what did you do to your 944 today

I forgot to post last month that my little beauty passed the MOT test with no advisories and as a treat I had the rear bearings and rear shocks done, plus a couple of minor other things which I now forget! Also, I re-dyed the rear carpet to a nice deep black and now the boot looks amazing instead of the tawdry faded black/blue ish tint that it used to have. I used the dye that someone recommended from here which you can buy from ebay and it was great.

Simon is that your Grande Punto?  I have an electronic copy of the factory repair and service manual if you want it.
Thanks for the offer mate. As Mike says, that's my neighbours car. My other(well the other half's) car is the fiesta that you can just see part of the rear bumper of in the first pic. It's a heap!

Changed the Lambda sensor, will see if it makes any difference to the MPG and report back. removed the remains of a heat shield from the end of the cat at the engine end, is this likely to cause a problem, it was disintegrating.

Took it out and battered it, despite being an S2 I think it is pretty quick, doesnt feel lacking, would love to try a turbo, anyone on South Manchester/Cheshire want to lend me one :D

The service went well. Other than the 'little' puddle of oil under the car when I took off the oil filter. Started with the airfilter and all came off well and fitted back together with no problems. Then the spark plugs were changed with no problems except that there was some oil in the holes so I think the gasket needs changing. Another time... Then I changed the oil but had some problems getting the filter off and leaked some (A reasonable about) oil on to the drive (Unhappy wifette...) I took the car for a test drive and all worked well....Not bad for a first attempt servicing my own car. I then tackled changing the front brake pads, with the help of 'Clarkes garage'. This job was a lot easier than I expected although very dirty!. All in all a very satisfying day.
ORIGINAL: jmelhuish Today I removed the drivers seat and found that the wires had broken off one of the electric motors that adjust the height. Re-fixed the wires and the motor now works. While the seat was out I gave the carpet a good clean, adjusted the handbrake and polished up the leather cover. Now Ive ordered spark plugs, Oil filter, Oil, Air filter and some brake pads for the front. Thats next weekend sorted.......

Set the Microsquirt up to control the stock boost valve. Very pleased as the boost curve is now much more wet weather and gearbox friendly, the engine now feels like a large NA engine rather than the power arriving in one big lump.

Fixed a couple of leaky hoses, one to the top of the radiator that was running down over the fan switch and one coming from the big hose on the water pump. Started her up and let her run for 15 mins and she's fully continent again. Next stop is to Finish putting the other bits and bobs back on (fan, ps/alt belts, belt covers) and book her in for an MOT. I believe that PCGB members get free MOTs at OPCs so will see how harsh they are to me. I've got lots of time to drop it in somewhere more friendly if I need too though.

Friday: Throughly serviced my S2 and changed the oil pressure sender. Saturday: Drove it to Sheffield for a wedding. And back to London on Sunday. Why do cars drive so much better for some fresh oil and new plugs? Quieter, smoother, more oomph. The old oil was a fraction over 5,000 miles and 10 months old and didn't seem in terribly bad nick when it was drained out. Nect job: re-seal the rear lights. That shouldn't be too hard! Oli.

Nice one James. Do you plan to have your car on the dyno some time in the future? It would be interesting to see your torque curve.

Today I removed the wrapping on exhaust headers after hearing about cracked headers and was relieved to notice mine were still intact - touch wood. I also filled up at another petrol station, still with 98 unleaded, and was pleased to notice that the engine doesn't knock anymore at 1.0 bar of boost and at a usually-considered "too lean" AFR of 12.5! The car flies, it's a real joy! Touch wood again! [:D]

All in one day? Blimey you must be bionic [:D]

Colin, you forgot about pushing the 23 window Samba on to the trailer. Glad to hear you got stuck into your own car after I left. Keep it up, I can't wait to see it painted. Hairyarse, you should see his Bionic Man Outfit, he has to be carefull he doesn't get his cape caught on things or set it on fire when he's welding. Alan.

Was glad I changed the rubber bands holding my wipers on at the weekend as I drove through a deluge on the way to Sheffield today She clicked over onto 230,000 miles as I got home!

Turns out theres a rolling road very near me so when I get a chance I will. Don't expect big power as I'm only running 0.6 bar or 9 psi in old money, although the compression ratio is quite high.

Took the badge panel off and checked the air-filter. All looks pink, clean and lovely so screwed it all back together again. No parts left over. No tools missing.
