what did you do to your 944 today

Giles, I uploaded a short clip to Photobucket to give you an idea of the cheaper cameras video quality (even with an unsuitable Micro-SD card), but theyve compressed it so much that it appears to be around 5FPS now! :eek:( Simon

Removed the old ultrasoninc control unit from the battery space in the boot as it did not work anyway, at least now the unusual knock from the rear left when I go over bumps has gone, thought it was the rear shock catching. Regarding rhe in car camera a friend of mine runs one in his everyday car and twice it has been used to support his innocence as people either pulled out into his car or did similar stupid things, so well worth it if you live in a busy area. The lighter on later models is only on with the key in first position or ignition on by the way or at least it is in my S2.

Thanks Simon. I downloaded the HD and VGA camera clips from the review link you posted. VGA not great, but the HD was pretty nice. Can you read a number plate from the VGA quality camera? The review suggested that you couldn't... I suppose it depends on the ambient light, distance to target etc.

Difficult to say (although his doesnt really bother me, because for the scenario that I imagined it isnt required). The reason being that Ive used a very old and slow card, so I cant say what the camera will achieve with a newer faster part. You cant read the registration plates of oncoming vehicles at the moment, but that may change. You can clearly read the those on stationary vehicles, as the still in the 'Registry' thread shows. Washed my tool roll! It was absolutely filthy and I coudnt bare it, so I put it in the washing machine. The previous owner obviously thought it was dirty too, because theyd put it in a M&S 'bag for life': so I washed that too! The tools are currently benefitting from a WD40 bath and when theyve been wiped down theyll be put back in the correct sections, the roll rolled back up and put away in the spare wheel well. Minor OCD means that small details are seldom overlooked! [:D] Simon

Connected the battery, for the frist time since its mot, plate lift and service back in may; belts are about 1000 miles old did those last October so no lectures please. Just think of all the cars that sit in a storage field for months on end. Started it unassisted then moved it out of the garage, and gradually built the speed up. A 44,000 mile 944 Turbo is still a fantastic drive even if my sore elbow rubs on the centre consul, in a way it just doesn't in my 996 turbo cab. I was so chuffed I even put a cassete on; yes that's right it still has the original radio casette player in full working order. Pulled the cassette holder on for the handbrake (911 central) then promptly stuck the handbrake lever up my trouser leg as I was getting out.

I enjoy changing gear in my car while relaxing my left arm on the centre consul , the 944T is such a great car to chill out in when travelling long distances and when the times right you floor it and know you made the right decision when choosing such a great car.:) Pete

Ive just wiped my tools down, re-inserted them into the tool roll and rolled it up. It didnt look neat enough though, so I have secured it with a pair of trimmed tie wraps. Whilst I was at it I thought that I might as well roll the sunroof cover up properly and hand it from the hatch catches as intended (after giving it a damned good wipe down with baby wipes). Im now going to wash my hands several times.

Thanks for that-I've been wondering what those loops were for-looking on the Porsche parts list,on some cars the boot blind latches onto them. Finally managed to cut the crank sensor bracket into 3 pieces which allowed me to remove the broken off speed sensor-the other sensors shroud tube within the bracket(I had managed to remove the sensor itself) & finally the last piece of the bracket held on by the steel curled bush through which normally the pivot bolt fits (but which was missing on my engine) and which prevents removal of the bracket unless both sensors & the shroud tube can be removed 1st. Followed Clarkes Garage instructions then,glued a washer to the sensor I did remove,removed the "O" ring from it 1st -makes easy removal, & set the air gap. Fitted new shroud,both sensors & crank sensor (there are 3 sensors on the bracket),plugged them in,replaced heater valve hose back to engine,filled with coolant & bingo-started 1st time & everytime since without any "wiggling".Hardest part was clipping the valve operating cable back on with the spring clip.

Went to OPC Leicester to pick up a few service items, popped in to Mike's (cheers for the cuppa [:)] ) then back up to Elliots to pick up some new indicator stalks and this little baby;

Excuse the crappy photo, great steering wheel though, very comfy [;)] Also replaced the temporary vacuum pipe on the turbo inlet with a permanent affair so now should run with no issues [8D]

Whilst trying to establish a prepeatable brake test figure, I went through my front pads. Boll*cks! That forces my hand somewhat, so I will have to buy new standard discs and pads. On a positive note I applied a small Nurbugring decal to the rear, which I bought during my last trip there. At over a fiver I couldnt see it wasted!

Finally got round to dismantling, cleaning and making the rear hatch catches actually work properly A little treat for the old girl passing the MOT

Hi Andy Good to see you again and thanks for the decal - not fitted it yet , still playing with the 2 x 3Tb hard drives! Will have to do the photo thing soon and by the way, car looks great, solid and original, just how I like them, given the choice. New wheel looks good too. Chers

Washed it, vaccumed it and wrote new code for its ECU to read in wideband AFR's and log it in the tuning software. Happy days!

Disabled fuel cut on overrun which makes for a smoother drive but slightly higher fuel consumption. Used it to transport the cross country bike for 3hrs riding round Swinley forest.

Fitted new rubber gaitor (as split) under gear lever leather one. This has stopped fumes smell with windows open and the gear lever is no longer red hot. Hot tip! Attended sunny Classic Car show at Knebworth! Chatted to some fellow 944/924 owners, always rewarding/interesting.

Fixed the sunroof not opening issue (would only go up a couple of cm) well temporarily anyway but gaffer tape will not permanently replace broken plastic bits. Spent most of the time taking the mechanism in the boot apart and testing only to discover the issue was the tiny micro switch at the front all along - still nice to have some closure on the matter and now just need to get some new parts for the wind deflector - anyone have the below stuff going in the UK (don't fancy paying shipping fees from the US) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320939397641?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Interesting info Martin. I get exhaust fumes in mine with the window down, I didn't think the rubber was split but will be checking it tomorrow! Cheers Andy
