Anyone waiting for a GTS Allocation ?

Speaking to a few people with open orders now it seems some dealers get better allocations than others.
Your OPC is never going to advise you to use another dealer so you will only get their opinion. Plus the average sales guy probably wont know what goes on at other dealers.
Problem is the dealers with the higher number of allocations of have a higher number of customers on their books and as a first time Porsche buyer that's not going to help as you'll be in a long queue.
You then end up with 3 options.
Try to find a dealer with very few orders and several allocations (I think we are all looking for this).
Sit where you are, hope for the best and be as friendly as possible with your OPC (my personal tactic) .
Buy from someone flipping (please dont).

I really feel your pain Schuey, but delays on delivery and high demand seems unfortunately to be a sign of our times with supply chain issues and second hand car prices across all brands.
My OPC showed me the lead times across all Porsche models and its not just the high end cars suffering. There's customers walking into dealers with 3-4 months PCP left on their Macan expecting a replacement deal and being told they have 10 months to wait by dealers who are struggling for stock...

MOST of us are in the same boat so sit tight for as long as you can. ;)

Sorry, I don't wish to mention which OPC it is, don't want to cause further problems for myself. I can tell you it's not a Sytner one.

Did you use the same PC you used last year when, on delivery, you required them to take back the car you'd ordered then? If so, maybe this has a bearing on the current situation?

Regards,

Clive

Nevertheless, i dont think the wait is unusual in any way...

As I said earlier, I’m having mood swings as there seems to be no consistency around allocation, but as mentioned earlier by someone some dealers appear to get more than others.

Think I just needed a rant and now I’ll just crawl back in the hole I came out from.

What was the reason for getting the OPC to take your car back? Certain faults?

I’ve never spoken about it publicly on a forum and it wasn’t I who brought up this topic here, but OPC accepted the car was not perfect from factory and handled the situation perfectly. I have no complaints on how the OPC in question handled it. It was a sad time and I don’t really wish to discuss it any further. It wasn‘t OPC fault it was just how the car turned up sadly.

And current car has not been ordered via the same dealer this time.

i see, sadly there are examples of bad builds. I saw a hideous example of ripped seam stitching the other day.

I'm a little intrigued as to why you didnt stick with the original OPC as they would have owed you some form of a favour after the incident

Original dealer was not local and I only got talking to them because I had originally enquired about a used car which had sold. And then one thing led to another and me placing an order with them.

This time it made sense to go local-ish. Plus I wanted a fresh start and no negative vibes if that makes sense.

I continue to follow this thread with considerable interest.

I placed my order / deposit on the day the GTS was released back in June 2021, through one of the five dealers that are owned / run by Porsche Retail Group - which is wholly owned by Porsche Cars UK, in turn wholly owned by Porsche Germany. My first porsche.

You'd think maybe, being 100% owned by Porsche, my dealer would benefit from a greater allocation than third party dealers? Well, they phoned me in late August, to say that they had received an allocation of a total of two 911 GTS for the remainder of 2021, and would I like one. Yes please! I asked how many GTS orders they'd taken, and at that stage, it was around 35. I asked them why the'd chosen my order above others. They told me there were two factors. First, the allocation comprised one coupe, zero targa, one cab. The orders on their books comprised around 15+ coupes, 15+ targas, only one cab. So, I got lucky, as no-one else (at that stage) had ordered a GTS cab through this dealer. They said the second factor was loosely based on first-come-first-served - I have no way of knowing whether other factors may come into play.

How's it going? My initial schedule was a build slot mid October, delivery late November / early December. Build slot slipped to mid-November, and 'Custom Tailoring' took it into mid-December. I understand that my custom tailoring was greater than average, so this phase took longer than usual.

The car is currently in Sheerness, undergoing Pre-Delivery Inspection, and I'm told there have been some delays. I have seen press reports of dock strikes by GB Terminal workers are impacting supply of VW Group vehicles (including Porsche).

Latest schedule is delivery to my dealer Tuesday 18 Jan. Thereafter paint protection etc, so expecting delivery end of Jan. Am sure it will be worth the wait, and although delays can be frustrating, am sure patience pays off in the end.

Am looking forward to following the thread as and when you get to drive your GTS.

Try buying a new Rolex professional watch from an AD. Then you will feel fantastic about 911 availability and queue process! Comparatively at least. :)
