992 Coming Shortly

Hi Chris,
My son locked his order on Monday and this morning he has been told his car will be completed to leave the factory on March 28th. So by the time it has been delivered to the dealer etc, yes he is looking at probably the second week of April for collection.

Having been without a Porsche for the last 12 months, we decided that the time has come for us to re join the fold. We had originally been looking for a used 991 GTS and then subsequently a gen 1 991 GT3. However, after a number of disappointments and following a conversation over a few beers last weekend, thanks to the help of Phil Graham and Anthony Harding of the Porsche Centre in Wilmslow, we have been lucky enough to secure an early 992 C2S slot which had been cancelled by another customer. After a phone call from Anthony on Monday, we have this afternoon paid our deposit and spec’d our car as follows:

We have gone for a Dolomite Silver car with the RS Spyder style wheels, sports exhaust and a glass sunroof, as well as a few other bits and pieces. We are over the moon at the prospect of owning our third Porsche and are really looking forward to joining some of the clubs excellent events and 992 Register trips over the coming months.

Looks really good in that colour with those wheels. (BTW - have you ordered it with the steering on the left, or is that just how the Porsche online tool renders the cars???!! [:D])

Hi

Just joined the club after paying the deposit at Porsche West London for my first ever Porsche. Very informative thread and thanks for sharing valuable info.
I have specd my car and welcome any feedback as I still have time to finalise it.

Hi there Santymads,
Welcome to the Porsche Club GB and welcome to your first ever Porsche. Wow that is going to be some car for your first Porsche, when do you hope it will arrive? I hope that it’s a bit quicker than mine. Your spec looks great, it’s the first Carmine red 992 that I have seen, I think that the wheels and glass roof will contrast well with the colour. Given everything else that you have added to the car, have you thought about the Sport Chrono option?

The London region of the club are really friendly and active, they arrange loads of events for the members and if the 992 Register is going to be anything like the 991 Register, I am sure that there will be some great events and trips for you to join too if you are interested.

Welcome to the club, and your first Porsche santymads! You’re going to love it. Nice spec – well done for not picking sports exhaust too (looks better without it IMHO). My increasing experience of new model sports exhausts is starting to prove they’re just not worth it. Stick the mode switch in Sport and the exhaust note changes on a standard exhaust anyway – and it sounds perfectly fantastic.

My 991.2 was in the dealers today so I took the opportunity to take a 992 for a test drive. The cabin is stunning – a real step up in luxury feel. The engine note is quite a bit different to a 991.2 too. Had a 718 Boxster S for a courtesy car. The 718 is without a doubt the most sublime handling experience across the Porsche range, but that engine. Urg, what a terrible, terrible, noise. If I’d not driven a flat 6 I’d probably gloss over it (still wouldn’t especially enjoy it), but once you have you simply can’t ignore the fact it sounds horrible. The silly pops and bangs sound artificial too. That sort of thing sounds great when it’s naturally occurring, but these days every manufacturer seems to contrive the sound, and on some engines it‘s more noticeable than others. Yuk.

I would certainly have the sport exhaust. I have driven 992 without one and it is a lot quieter. I find the sound outside with the sport exhaust is a lot louder than without. Your need to try it with the window open.

I guess the sports exhaust is subjective and depends what you want from the car, I can see both points of view on this. I was lucky enough to drive a 992 4S a couple of weeks ago with a sports exhaust and it seemed to me to be a lot quieter than my previous normally aspirated 991.1 2S with a sports exhaust, although I’m not sure what the standard 992 exhaust sounds like By comparison. In terms of looks, I have seen both styles and think that both exhausts look really good. Ultimately, I would say spec the Car how you want it and just enjoy it. It would be boring if we all liked the same colour, styles and options.

@MD77 Thanks really looking forward to be at events for R20. Tentative delivery date is Sep/Oct due to factory closure in Jul/Aug. I haven't considered Sports Chrono Pack purely because this would be weekend car and would sometimes participate in Race days.
Would you recommend it to be included?

Regards
Santosh

We saw our car for the first time today and are really excited at the prospect of collecting it on Friday, ready for the Bank Holiday weekend.

looks lovely Martin

Hope you all have great weekend in your new cars. Just been told by my OPC, my car has 6 week delay due to me opting for PPF! Looking towards end of June.

Mine has PPF specified and has been held up in the Customisation area for quite a while, but now on it's way at last.
