGINAL: 944Turbo slightly in their defence the cab cills are much more complex than the coupe cills and if it was their first cab they may not have realised, but from the sound of it they may not be around much longer to worry other owners. Nightmare, hope all is resolved soon. tony
Hi Tony, normally you would have a point, and I wanted to get a photo of the double skinned floor that you requested in a post a few months ago but when the outer sills were cut back it was obvious that they were the only parts that needed replacing, the inner sill and sill to floor panel section were fine. Some 5 months ago this really cheered me up as I had hoped to catch the rust early so this was the best result I could have hoped for, equally my estimate had been prepared on a 'worst case scenario' so that I would be able to budget for the maximum spend but hopefully not actually reach it. Sometimes I am so naïve............
 
There should be a thread entitled what did you not manage to do. Today was the day i planned to do the rear wheel bearings, i bought all the tools, breaker bar impact socket bearing pullers but i couldn't get the damn axle nut off. Tried three different methods, even resting the breaker bar on a second axle stand andlowering the car on the jack slowly but to no avail. [:mad:][:mad:]
 
I washed it (overdue) and found a couple of inches of stoneguard and paint had peeled away from the back of the front wheel arch. Some rust and a nice wee water trap :( so i peeled off the loose stuff and doused it in dynax wax until I decide wether or not to tackle it myself. Sometimes I hate having a metallic car as minor body repairs become a right pain. Think i'm going to take out the rust and stoneguard to clean metal. Pray the rot doesnt extend beyond the bottom of the wing then mask at the stoneguard line. Anyone applied stoneguard before? if so how succesful a match can you get texture-wise? Guess it needs doing before the winter but getting a dry day to spray is looking unlikely at the moment.

Know that feeling, although off topic with my daughters Corsa. Euro Car Parts kindly supplied me the wrong discs, which I only found out when the car was in bits (I know, I should have checked!) I didn't have a deep enough socket for her spark plugs so took a trip to Halfrauds to get one and picked up the wrong one, also picked up some socket clippy/rack things and got 3/8 inch not 1/2 inch! All in all a bit of an 'epic fail' today as my son would say [:mad:] Hopefully sort it all tomorrow
 
Rear Wheel bearings & Drivshafts on both side well that was the plan. Had all the tools we would need sorted out last night ready for today. Jacked the car up Wheel off ready to take the hub off. Has the 30mm socket we would need acording to Haynes. Nope not 30.Dug around in my dads tools Not 32 or 34 either. Got the calipers out 36mm the only bit we didn't have. Took more than an hour and 3 stores before we got one. The bearing came out easily enough but the part i had been sent was for a later model and was the single unit. 12pm on a saturday. No one had any in stock locally. Then called GSF with the SKF part numbers and they had 2 of each in stock.But no seals. Rushed down with the old one with us and managed to find new seala aswell from them. Result. Took off the old Shaft and cleand everything up ready to reassemble. Greased everything up and assembled it all. Then came the rain. One side done. we had planned on getting it all done today but looks like we will be out there tomorrow as well.
 
Replaced the belts and associated rollers on a friend's newly-acquired 944 S. The belts were 16 years old! [8|] The smooth roller that nests below the tensioner and only found on 16V engines was a pain to take off/on (and probably the reason why some owners of 16V engines report their engines lack it), but other than that it went as smooth as silk, and surprisingly the timing belt didn't even slip a tooth when I released the tensioner for the first time! [:)]

Hi Pastry, Re. your query about stoneguard. I had the same situation. I used Wurth stoneguard aerosol and the tips I got were to put the can in a fridge to cool it down (on the basis that warm paint flows better) and that the further away you hold the can the more textured the finish you get. I painted from about 2-3 feet away and the finish I achieved was textured but not as much as the original. It will do for now as you don't really notice it that much being so low down, but at some stage I will have to get it done properly by someone with the correct equipment - a Shutz gun and a compressor apparently.
 
thanks for the reply, i'll give it a try and keep saving for a full respray sometime in the future. just need a week of good weather [:D]
 
Came back from 2800 mile round trip visiting, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany (Porsche Museum), and Italy. Car ran fine apart from sunroof broke but after 22 years I was half expecting that... Will post with pics at some point. Edd

Thought I'd replace the blown bulb in the fog light Ha[X(] Another one for, What didn't you do today, it is a great thread Paul. Anyway, it appears that somwhere down the line the housing lugs that the lens screws into are missing on one side, how it all held together without falling out him upstairs knows or maybe not, so now looking for a housing ont tinternet. found one in US postage more than part, nothing in UK, any suggestions please, then I can complete what I nearly did today, or maybe next week! Bulb...................no problem[;)]
 
Drove it too and from work. Again. While the Rover is off the road with an as-yet unidentified fuel issue*, the Porsche is the daily driver [&:] *Before the Rover jokes come flooding in, the fuel system is part of the BMW engine. Ironically, the Rover bits around the engine have been faultless!
 
After not doing much mileage over the summer, it has ramped up again with almost 500 miles this week, and so hit 218,000 yesterday. Followed a Mini Clubman Estate (My first Car) down a twisty part of my run home yesterday...when I approached behind him he then decided not to slow down for any corners...there were a couple where I struggled to keep up! I then spotted the wide wheels and the fact hed had a pair of racing seats and full harnesses in there!

Followed a Mini Clubman Estate (My first Car) down a twisty part of my run home yesterday...when I approached behind him he then decided not to slow down for any corners...there were a couple where I struggled to keep up! I then spotted the wide wheels and the fact hed had a pair of racing seats and full harnesses in there!
Pesky Mini's eh? I did my first auto-solo event a few weeks back. There was this stripped out and modified mini there. Nothing else could come close to its pace. My (girlfriend's) Fiesta didn't stand a chance. To be fair, my lack of skill at these events was costing me at least 4 seconds per run!
