what did you do to your 944 today

ORIGINAL: Hairyarse
ORIGINAL: simdel1 Drove the 944 to work yesterday with the new airbox and standard air filter. It's a little bit quieter now, but actually seems faster! There's a stretch of road near where I live where I acclerate flat out between roundabouts - I was a whole 10mph faster by the end of the strech than I have been before. I'll be getting one of those washable filters next to see if I can get a bit of extra go. [:)]
That'll be all that lovely, fresh cold air you're now sucking in [:D]
Who'd have thought it, eh? Nice cold air from the front of the car is better than warm engine-bay air[:D]

Wooohooo! My new camera has a Tilt-shift special defect, but you can achieve the same effect in photoshop by doing a graduated blur from the centre outwards and then turning up the colouration. It works best when looking down on a subject/scene

I was just reading a PS tilt shift guide... It turns out that the NS wishbone front bush hadnt failed because of oil contamination. The bolt was that loose that it was about to come out and the movement had broken the bushings. Its a rather worrying thought, but you were probably a couple of weeks, at most, away from the passenger side front wheel coming off! I havent driven it very quickly and the mileage is 231955, so I think that Ive covered less than a fortnights driving distance for you - and the bolt was barely still holding on...

Yes I did Stuart, I also seen it last week being towed along M8 by the AA. Just as well Al knows what he's doing. He say's he's just got to pick up a few parts, then get the big calculator out. Time for another how much thread? just as well you're not down South. See you next weekend Alan.

I don't think I'll bother with a how much thread, people will only get upset!! Yes, the poor thing was carted along the M8 last week. I was in the van with the guy, that's the most times it's ever been overtaken on one journey! Really looking forward to getting it back. So far this is the list of things getting done: One rear wheel bearing - incumbent bearing and carrier mutilated, previous Stevie Wonder job! 2 engine mounts Rebuilt turbo with larger cold side Piston rings - old ones outside service limits (well worth doing it would seem) Big ends - Just cos we were in there, old ones were fine but only £50 for a set Oil pressure sender - old one warped Head and valves cleaned up, new valve stem seals, new guides, seats cut, couple of threads heli-coiled All top end rebuild kit gaskets inc HG plus sump gasket New intercooler - old one shrapnelated! All intake pipework cleaned Bottom end (inside and out!), pipes, hoses, ancilleries and crossmember all degreased and cleaned 55lb injectors There may be more I've forgot.............. Stuart

.............It needs washed, and oil. Alan.

Correct. We are going full synthetic now, chuck in an oil filter too! Fcuk washing it, it will only get dirty again, might need to clear the windows though! [:D] Stuart

Stuart that's nearly as long as one of my lists.Hope you get her back onto full boost soon. Nearly got the interior back in. Bloody wrestling with bits of carpet and trim clips all day.

Spent an hour getting the crush ring out of the crossover pipe where it bolts to the turbo, fitted new seals, spacers and caps to the injectors, picked up my aqua blasted inlet manifold better than new, hopefully refitting everything tomorrow. Got a box full of gaskets, o rings, bolts nuts and washers from OPC along with some new shiny tinware. Came home on a low loader on Tuesday night with the 220 it finally packed in altogether which enabled me to sort the cutting out problem...............DME Relay............long story as i had replaced it with the one that was already in the car with new, but it turns out the previous owner had fitted a spare in the top row which just happens to be the correct pin config but was for "ALARM SYSTEM USA" this convinced me that i had changed it hence the head scratching, checking the fuse box relay details realised the relay that was fitted in G5 was indeed a 26 year old DME relay.........................DOH [:)]

Well it is a cheap repair Jim! At least you know where the DME goes now as well, every day's a school day! [;)] Stuart

Wow! That would have made for an interesting moment! Glad it was found before it went fully I have covered 5,200 miles in the 968 now! (in just over 3 months)

Gave my red turbo a responsible and totally within legal constraints spanking this evening up to Oulton Park, journey was full of chirrups and whooshes, made me smile a few times[:D] When i got to Oulton Park I stuck a new headlight sticker on my new front wing and my S3 race car doesn't look like it's winking anymore! Thanks Rick C for sorting out my decals[:D]

Have tried to prevent/reduce future plate lift on calipers before fitment. Applied copper grease under plates, not sure how effective will be but hopefully better than nothing.

Upgraded to m030 fronts and new rears.

ORIGINAL: Frenchy What ya up to Ed ?
Rear calipers have serious plate lift and as I want (rather than need) to upgrade the front calipers to m030 I decided to buy front and rear calipers new from Exeter, also have new discs front and rear, just waiting to be fitted now. I think this will have to be the last upgrade of the year for me..[:)] Edd
