Does this filter never wear out and need replacing or am I misunderstanding how these things work and last [&o] Any insurance issues as I have just completed a form saying my car is "unmodified" which it currently is of course Bit of a debate going on here about filters http://www.planet-9.com/987-cayman-boxster-modifications/53289-replace-evoms-v-flow-air-filter.htmlORIGINAL: MrDemon no down sides better sound maybe a gain in bhp I have 3 confirmed orders if I get 4 they will do free UK shipping. so just duty and vat to pay atm they are $325 and free shipping they are £350 in the UK and none in stock.

The 987 uses a completely different design of air filter and air box to the earlier 986. The filter is approximatley 40 % larger in terms of media area as a result I beleive. As has been posted above , the air flow depends on the media type and its area. Typically the oem filter is a thicker material with much finer pores , as a result it reduces intake noise and offers a much higher rate of filtration. Its worth noting that filtration is not about what is stopped but how much is let past. Two filters can each filter to a similar particle size but neither will be 100 % efficient. If you look at EVOMS , BMC, K&N they all use a much smaller media area than standard (shallower pleats) and yet achieve a lower pressure drop and more intake noise. The only way this can be achieved is by a lower filtration level. Simple test, can you see daylight through a K&N from the inside versus the standard.....YES. As the filter starts to build up a layer of dirt , it actually becomes more efficient as the dirt in itself acts as a filter , this is however at the expense of pressure drop and hence flow. The way to overcome this loss is to use a large media area so the dirt layer is more widely spread. Fit a smaller media area filter and the gains are there , but short lived , thats why you need to re oil them more frequently than replacing a standard dry filter. In terms of performance , the resistance a filter gives to air flow rises with the airflow volume. Since the car only needs more air as the rpms rise , the gains are purely at full throttle and max rpm. As the peak power is below max rpm , the effective gain in terms of real world performance is marginal. Granted there will be more air flow when the car is dynod , but this assumes the inlet pressure drop across the filter relies on atmospheric pressure alone. In reality , once the car is moving there is a forced induction effect that reduces the relative pressure drop across the filter , therefore reducing the effective gain of the performance filter over the standard. Think of it in a similar way to having a cleaner air filter. Its also true that initial throttle response is sharper with a free flow filter , but if you look at the figures for [link=http://www.planet-9.com/autolink.php?id=2&forumid=7&script=showthread]sport chrono[/link] manual cars versus those without , (which achieve a sharper throttle response by ECU remap) there is no gain in performance in terms of 0-60 times. The [link=http://www.planet-9.com/autolink.php?id=78&forumid=7&script=showthread]PDK[/link] cars are a different ball game in terms of [link=http://www.planet-9.com/autolink.php?id=2&forumid=7&script=showthread]sport chrono[/link] as the gear change time and torque levels are adjusted. I fitted a BMC to my own car and noted that there is more induction noise, almost to the point where the inlet drone becomes a significant background noise. Personally I prefer to hear the rasp of the exhaust over an intake drone, these are not honda VTEC engines where the intake note is sweet. Added to the risks of MAF contamination , there is also the issue of more frequent changes and possibility of damage to the filter from repeated installation into the tight airbox enclosure. The flat 6 engne breathes an oil mist into the inlet (ask anyone thats removed an inlet [link=http://www.planet-9.com/autolink.php?id=8&forumid=7&script=showthread]plenum[/link] - even with a motorsport AOS) , add more fine dust particles from lower filtration and the valves , seats and head will soon start to build up deposits. My advice would be to replace the standard filter more regularly on a 987 , its only worth fitting something different on the 986. I very much doubt the additional air flow a K&N gives is significant compared to the restriction of existing valves and inlet manifolds on modified cars, unless its an X51 unit or Turbo thats been installed. Dyno runs on my own car with a modified ECU and bigger TB didnt suggest a significant gain if any. Spend your 400 USD on a modiifed exhaust , the sound is better , its a real gain and without risk of longevity to anything other than your wallet , as you will drive the car more to enjoy the noise and use more fuel.

To be honest, that was my first thought too. Or maybe even a 997 GT3 RS style chequered logo instead?ORIGINAL: homerdog They look great, but I think you should go the whole hog and get the stickers done too!
Traditional style Porsche stripe in the Weiss Gold should look really cool with the matching alloysORIGINAL: flat6 This is the photshop that people have etched in their memories from pages gone by[]
