Where did it all go wrong with Porsche!
...when they changed their target core market to be businessmen that just want quiet motorway cruisers.
It is also due to drive by noise restrictions and noise restrictions in built up areas, rules and regulations on this have strangled Porsches ability to make a loud noise "like they used to".
These rules were intoduced by governments we allowed into power (even if we didn't vote for them personally)
Its simply solved by as an individual putting a Tubi exhaust or similar aftremarket peice of kit on.
Nowadays also its no longer good enough for a market leader with a price premium to do a good sportscar it must also be a good GT, or it wouldn't sell enough units.
BMW have proved that with their M series, Audi with its RS4, even the new Ferarri is having to bow to this direction, we'd just sit here and critisise Porsche if they didn't - so they can't win either way.[]
From a personal point of view, 12000 miles in and the sports exhaust on my x51 is much louder than new and has bcome increasingly so in the last couple of thousand miles.

My OPC tells me my car is now built. It will be leaving the factory shortly and should be delivered within the next 10 days. (It's obviously not being driven over then. )
Means I should be driving it next month.
Wow - it's been a helluva long wait - but it's nearly over. [8D] Stand by for further news!
All the best.

Looks superb in white and damn.... I like that steering wheel.
Guess you will be checking the long range forecast for Europe pretty carefully. Guy in the village washed his car in the road the other day and I was trapped for an hour waiting for the puddles to dry!
Perhaps we should put the grey and white together some time.

Dennis is a friend of mine who has never bought a new car. He likes cars and has been very successful in his career, so I am sure he could afford any new motor he wanted. But his intellect and thriftiness tells him that buying low mileage used cars saves loads of dosh and that, of course, is one of the reasons he's so much better off than me! I'm not envious though, because I have experienced the anticipation and thrill of a new car purchase and to me that's one of life's true delights.
The 4am wake ups take me back to Christmases as a youngster "" blimey I've still got a good memory! My own theory is that once I'm in my dotage, polishing up my Zimmer and looking back over my life, I won't ever wish I had worked a bit harder or spent a bit less!
All this is really leading up to the arrival and collection of my new GT2. This is an exciting car and just looking at it is raising the hair on the back of my neck. Tuesday was the appointed day and what a wonderful day it was. I certainly wouldn't swap it for a larger bank balance.
At the moment the euphoria is still overwhelming but once I recover my senses and reasoning, I'll post up my first impressions. In the meantime I hope you like some photos of the day.
Regards,
Clive

Welcome back. Got time for a little review? Well here goes....
GT2 is a very tactile car. You notice it as soon as you sit in. Once located in the hip-hugging seat, you begin to feel part of the car. The steering wheel adjusts to optimum position and the gear stick falls readily to hand,
At first sight the cabin looks familiar to anyone who's owned a 997. It's not that remarkable "" nothing to convince you you are now sitting in the fastest road-going 911 Porsche has ever built "¦"¦.unless, of course, you happen to spot the 225 mph speedo. Another clue is the stiff clutch pedal. However final confirmation that this is something very special comes when you fire it up "" a deep throaty note that forecasts power in abundance and a mass of flat-curve torque. Starting up is often accompanied by a plume of blue smoke from the exhausts as, of course, befits any decent flat 6 mill.
It's now 6 months since I took up tenancy of my GT2 and the verdict is "" I love it!
For starters, it's a proper sports car "" very fast and purposeful. True, it doesn't suffer fools gladly - but thankfully it finally gave in to me! Give it some respect and the payback is a wonderfully rewarding drive. I would say there's very little in the real world that can keep up with it
On the open road, the feed back is complete and comprehensive "" you can just feel what each wheel is doing. The steering is lightish but beautifully weighted and responsive. The Cup tyres are brilliant, although the wide sections do promote a little tram-lining on some surfaces. But this is soon forgotten the first time you bank into a corner and wait for the slide that never, ever comes.
And the brakes "" wow! Porsche have really got their act together with these Level 3 ceramics!
Practicality? "" Well it's low and the splitter is vulnerable, not so much on speed bumps but exiting forecourts can be a problem with the overhang.
Touring? No problem. It stored Judy's entire luggage for the 12 day Interlaken Tour with POCGB last summer "" and that's impressive! Judy likes her creature comforts but remarked on several occasions (unsolicited) how pleasant and comfortable it was to travel in.
Scary? Not a bit of it. Don't believe all that you hear. It's a doddle to drive "" even in the wet it's fine. I recently drove back from Wales in monsoon-like conditions and it drives straight and true even at the legal limit??
A carpet of large hailstones did try it a bit, but I defy any car with 325 section boots to cope in those circumstances.
To sum up "" a brilliant, usable supercar. A masterpiece from Porsche. It just doesn't get any better!! I'm a very lucky guy to be driving one.
Regards,
Clive
PS. A very Merry Christmas.
