What did you your 968 today

I have been horrified at the price of Ignition Leads and as mine were getting a bit old (23) i thought its time for another DIY job.

so i did a little digging and a little shopping.

started with these had to get them from the Fatherland

these little bad boys were 36 cents each plus tax

started by stripping all the leads down, the same 3mm threaded ends are used by Mercedes of the same era.

got some of this too, AccuSpark high performance wire and carbon lead.

Strip the ends

trim the webbing off

give them a small shave as 8mm is too big for the ferules.

crimp the new ends on the leads.

they are the same joint as sold for and used by BMW and Volvo for steering joints, and they look exactly the same as the old ones even the markings on the joints

All done

New Pas pump and a refurbished steering shaft put on as well, been a busy two days, also part serviced the MX5 I have acquired

An MX5 eh? My mate Adrian is an MX5 nut. He has just "sorted" a MK1 1800 model for track use (not turbo'd) and, has just put in a sub 8 minute lap of the Nordschliefe [8D]!! He is also quite a good driver [;)][:D]!!

ah this is a 1.8 auto G1, quite rare i believe. got a LSD in it as well, good fun in the wet

stuffed it on ebay see if can make a few quid, for parts for the 968

Replaced the radiator temp switch for the second time in two years, fans stuck on

found some new rear discs on the bay (Pagid) for £60 the pair they got degreased and painted, also found a pair of brand new rear disc stone guards on the bay for £36 they are £63 each from OPC and they had the manufactures label on them, they went out of business in 2009 so get in quick before Porsche run out and become NLA

started the work today, rear stone guards replaced along with the shiny black painted new rear discs. replaced the trailing arm brake lines as they were an advisory 5 years ago on the MOT but not since.

bit of cleaning up and bolt freeing off should be done by the time I go to Brooklands on the 1st Jan

took it out for a little ride to the Brooklands Classic Meet

Nice to see you again Ken.

I had the cracked windscreen changed, and the guy from national windscreens was a Porsche Approved fitter, he told me this damage to the dash was a Numpty fitter with a big knife and had cut the dash and stuck it back down, also all the horrific looking rust has been caused by the Numpty fitter cutting through the paint and galvanising.

He cleaned and treated all the rust with an killer and painted over it with more inhibitor, but I think I will have to get the screen out again in 2017 and have this leaded up and the roof or possibly the front of the car painted.

Joe from National Windscreens was a top man knew exactly what he was doing and had just completed a screen change on a 991 GT3 before my car.

Highly recommended service

I'm fed up with the bonnet slowly coming down in the cold and having to use a broom handle to keep it up, that bonnet catch hurts like a bitch when you get it in the back of the head, so I found some new ones $25 for the pair and OE as well

LCD clock repair kit arrived yesterday. Plastic frame already out. Both my 968s have faulty clocks.

Purchased a Blaupunkt Paris RCR 41 from eBay so that I have the correct period radio. Probably not the done thing for a CS but I should be able to get it wired in for some music on the commute.
