YouDrive plus 21st May- Live

I am signed up along with a red turbo for the 930am slot next weekend, got a full track day first though with a GT3RS, a Scud and a Radical all day at the Silverstone GP sircuit on Monday.

Grover - you'd better check your alarm clock settings - my slot starts at 9:00am. You'll miss a third of your session if you turn up at 9:30, and the bacon butties will have gone! D

Insurance caution My policy, with the wife as a named driver, Porsche Insurance (Marsh/Aviva). Wife was to drive our own car on this event. I checked with insurers - "no go", "only the policy holder is insured for 2(?) track days per year". But, I said, this is a 90 minute session, one on one with a qualified professional racing driving instructor in the car with us at all times, it is not us, loose on the track, on our own, racing around - the latter is a track day. The difference in risk for you between this event and a track day is massive. "No", said the insurers. So we're now hiring two of PEC's finest. D

This isn't a trackday....! Its a driver training/advancement day and very different.[:)] I guess the words- professional racing driver wouldn't of helped either [;)] garyw

I've done this event twice now. I agree with Gary, I'd reckon you have more chance of an 'off' on the way there and back. Really no need for insurance. The whole point of this fantastic day is to learn how to handle your car on its limits, not a hire car - it then just becomes a jolly,

Rodney No need for insurance is not the same thing as not having any, I hope all participants are properly insured! Hire cars? When our daily driver is a Cayman S Tip and we've hired a Cayman PDK and a Cayman S PDK, you'll understand that I agree with your sentiment re the whole point of the day! I could have used our car with it counting as one of my 2 trackdays, but, as others have chosen, a smallish fee to use their petrol and rubber sounded good to me. And, finally, I KNOW ITS NOT A TRACK DAY! D

The excess when you drive one of their cars is Ă‚ÂŁ500 which, in the unlikely event of a mishap, is cheaper than the 10% excess should it be classed as a track day (which as Gary points out, it isn't)[;)]

Start time noted dpoynton, will make sure the red and white turbos coming up are there on time, thanks

Weather looking potentially to be a nice weekend this coming Saturday [:)] If you find yourself at this late notice interested in attending, they do have 1 slot available for the 9am session and one for the 13.30 session. For everyone else booked, a reminder to take your driving license and the need to sign the indemnity form (which they will have available on the day.) garyw

The great news is that the Ice Hill is indeed up and running and should be in use for this Saturday [:D] garyw

Gary w well done for co-ordinating the event, I am now home and it was a great experience in my own car, I have managed to get round quite a few times before at the centre through my dealership so was familiar with the layout, but with Rob my instructor, I was able to move up a tiny level better than before IMHO and was getting round the handling circuit pretty nicely as well. Anyway I managed to pass quite a few cars at a good higher average speed as opposed to holding up others, beginning to feel just how stunning and able the car is. My tyres looked nicely scrubbed too, so even after a 50 mile run home you can see they have been working hard this morning on the fast circuit, I even managed my first launch control in my own car (again), not sure if anyone saw that, quite unbelievable really, must have been a great moment for whichever engineer came up with the concept in Porsche engineering to add it to the 997. I maganed not to take any photos or recordings of the event though so if anyone did capture my white turbo in the morning I would appreciate a link to pick the picture up. Hope everyone else enjoyed it too. Where though was Vicky BH, I thought she was part of the event as per the website description/video of the day, never mind I must have missed the small print. Well done again though

David, glad you enjoyed the day and got something from the day. Im gutted I missed you doing a launch but lucky to of been in a Turbo doing just that[&:] There seemed to be plenty of smiles and chatter throughout the day, with people's various experiences. With regards to VBH, she attends the youdrive standard event where you get to listen to her for 30 odd minutes, however on this event you had that time driving with an instructor. Clive in the luminous jacket of power was taking photos, so hopefully he caught you in action. [;)] My thanks to everyone who attended today and supported the event, feedback from attendees at the centre seemed to be excellent with interest in another one of these events or a possible half day. The centre was really pleased with the response and would indeed welcome us back. I'll look at something with a bit of variation in the future and would welcome feedback from anyone who attended today. I had a great experience with Colin as my instructor- although I'm sure he'd agree I'm not the easiest student [;)] and felt I'd learnt some new skills, so certainly worthwhile. Also a great lunch with some great company. Finally my thanks to Clive for coming along for the day and holding the fort whilst I was on the circuit and giving members a warm welcome. Hopefully we can get a nice magazine article from the images. garyw

Gary - thanks once again for putting this day together. Further proof, if it were needed, that my car has far more talent than me. The staff at the Centre are always terrific, so helpful and friendly. Thanks also to the designated photographer who looked very fetching, I thought, in his hi-viz![;)] The only problem is that I feel I need to go back tomorrow and see how much I can remember of the instruction and discover if any improvement is likely to permanent or purely transitory![:(] And yet again the sun shone on the righteous................[:D]

Thanks again Gary for organising this one, had a fantastic time on the circuit and was great to finally put a face to several more names on here [:)] Thanks also to whoever was piloting the red C2(s?) who gave me a run for my money around the handling circuit....showed me that I still have much to learn in order to extract the full potential from my car [:(] Centre and the staff are excellent, I've said it before but we are so lucky to have this facility available to us in the UK. Anyway, thanks again and looking forward to seeing you all again soon. Cheers !

Gary, Thanks for arranging a great day which I thoroughly enjoyed. The main benefit of this day over and above the usual tasters hosted by Porsche is that you get to stay in one car for the entire session. It really allows you to get a feel for the car and make some real improvements to your driving skills. Good to meet you and some other guys from the club. Thanks again. Stuart

Gary, many thanks too, really enjoyed yesterday, the format for me was great as I spent most of the time on the handling circuit, though the trips up and down (sideways) the ice hill were entertaining. I'd love to see the pictures being taken, I took a couple around the centre but any of the cars in action would be great. Thanks again.

Gary, Clive Great day out thanks for organizing and hosting/photography. Nice to meet every one and see a few new faces Great day out and very useful instruction I am with TS, want to come back again today to see how much I remembered,

Good to meet up with everybody yesterday - many for the first time. [:)] Participants came from far and wide (including Edinburgh) proving the far-reaching appeal of Porsche and 997 Register. [;)] Sorry I couldn't publish everyone's photo, but here are few to give you a flavour of the day . Apologies for the delay, but a water tank in the roof decided to spring a leak this morning, so that got my attention - not to mention it's my wedding anniversary today! [8|] Anyway, here you are:-
