what did you do to your 944 today

Thought I would change the belts on the red 924S (I was given the belt set when I bought it off e-bay 2 yrs ago-the seller had done lots to the car but not the belts & didn't know when they had last been replaced). Removed topcover & was pleasantly surprised to find what appear to be recently replaced belts (relatively speaking )with no visible signs of wear,cracks,marks etc & set at the correct tension( cam 90deg-balance 180 deg) so barred engine over 2 revs & checked both belts as far as possible-all ok & replaced the cover. They'll do for the grey one instead.
 
Gave her a present of a 3 month tax disc €270... [:'(] Went to Hartech in Bolton - What a well hidden operation.. Nice fellas ... Got the 2 refurbished suspension wishbones ! 2 year garauntee - Ball joint kit my a**e ! They were £540 but I do get £120 back ... Ordered up air filter/ oil filter 2 sets of pads and wear sensors from Agnews in Belfast... I have the caliper spring plates so its all systems go for the refurb as well ! I got a bonus at work (Wife knows nowt and lets keep it that way) and Ive just blew it..... [;)]
 
Ordered some fabric to make a rear boot blind (I've got a spit seat one so figured I'd do it myself as I've found someone in Sheffield who is confident of making one up). Then I replaced the drivers side check strap (it's been on my list of things to do for about 6 months!). Next I attempted to figure what was going on with the passenger side windscreen washer jet (low pressure) so pulled it off and blasted air through it; seems to work a bit better now. Then I pulled the instrument pod out and disassembled to grease up the speedometer needle as it's a bit sluggish in the cold and only really starts working at about 20! Whilst I was at it I polished the clear cover up on the buffing wheel so it looks like new. Finally I took the back of the drivers seat off to check why the mechanism for pulling the tabs to disengage the ratchet seems to jam on one side. I discovered that the angle of the little tabs that anchor the end of the cable in place were different so it was only disengaging one side. I reset this and reinstalled and it now works a treat even if I rarely use it! The list shrinks month by month but gets longer week by week. [:D]
 
Homsea, I'll get mine made up first as I've got some "unknowns" to deal with first including whether the fabric is right but I'm pretty confident. Will keep you posted though as I figured I wouldn't be the only one! Currently the fabric is about £20 and the work is about £80, still for a brand new one £100 isn't bad. Watch this space as I'll post it up if it works!
 
Today I removed the drivers seat and found that the wires had broken off one of the electric motors that adjust the height. Re-fixed the wires and the motor now works. While the seat was out I gave the carpet a good clean, adjusted the handbrake and polished up the leather cover. Now Ive ordered spark plugs, Oil filter, Oil, Air filter and some brake pads for the front. Thats next weekend sorted.......

Kingsdoken, That is MINT [:D] Luverly Luverly Luverly ! can i ask where those sill trims came from i need some of those, the Pascha leather looks brilliant, i would like to see your car in the metal, nice one [;)]
 
Cheers Frenchy, I'm pleasde with it ...the sill covers are a bargain I got the chrome bits from the states they cost about £9 but they are a bit cheap and nasty...but look good.....I covered the sills in Matte Black vinyl and then added the chrome bit....it looks good I think I'm going to make the chrome bit myself to improve the qulaity ...laser cut it from steel and chrome it then add decals if you want some it is normally as cheap to make 2 sets as one
 
Think that's next doors Rob, they were moving in when Andy and I were there helping with the clutch slave, got a bit crowded in the corner! They were fine about it and seemed nice.
 
Well it wasn't today, but I replaced both hoses to the radiator (suspected leakage due to pink crust), flushed the system through with water and filled it up with fresh coolant (although not as much as I expected as I couldn't find the bolt to drain the block). One of the easier jobs to do! Neil
 
Neil not taking as much water as you expect is a bad sign. They are difficult to bleed fully and one guy on here did just that at Christmas and blew his head gasket. Be very careful bleed and bleed again!
 
Any tips Mike? I assumed that it didn't take on enough water as I hadn't drained the block and there was a couple of litres in there somewhere (my concern was this diluted the new coolant a bit). I've vented the system a couple of times so it seems to be full and I haven't had any signs of air pockets in the system. Thanks, Neil
 
Sounds like you have done ok. It was just the mention of not taking as much coolant as expected that made alarm bells ring! I'd just run it up to working temp carefully, venting the bleed screw regularly and making sure the bottom hose gets hot (ie thermosat open) and keeping the expansion tank topped up.
 
Check the return hose is clear at the top of the radiator. I am finding more cars have a collapsed hose so blow through to make sure it is clear. Can be a pain to get off particularly on a turbo with all the gubbins in the road. Symptoms are crap heater and lots of airlocks with the engine roasting itself and the fans not coming on. Alasdair
 
Thanks both - I've learnt the hard way with overheating having blown the head on my previous car on the day of purchase (I didn't even make it home!) [:(] I didn't pick up your posts before I drove back home yesterday but it ran as expected thankfully; I'll check the bottom and return hoses next time I go out. Cheers, Neil
