what did you do to your 944 today

I looked a little more closely at my front calipers, and realised that theyre nearly new and later style, without raised Porsche lettering! [:D] I now have three new style and one original. I was looking to buy 928 Calipers, or maybe Big Red/Blacks, but I think that I will carry on with these and new discs and pads and see how it goes... On a less positive note I noticed that the dashboard is constantly creaking now, with the 968 castor mounts and PU bushes fitted to the front. Ive decided to fit them to the axle mount and trailing arm too, seeing as Ive had to do the fronts. I may chance my arm on a solid transaxle mount too, but I will probably end up with tinnitus!

Picked it up from the detailers 4 days work polishing and then sealed with g-tec[:D]

Car looks amazing Kongsodoken. But you really should put shoes on before you go walking around on your drive.

ORIGINAL: craiginuk Watched it roll backwards down the drive! Luckily managed to catch it in time. Forgot the extra click on the handbrake..
I wasn't so lucky last year! [:(] http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=659100&mpage=1&key=rolled&#659100

I remember the thead - thought of you and how lucky I was. Especially considering our drive slopes into the road..

To Kingsodoken - wow! That looks fantastic. What polish did they use? I recently had a two-day polish completed on my Maserati and the difference was incredible. £500 (ex vat) well spent (if £500 on a car clean can ever be justified when it's dirty just one drive later!). Mine was a Swissvax job.

I discovered that my car has a Bailey air bypass valve fitted. At least itsa recirculating type and not a vent to atmosphere cock alert...

I went to a lot of effort with my plumbing to make room for a re-circulating valve, hated the dump valve. Annoyingly it still makes almost as much noise due to the short intake and lack of AFM but it is just about acceptable. The recirculating Bailey seems to work well, but the Bailey dump to atmosphere was a sticking noisy pile of crap that seemed to need regular doses of wd40 to unsieze it. I enjoyed throwing it in the bin.

I have a 'cock' valve...:), but on a serious note though there's a good reason for it, talk to a good 944 custom mapping expert and you'll learn that the factory position of the recirculating valve is a bad design. You get a blip in your map due the the valve being badly positioned, blip the throttle and when it returns to idle it will first drop below the idle setting and then pick up. This is due to how the air from the recirculating valve reacts with the AFM or aftermarket MAF, etc. iirc the air vents back into the J- boot in such a way as to disrupt the readings from the AFM, etc. Replace with a dump to atmosphere type and problem is solved, plus it sounds cool, well if you can hear it above the waste gate that is as its a tough fight in my car as to which can make the most noise....:) Pete

Dont fret Pete, I realise that all turbocharged cars will need a VTA bypass valve once they reach a certain level of performance. A 220bhp otherwise-standard car wouldnt need one though, Im sure! Have you seen the Youtube clip where an American Impreza was fitted with a noisy VTA valve and a duck call? They revved at every set of lets, backed off and made a massive QUACK! [:D]

Can't say that I have, I must try to find that, sounds like a laugh...:) Pete
