what did you do to your 944 today

ORIGINAL: A9XXC Whats this Glenn - you working on the car!
Don't tell my tame mechanic... he'll have nightmares. Every time I phone him he answers with "what have you broken this time?". []

Now is the time Gents.. I went down to the in-laws last Tuesday eve and took the cover off the car. I reconnected the battery. It fired up no probs. I take the car out of its turshed resting place and check it over. No probs ! The engine was "hunting" on idle but this soon cleared as the temp went up ! Sticking ICV perhaps ? I headed to a petrol staion in Glenammaddy - Put €20 in .. Hardly budged the needle .. FS the price of petrol is scandalous.. Head up the road to Galway being mindful of the law.. If they catch me now with no tax it wont be pretty [:D] Sneak the car on home .. I am just smiling and smiling ... A respectful nod from a young fella in a well souped up Fiesta. A wave from a silver 05 Passat. A scornful grimace from a t**ser in an 11-D BMW 3 series... Ah yes welcome back my sweet.... You know its like being reunited with a long lost girlfriend.... ! All the old memories come flooding back ! Its even better than I remember.....[:D] I left the car to Dave my trusted mechanic .. I am going to replace both wishbones (under supervision) .. The car has the NCT on Sunday as well so we will blank the markerlights and fit the suitably "Bosched" indicator units which have sidelights fitted. I know she is going to fail but its a lottery anyway so I am better to put the car in and get a list.... Keep your fingers crossed lads ![;)]

Took the broken alarm fob into work and resoldered all the dry joints inside. Now it's working! Also did some reverse engineering... the code is programmed in by cutting tracks on the PCB, so it should be easy to modify any fob to work with any car. Here's the chip they use, for anyone interested! http://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/pdf/9250/NSC/MM53200.html

who's a clever dick then :thumb:......back on topic , had my "S" mot today...flew through with on advisories

Found out that the car failed its MoT.... but only because of a split steering rack boot. So that's one major worry sorted! It'll soon be back home where it belongs so I can get those alloys refurbed ready for the summer [:D]

Fitted anti-roll bar strenghthening brackets that Frenchy sent me, thanks again mate. Fairly staight forward to fit if a little footery, not helped by lying on the floor, would be so much easier on a ramp. Will take her for a drive tomorrow to see if difference is noticable on the road, and because she has been neglected since I picked up my Boxster S last week. Alan.

ORIGINAL: JamesO Set the Microsquirt up to control the stock boost valve. Very pleased as the boost curve is now much more wet weather and gearbox friendly, the engine now feels like a large NA engine rather than the power arriving in one big lump.
Nice one James. Do you plan to have your car on the dyno some time in the future? It would be interesting to see your torque curve.
Turns out theres a rolling road very near me so when I get a chance I will. Don't expect big power as I'm only running 0.6 bar or 9 psi in old money, although the compression ratio is quite high.
Booked it in for Sunday afternoon.

Cleaned the inner arches ready for underseal . Cleaned all the bits and crap out from inside ready to paint the interior and the ubderside.Loads of seams to be sealed and and then finnish rebuild of front suspension ready to go to paint soon.

Sealed where the water was getting in around the boot and put the remap chip in, cant tell much, if any, difference, whatever the change is its pretty subtle. It is a bit of a pain changing the chip, not exactly the easiest thing to get in and out, glad it worked as its staying in ! Gave it a wash and discovered a water leak in my garage from the 80 year old piping.

Sorted the dodgy brake pad sensor, generally had a tidy up underneath with some strategicaly placed cavity wax, drilled out a broken stud on the front PU, cleaned the front calipers, started to change the wastegate short pipe and back box. sod crawling about underneath fighting with bolts i will wait until my matey's ramp is free. Cured the blowing fuse when selecting reverse but another fault with the drivers door release not working appeared. Bugger as i thought i had knocked one of the list []

Put on my black CS alloys onto the s2. Will keep them on for a while and let the tyres see some use.

Think it's time for you to start adding some photos again Colin!

No more photo's on here till it's on the road. I am still taking photo's for my own file but.It should be back on the road soon,I was trying for the bbq day at the end of may but I don't think I will make it.But should be ready some time in June.It won't be finnished as there will still be a few wee things to do,but I just want to be able to use it this summer. Then back in the garage over the winter for an interior retrim and maybe a 3lt Turbo(for destroying Loc944's Boxster s at the ring next year)

Who says I'm taking the Boxster? Off to garage to fit 3ltr bottom end and big turbo to 944, might as well as I already have 2.7 head. Just kidding, Alan.

If your going to do the big turbo then you need to use a 16v head.If a jobs worth doing then go and do it to the max.You know what I am like Alan,I never do anything but go to the max.Cleaned more stuff today and fitted a few of the brake lines.

Gave the engine bay a good clean up, cleaned and treated the leather seat inserts and polished the SS exhaust All in between the showers of course

Swapped the coil for a known good one on the S2 in order to chase down an ignition issue, but it made no difference. Took off the ignition module which is now the latest suspect, so if anyone knows of an easy way to check it... [:)]
