Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: rob.kellock At least on a track day you don't have to look out for sheep hiding around corners! In some ways it was far more enjoyable - the views were better too - but it is a different experience. At least on a track day there should be nothing coming the other way and no speed cameras to worry about. I agree that red Spyders look good - the seat belts, door pulls and brake calipers all match the paint!
Good points. Hey Rob, remember that picture of the red Spyder on snow, well, i've found some accompanying footage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8RnKAI0ulo

Time is getting close for writing to Santa[;)] Did you guys know you can get Spyder Clothing?[&:] See:- http://www.surfdome.com/spyder_fleeces_-_spyder_constant_fleece_-_red-94571

Oh us Spyder boys know all about the special clothing. Me, daro911 and flat6 can secretly be found at weekends in our work outfits:

[:D] If Porsche had got the Spyder into the film as Spiderman's car, they could've said the roof's shape was web-like. They'd have sold loads more, with people seeing the roof as a must have for Spiderman fans[:D] I'm waiting to see your Spyder vinyl wrapped in colours of Spiderman's suit[:D]

I'm too busy watching all those YouTube videos that link from the one you posted, some great stuff from 1970s Le Mans!

Calling hot chairs John I think we have found you one cracking car and if the chairs aren't factory heated you can get an after market conversion done Check this fresh low mileage sky high spec example out http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/porsche/boxster-987-05-current/porsche-boxster-987-gen-ii-spyder-pdk-2010/864318

Thanks guys - yes the car you found Daro is great spec but Silver - See my post 91 list our requirements and the JLo seats are a must have. I have included photo of our current Spyder. Afraid I wont be donning the Spyderman suit and climbing any walls since our Spyder is the Heavyweight 986 version more suited to Pie Eating and perhaps a Desperate Dan outfit for the driver[&o]

Hi John Your car at PC Notts has dropped in price again, to £36,496. It'll have passed the 'x' months threshold where the dealer wants to given it a push to free up some cash flow. It doesn't reflect negatively on the car. You should tell your Mrs that the Alcantara on the buckets doesn't get as cold as leather. So, you have some options now. Silver paint with hot chairs or red paint with Alcantara insulation [:D] Spyders with a sticker price of £36.5K-ish at an OPC should shift fairly quickly. Do you stick or twist?[;)]

2405 hits - what have you started with this thread daro911? If I was a betting man, I would wager that the silver car is from Wilmslow OPC - the spec is too unusual with silver, comfy seats, ceramic brakes, satnav and an ultra low mileage as it was sat in their showroom for well over a year! It started out at almost £60k.

ORIGINAL: rob.kellock What brilliant pictures. Chap at the experience centre asked us to keep our hands off theirs as it was insured for £1.5 million!
Rob PEC £1.5m car isn't a Speedster as above it's a pucker 550 Spyder as below [:D]

Sorry to digress but for those who were admiring the old classics, I stumbled across this. Something in there for everyone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YssFS12jVUU

Rob you know the pulling power of Spyders [:D] Without getting my calculator out that Silver car must have been way over £60k as my spec car ran out at just under £58k incl VTS but I don't have the ceramics, metallic paint, carbon interior, pdk, cruise control[&o]

You must be right, the price was presumably re-visited along the way at various stages. Enjoyed the video flat6, keep em coming!

John - Before I settled on a 981 the spyder was first on list. I know that the buckets might be more "right" but bloody hell my good lady thought she had fallen into a well! Once in, it was a major event extracating her from said vehicle and at one time crane hire was an option and tight skirts however interesting are certainly off the dress code. She is far from large. Might be worth a couple of dozen in and outs with other half (of the car) as it could prevent ear ache in the future!!.

Interesting post. From my perspective, the 981 is really lovely but it is still ultimately a bit soft compared to the Spyder. The controversial part of the Spyder has to be the roof, not the seats. I was worried that my Mrs would not like the buckets as she used to like reclining her seat on long journeys and having a snooze. In fact she loves the buckets and finds them really comfortable despite the fixed back. The roof however frustrates her even more than me as it is just so noisy on the Motorway. Having spent time in the 981 at the PEC a couple of weeks ago, I would say that it is better than the Spyder in almost all possible areas apart from, crucially, inspiring a bit of passion and some unidentifiable raw seat of the pants feedback when pressing on. As a daily driver, the 981 walks it but as a weekend car, I'm not ready to swap just yet.

It's great what you stumble across on youtube when looking for something else. It's baffling that Porsche puts such effort into great adverts but feels they'll only benefit from making them for the US[&:] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eiRNl04dsM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZIHhPcH5jY daro911, see if you can spot the 89 Speedster in the 1st of the 2 above[;)]

Spotted cool ad indeed very nice find flat6[;)]

Certainly the Spyder is a great drive Rob, I had 2 long test drives about a month apart and loved them. To be fair the roof up and down was not really a problem in my book, it was indeed the constant wind noise when on long motorway drives particularly as the way our climate is going, sun and dry weather is likely to be few and far between. The 981 "S" is just a beautiful motor now and more than meets my limited driving ability.

Nail on head! 981 far exceeds my limited ability too - it was amazing at the PEC, on the low friction circuit with all the electronics on, it completely "protected" itself, by contrast, on the handling circuit the PDK car I drove would probably leave me trailing behind in my Spyder if that makes sense, it was a delight. At least with the Spyder's roof I reduce the risk of speeding points on the motorway and get a good mpg, I suspect that with the coupe like smoothness of a 981 with the roof up I would probably commit greater indiscretions!
