Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: daro911

ORIGINAL: spyderwhite i think you will find a lot of peoples 3 year pcps are coming to an end hence the rise in early spyders
Good points. So this year could turn out to be the year of highest used Spyder supply since production ceased. May be the year for people to grab a bargain before supply dries up again. The market may not stabilise for at least another year then?
The market won't stabilise for another 3 years as some of the pcp's would have been for 4 years and some would not have been taken out until 2011 From 2016 on I think most Spyders would have found homes by people looking to them as (indefinite) keepers unless of course Porsche throw the 981 Spyder spanner into the works even if only as pre released early testing mules [8D]
So there's a lot more life in this thread then [;)]

over two thirds of all spyders were 2010 registered so you may see an influx of early cars over the next year but all the late build good spec ones tend to be keepers or are sold very quickly

ORIGINAL: Andy Fagan After having a ride in Cecils Spyder on Saturday I was staggered how much better it was than my 987 2.7. Engine so much crisper with so much more power and the pick up was exceptional along with the brakes and turn in etc. I could feel all of this from the passenger side and at the time I thought I would love one of these if I could afford it, but then the reality of it made me think it would not be as practical as my Boxster for general use. I think they are the best looking car in the Porsche stable with the roof off, but with it on changes it to the other extreme. I know I'll probably get "flamed" on this string but it's just my opinion [8|]
Andy Fagan takes a test drive in a Spyder and is getting tempted[;)] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmP41--ptGM&feature=youtube_gdata_player

On that basis looks like I'm stuck with my old wrong spec early 2010 dog with fleas forever more or rather until 981 Spyder time [:D]

Doing a wee troll of the car sites and it looks like a total off 13 cars are up for sale 13 to many i hear us owners all say [:(]. And not a red one in sight [;)] Private and Independents 4 White 1 Silver 3 Black and range from £33K- £39K all various spec and mileage most 2010/11 OPC 4 White 1 Black 1 Silver and range from £36 .5 for a 2009 to £42 K Again why would a private buyer sell his lower mileage 1 year younger better spec car for £3k less than an opc even adding in a 1 year warranty . I can understand people who may have leased the car wanting out after the period is up . I personally have never leased a car always bought cash outright rightly or wrongly . I did not buy the car to make money not that naive just wanted a car a wee bit different and would be more desirable come resale time .. well summer has arrived in Glasgow so time to go out and enjoy [;)]

very difficult to sell a post £30k privately unless it is on the money and the buyer doesnt need finance.my caymanS was up for sale months at a good price but eventually traded and the porsche centre sold fairly quickly with a £5k premium

Is that right as regards finance? I bought my 911 privately with finance but that was back in 2005. Just used a specialist broker, ultimately Lombard wrote the cheque and the only requirement was that they sent someone out to check that the vehicle physically existed! The same specialist still advertises and trades although he does supply finance for dealer supplied vehicles too.

its not just finance which is harder to find than in 2005 there are less private buyers of expensive cars and more feel safer buyer from an opc.also as its much harder to sell ones car privately its easier to trade in.i traded upto a spyder and got a price i was looking for privately on my cayman and a £10k discount on the spyder.and when i traded my 986s in early 2009 for a new caymanS although i lost a few grand over a private sale on the boxster i saved £9k on a new caymanS gen1.and no finance deals to sweeten although if i had no trade in i think i may have got the spyder a bit cheaper

[:D] Genuine unofficial merchandise John! spyderwhite, I suppose like many things in life, it's all about supply and demand - I have just received a text from my OPC this morning asking if I would sell them my Boxster because of recent sales success. I was slightly cynical about this but I have just checked their website and apart from their two 981 demonstrators, they don't have a single Boxster available for sale, let alone a Spyder!

It's interesting to hear about how different people approach buying cars - what they look for, how they fund it, how to try to avoid losing too much money on the car you're offloading as well as what you're buying, what makes the best buy etc. etc. Will be food for thought for readers purchasing any Porsche even if we don't all agree on all the points. We are providing a service here[;)] Thanks for the market status update Brian. You'll be onto a winner with red, well, joint winner with white[;)] Just don't forget to talk to me about seats before you cash in[;)]

Surely the above quote should read:- Thanks for the market status update Brian. You'll be onto a winner with red, well, joint winner with John[;)]

Colour coded option and they look like they are the lightweight helmets - [:D][:D][:D] Welcome back and you should be back on the same page as the other Spydermen in no time at all [;)]

I wish you did too! [:D]
If he did I would definitely buy my 981 Spyder from him [:D] Talking of which Spydermen run this theory up your flag pole and see if it flys Now Porsche know the max number of Spyders they could sell out the box worldwide, but for this exercise my suggestion would be "981", and like the last Speedster they should be sold on a first come first served basis so no market has to have more cars than wanted I think as a marketing exercise and with high profit margins to please the bean counters an "Official Limited Edition" production run would be a great success second time around even if the list price rises by 15% instead of previous 10% due to the smaller production run from day one Bearing in mind much of the major R & D expenses are already in place i.e. 981 sports chassis and suspension set up, roof design as per 987 Spyder maybe tweaked a little, new rear lid as per 987 Spyder and to aid weight saving over standard 981 the front wings and if possible the rears too in aliminuim should do along with another bespoke super light alloy wheel Porsche could also do a Speedster 3 and kit the car as standard with the popular options most people wanted on the 987 Spyder which if left to me would be as follows:- Standard Spec Minimum 10bhp but would be happier with 20bhp over Cayman PSE Sports Chrono Manual or PDK but same list price [;)] Sports Steering Wheel with paddles At least one bespoke exclusive Spyder colour Anyone else like to help chip in [8D]

limited slip diff. bucket seats. Personally, I think a Boxster R is more likely and sooner rather than later - choose the right options and you can build your own now, a quick ECU tweak and the extra BHP is available with no additional engineering costs to Porsche.

You've gone off piste [:D][:D] 981 R or GTS very nice but I am building / designing another more commercially viable and collectable Gen 2 SPYDER [;)]

You have a strong point Daro. After designing our Spyder from scratch they have the blueprint to do it again fairly easily. I'd pretty much maintained the view that they're unlikely to do it again, but with little design work to do, the market now woken up to the 987 Spyder and strictly limited numbers, they may well see a case for it.
