Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

I don't get it, buy a GTS 4.0, if I wanted comfort seats I would be in a 4.0 GTS no contest. while there seem to be a record number of 718 Spyders on the market most are dire speced for some reason, no wonder the owners are selling up lol. 19 718's for sale and yet only 2 cars you would actually want to own ! Strange how 1st owners spec comforts and 2nd hand markets that option is a killer. To sell a 718 you need imo these 3 big items, and nice to have reverse camera. most other options are fluff but miss these 3 and it does put people off big time.

1: buckets

2: LED's

3: leather

Thing is a 4.0 GTS Boxster is rare as hens teeth !!!

I always get happy when a 981 Spyder (especially with buckets) turns up for under £70k. When I'm ready, this will be my type of car. Here's hoping they're still trading for around that price in 1-2 years..

Incredible really you could have had another 4 years of fun and still retained the full 2018 value today despite the drastic changes the world has and is going through

Lovely to see you this morning

Rob. Great turnout of Boxsters.
Great to see you guys too

Looks like the markets have stalled bigtime never seen so many 718 Spyders & GT4's for sale as there are right now on Autotrader alone[&:]

2023 could be a buyers market for the lucky few willing to pull the trigger on a Porsche

Let's hope the used market goes to at least the list price of what a car was new for those who are not privileged enough to get new at list. [;)]

List price would be great as Porsche keep upping the RRP on all models lol would love to get todays list price back for mine, my cars £90k list now and it's quite basic really regarding the BIG options costs, ie no PDK, no PCCB, no PTS. A 718 Spyder in Blue with PCCB and PDK is £100k now with leather and buckets. I would sell my car below list if there are any taker :) I think you can already buy cars below list and trade prices are £6/£10k below list. OPC prices are £10k above list still I guess for some models. thing is cars do sell, 90% market of Spyder are crap spec and comforts which hang about. If you want just leather , LEDS and buckets and not have that bad for resale red leather there are just 3 cars from the 18 for sale. GT4 yes A LOT of cars 60+ but prices not falling as fast as expected.

987.2 is always the keeper.
I think that will be the case with this example for this seller :ROFLMAO:

Wrong Chairs

Wrong Gears

Wrong Wheels

Wrong Price

In this thread the 'keeper' often seems to be the 987.2. Makes me wonder if my 'dream spyder' really is the 981 or whether it should be the 987.2. (For the record, I've not driven either - but I've owned common models of the 981 and 987.2).

I'm sure this has been debated to the bones already but I am curious why some of you feel so strongly for the 987.2.

Perhaps a more pertinent question is, is it worth having a 987.2 Spyder if I already have a manual 987.2S (which I would be keeping)?

If you have driven both you will know why already I would say and you own the 987.2 :) and have kept it.

And no seems no point owning a 987.2 Boxster and a 987.2 Sypder imo.

reason I keep mine is they are an honest car to drive without going too far into classics for me. (which are too slow for me)

So, no EPS is the big one, imo a better engine in the 3.4 dfi, it's a great unit and enough power for the Uk, the 3.8 is detuned and is a great unit for a tuner, but oem was not great at all and the 718 is a better car than the 981 imho after owning all 3 the 981 comes 3rd, does not make it a bad car at all it just comes last out of the 3 cars for the engine and EPS FOR ME. As a long term keeper EPS is a no no for me, Some people love the EPS and that's great news for those owners, it's always personal, If you are not into a more honest drive and like a life stye car the 981 prob wins over the 3. I know my other half liked the 981 Spyder the best.

So picking out of the 3 is very personal, if you ever want to track a car the 718 wins by miles and for Euro trips the 718 wins by miles. For Sunday afternoon tea and scone trips with the other half in the UK the 981 wins, and for B roads Sunday drives the 987 wins. :) the 718 also equal winner for Sunday tea but if that's your bag no need to spend £30k more to do that to get in one.

That's some real food for thought, especially with regard to the 3.8 engine being detuned - I didn't know that. The EPS on the 981S was a real let-down, so I take your word that the EPS lifted from the 991 Turbo in the 981 is still not ideal.

You're making a strong argument (for me) to look at the 718 - something I had not considered doing before due to the inflated prices. Looks like they're coming down which is reassuring! The occasional track day and many Europe trips is what is planned for the Spyder to come! And the 987.2S isn't going anywhere (despite it leaving me stranded by the side of the road on Saturday). As you say, I can't think of a better car for UK roads than the 987.2 (even if it's not the Spyder).

To be frank, the main pro on my end for the 981 is the sound. I imagine that, by now, there are some good options for the 718 in that department.

Thanks for the response!
