What did you do with your 996 today?

Took it to Sunday Scramble! Thank you, Google, for auto enhancing my snap! :) (although I did reduce its size)

Very nice - great pic!

Having had the sail through the MOT on Friday, my alternator packed up yesterday (Sunday). Got it to Northway's this morning and Ray managed to order and fit a new alternator within about 3 hours from me arriving and in and amongst all other jobs that they had on today. As always, great service from Ray and the gang there. It was the original alternator that came off the car - so 14 years old and just over 51k miles. I can handle that if I get the same life from the new one.

Had the steering wheel re-trimmed by Royal Steering Wheels......excellent workmanship

Nice wheel. Having felt a wheel that had been re-done and thickened recently, very tempted to have mine done and padded out a bit. One of the few reasons I bought a 996 over a 997, was the 997 steering wheel was about as thick as an ear bud, I hated it.

All I did was top down and a run to the shops to get ice creams! :)

Exhaust tips. After reading and replying to a thread in the Cayman section, I took Autosol and some 000 wire wool to my exhaust. Maybe more elbow grease is needed, but I managed to get the black soot off of the bottom of both pipes, but not as much 'inside' the tips. I still cant seem to upload multiple pictures to show before and after, even using Flickr too as suggested in the Tips bit

I'm sure the inside is meant to be black. I think your coating has chipped/peeled rather than being sooted.

B**ger. I was in two minds as to whether it had been, but the right set in the photo, silver patched were coming through, so assumed soot rather than coating. No issue wither way, but thanks for the likelyhood :)

My 997.2 Turbo exhausts were a right state when I bought it a year ago. After many attempts to bring them back to life I finally gave up and had them re-chromed. Unfortunately the re-chroming process didn't manage to fully chrome the insides of the tips. In the end I too a Dremmel to the insides of the pipes and took them back to the bare stainless steel. They look amazing now, although they do need a quick polish with Autosol every couple of weeks.

Well as this is 'Service month' for my car the list is long.... but satisfying[:)]

Small service, new 200cell big bore Topgear cats, new exhaust bolts/brackets/clamps throughout, 4x new O2 sensors, new OEM rear discs, Textar rear pads, Pagid handbrake shoes, new wear sensors, new pad pins/springs/bolts, 2x new Osram Nightbreaker UNLIMITED D2S bulbs, 3x new Bosch wiper blades, new K&N air filter cone cover, headlamp polish and seal, air conditioning service/re-gas/ new drier and anti-bac.

Followed by a couple of coats of Swissvax "best of show", Gliptone leather clean and finishing treatment ( love that smell!!) and a polish then wax of the wheels with a couple of coats of 'Rim wax' to finish.

Well today I finally got around to replacing the oil pressure sender unit on my C4S , I've had an intermittent fluctuating gauge for the last few months now, so after checking the contacts were ok I decided to replace the sender unit , and what a little S#!T it was too , yes it's accessible with a crows foot and an extention from under the car , but it was solid to move and almost stripped the nut trying , but with a little perseverance and a bruised hand it moved. On top of that one of the bolts had sheared when removing the rotten heat sheild that guards the coil packs. I've ordered a new shield and will address this tomorrow evening 👍

Today, sadly nothing other than looking forward to having her back.

She’s still at Hartech, been 10 weeks now!

Ten weeks with Hartech? Wowzers!! What kind of timetable did they offer you?

6 weeks was mentioned when I booked it in.

Although to be fair to them they’ve been cagey about the time frame from the start. Not sure if this is normal or because I’m having the Displacement increased.

Either way with weather like this it would be nice to have it back.

I took my C4S out for a blast (very quickly before it rained , garage queen and all that ;)

this car never fails to impress me , I've driven many cars over the years from various Mercedes , Ferrari 360 , Aston Martin DB9 and so on , but there's something about a 911 that's so solid and so tight to drive , I can't see myself deviating to any other brand or model .

long live the 911.

Today I replaced the “Horse shoe“ dash panel around the centre heater vent do to the old panel being scratched by previous owners and this was letting the interior down as the rest is almost mint.

The panel is Genuine Porsche from a main dealer and cost £50 to replace.

Collected my car from Hartech, met and spoke with Barry in the process. Thank you Barry for your time and advice.

The car has had a complete engine rebuild and conversion to 3.9ltr

Hartech are in Bolton and I live on the South Coast so I am taking the long and scenic route back over the next few days through the Dales, Snowdonia, the Breacon Beacons and the New Forest to reacquaint myself with the car and familiarise myself with this new bigger, broader torque curve she now has.

Changed over the rear light clusters. Three reasons, one protect them from further decay, two repair one that has a persistent condensation issue, 3 update the look.

Before and after....

Nice, like that look :)

Have you kept the originals, in case yo sell and new owner wants to go back to stick?
