what did you do to your 944 today

Fitted reconditioned offside driveshaft (two new cv joints and boots, satin black, looks great!). Changed both driveshaft oil seals on the transaxle and refilled with Swepco 201. The left-hand seal was a bit of a pain, it doesn't have a 'stop' like the other side, so I was worried about knocking it too far in, or at an angle. Went for a nice long drive, noticeably smoother gearchange. Now I think the brakes aren't really up to scratch... might start by changing the fluid... but I can see this is going to spiral into another project! And still the belts, chain, waterpump are looming on the horizon...

Had her serviced on Friday and have been told that the CV joints are completely dry and that the balance belt timing is out. Did the belts last year and made sure timing was spot on and car felt exactly as it always had. Mechanic thinks one of the balance shaft sprockets has been put on upside down so need to have a look tomorrow and find out what's going on. Then will move to the other end of the car and strip, regrease and rebuild the CV joints.

I have posted up some pictures of the new Frontrunner in the 968 section, hopefully picking her up tomorrow http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=697635

Replaced the clear indicators in the front bumper after a stone broke the offside one last week, feels like £37 wasted but I suppose it was cheaper than replacing the fog light unit if it had been a few inches lower, might get some lense covers for them now reality has bitten.

had a look for the fuel leak and a pipe has chaffed so ive repaired that took her out for a good blast and a few slides in the rain first time ive given it some abuse was fun

My car is finished in cream carpet and leather seats (linen) in need of a good clean but today I bit the bullet and decided to change to a black interior so I have started removing seats, carpets etc.

ORIGINAL: simdel1 Yesterday I replaced the the engine mounts. The driver's side is a pig! The car drives much better. The more stuff I do, the more confidence I have in pushing it towards the limit. Wheel refurb and minor body maladies next!
Simon eventually you will have done enough to sell it and get yourself a proper 944 [;)]
[:D] I'm quite happy with the go-kart handling for now, but more power would be nice eventually [;)] Got it washed and waxed the other day. I finally tried out [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/fb.asp?m=690178]that stuff that I used on the Rover the other week. [/link] It did a fantastic job! (the brown patch on the rear edge of the front wheel arch is just mud from a short drive after I washed it...not the dreaded tin worm...)

The keen eyed amongst you might notice that the dreadful "I'm not a Ferrari, but I'll wear my badge in the same place" badges have been removed and destroyed. [:D]

Today I bit the bullet and ordered a set of OEM oversized crank main and rod bearings....ouch! Pete

Removed the electric aerial and CD changer, because tomorrow.......it's off to the bodyshop for new wheelarches, sidesills and a 3/4 repaint ! [:D] (Aerial is being blanked off-HATE wing aerials!!)

Today I stiffened a bit the KW installed yesterday and increased the boost to 1.2 bar. The car flies.

Well done Simon, about time they departed :) How is it since you got her back? What was done, battery tray? Any pics to show us the work?

I havent done anything to my 944 today, but I have spent my spare time trying to track down a sensibly priced classic policy from a decent firm. Im after the elusive classic policy which is: competitively priced, offers agreed value, offers salvage retention, accepts modifications and doesnt charge ridiculous variation fees.

Fitted a new radiator to the grey 924S-what a pig of a job it is-of course you don't get the foam strip for the top of the radiator with the new one ,so had to spread the job over two evenings as had to buy some suitable neoprene strip 1st. In the end ,I ignored the Haynes manual refitting instructions-it's impossible to get the radiator bottom over the 2 rubber supports without dislodging them each time -much easier to fit the bottom 1st & swing the top in under the headlamp operating bar-but before fitting the 2 top locating rubber blocks ,attach the top hoses as you can't get to the jubilee clips easily after it's in the proper position. The bottom of the original rad had gone soggy -I suppose not bad after 26 yrs but only 98k miles-& could have been worse like the water pump or oil cooler leaking.

I got it back on Friday last week. It had some minor work done for the MoT but unfortunately the father-in-law wasn't able to find time between payed work to get the battery tray done. Hopefully that'll be done next time I visit. I didn't take any pics of the engine mount swapping because there's already a very good guide on the forum...but I will upload a pic of the old driver's side mount. It was much worse than I thought!

Ordered new speakers pressed metal number plates clear headlights and indicator lenses a couple of sheets of carbon fiber and my company logos for the Windows Sub and amp have arrived waiting to fit next week and am trying to decide what colour to have the wheels painted and I've got to get it all done by 9am on the 1st

ORIGINAL: markofay Pumped up the tyres, got some new nuts for my foglights, got the tracking fixed and then broke down[>:] Pre brake down the car suddenly seemed to jutter every few seconds the rev counter moved very irraticly and then it just rolled to a stop, I tried to fire it up it would start but then it would instantly die again, left it five mins tried again and still wouldnt start, called the RAC (retired to a pub it convieniently broke down outside of and enjoyed some fishcakes,) RAC arrived an hour later, tried to start it and the old gire fired straight up~no problem and drove back home fautlessly! the bloke seems to reckon it was probably just some crap in the fuel!
Sounds like the DME may be on its way out? Pete
