Porsche engineers have developed a new sports exhaust system for the latest generation of the 911(997), available as an option on new models as of February 2009 in Europe and from April in the U.S. With just a click of a button the system would switch over to a sporting and emotional sound generated in particular whenever the driver prefers a truly dynamic style of motoring. The new sports exhaust system is made of modified stainless-steel main silencers and stands out clearly through its two dual tailpipes in unique design. The heart of the system is the exhaust flap on each main silencer activated by the engine’s electronic control system and switching over to a more sporting sound as soon as the driver activates the sound mode. The system itself is activated by a separate button in the center console varying the sound of the exhaust as a function of engine load, road speed and engine speed. In Europe the base price is 1,610 Euro including taxes. In the U.S. suggested retail price is $2,500. Current 911 owners can have the system retrofitted to their existing models.
Is there an echo in here??

I have a Gen 2 997S on order with OPC Swindon and have specced the PSE - I was told that my build slot will be late in Feb for early April delivery, and that the PSE should be fitted when the car arrives. I was given a verbal promise that if the PSE was late then it would be retrofitted when it becomes available and at the option price. I'll let you know which it turns out to be sometime around April Fool's Day!! All the best, John

ORIGINAL: tscaptain Will make you appreciate it all the more......![;)] Sorry to hear of the delay, Robert. I wonder if they will retrofit PSE for free and at the "option" price on the configurator? Has anybody been made any promises in that respect?
Yup, my OPC will remove my 9 month old exhaust and fit the PSE for the option price in May. I have it in writing

I have to say I'm very impressed with PDK..I couldn't resist launch so did my first one recently. WOW in a word! My oil consumption seems to have reduced now (circa 3.5k miles done now). Cheers, Simon

Thanks for the info, Derek

I couldn't wait that long! Just hilarious[:D] How much oil do you reckon to have used in 3.5K? I've used just under 2Lt in just over 2K miles. Alan

3.5L I think in that time. It's certainly settled down just lately. Cheers, Simon

Think we've been waiting for you to tell us, Derek! Only what's on the website saying retrofitting will be available from April [link=http://www.porsche.com/uk/aboutporsche/pressreleases/pag/?pool=international-de&id=2009-01-26]http://www.porsche.com/uk/aboutporsche/pressreleases/pag/?pool=international-de&id=2009-01-26[/link] Any one know when the first demonstrators with it fitted will arrive?

I've asked my OPC for an update on this very subject only yesterday. Will update once I hear anything. Cheers, Simon

I have now been told that PSE will be available on April build cars. Hence we should be able to sample it in May. I will not order until I have heard it.

I phoned my OPC yesterday to ask when and how much. They were phoning me back later - glad I'm not holding my breath.........Nice photos, I'm surprised you had time today, Adam!

I spoke with Reading PC the other day to get a status/cost for the new PSE. According to Parts, the new exhaust is not likely to arrive in April for new cars and May as a retrofit. Not sure if there are problems but I was told to call back in 1 month to see if there is any change..... However, my new exhaust budget has morphed into a new E92 M3 deposit. Amazing what a few hours of haggling can get you!! Has anybody has heard different? Cheers

Hi everyone, just picked up my new C2S PDK on 27 March and very surprised to find that it was fitted with the PSE which I'd ordered! The dealership were also surprised as they were working on the timescale that Clewsey mentioned above. Personally I quite like the looks of the new PSE, and it adds a lovely bass note to the idle. As the car is new I haven't been able to check it out at the higher end of the rev range, but I do think the new separate switch works well. The rest of the car is great, too! All the best, John

Congratulations John, you may well be the first PSE supplied car that we know of... enjoy your new beastie ;-) While your admiring your new pride and joy, could you check the engine area to see whether or not the PSE has the brown plug that can be disconnected to ensure the PSE in on at all times. Cheers Mark

Yes, congrats and welcome to the ever growing PDK club! As you have a separate switch for the PSE does this mean you don't have Sports Chrono Plus? I spoke to two different OPC's the other day and neither had much clue as to when these would be available for retrofit. Supposedly they will ring with news, which in reality means I will have to keep ringing them to check! Will be interested to hear your opinion on the PSE when you gave give it some more loud pedal too.[8D]

JBM You need to bring the beast to a 997 event now so we can admire the exhaust int he flesh (as well as hear it) Any photo's you can post online?
