Thanks. Unfortunately none of that worked for me as I did see that thread when I was searching for an answer.
it’s not the end of the world though, we can just use the one key as the two memory buttons still work.

Evening all,
So I am a finally a 996 owner - after a 3 year search and much deliberation - found a FSH 90k miles early (Dec97) C2 tip in Slate Grey and took the plunge
However my enthusiasm, 500miles and delight of the past week has, today, suddenly taken a severe shit - I guess a mere 3000 miles in the past 4 years wasn't such a good thing after all as the NSF rad burst this afternoon and then the tensioner + idler pulley busted off whilst limping off...
Initial inspections are a simple split road core and failed/snapped idler mounting bolt and an un-tensioning tensioner...

Did you get the rads sorted?
If not and you need a cheap interim fix, I have some used rads you are welcome to. I recently replaced my rads which were flagged as corroded and leaking at my PPI, but didn't seem to be leaking and are only very slightly corroded, so would be fine as an interim fix.

Also replaced the incorrectly fitted belt pulleys - I wont mention names but an apparently well respected Welsh independent fitted the upper idler pulley (M10 bolt hole) in the lower position so no wonder the lower M8 bolt snapped...!
The same indie also performed a full tiptronic service at the same time last year about 500miles ago and now the transmission keeps slipping at upper rpm and when cold is constantly flashing the D light...
So next job is check the trans fluid level and prepare to change it again no doubt

In preparation for some suspension work I need to do I was getting the car ready today. Decided to remove the rear wheel arch liners as there was quite a layer of dried mud in the areas I could see. Once the liners were off I was very surprised to find a thick layer of dried mud covering the whole area! Wire brushed it all off and was relived to find no rust. Recommend everyone to take a look next time you have your rear wheels off - if nothing else its quite a lot of the countryside you are carrying around.
Also removed one of the heat shields covering the coils packs. It was rotten through and only being held in by one bolt...
Otherwise, all looking good for when my new bits arrive.

Hope you had a good look at the drain exit points (vital on a cab) while you were in there as these also get full of crud and the plastic non flap does not help.
Here you go, this is the best post around on the subject together with photos, water in passenger foot well must be avoided at all cost.

Finally got my Aircon fixed (i know - summer’s over - but the dehumidifier effect is also useful plus it makes the inside of the car smell nicer!). Needed two new condernser rads and a re-gas, pipe was ok. I’d forgotten how loud the front fans are when the A/C is on and they go to high speed!
Love that video, its like an old sound effect for walking on ice or gravel.. They were shot, when I did mine I had jacked the back up and put them under load and the both leaked green fowl smelling alien blood all over the floor of the garage. Knew then it was time for a change. I did consider semi solids but stuck with OEM as they were in stock just down the road.
Took advantage of a sunny Sunday and took the wife for a spin along my favourite local twisty road, the A505 between Baldock and Buntingford. This was also the first trip out since fitting a Sprint Booster, so interested to see what difference it made. Probably not a valid trip during lockdown, but the roads are so busy this time around, it was evident that others are out enjoying themselves so why not us too.
The sun was very low in the sky, which kept my speed in check. Despite everyone else on the road, a most enjoyable trip out and made me realise that I need to get out more. The Sprint Booster worked well, although too sensitive on the race settings for normal roads.
