Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: Siy So - Had my wheels / rear badge painted in gold a few weeks ago - and now looking at the air intake surrounds... I also am tempted to do the wing mirrors - but am not brave enough to do that permanently, and would like to just get the mirrors wrapped. Anyone know if you can get wrap in the correct colour codes, as I spoke to one or two, but they only had an off the shelf gold colour - which wouldn't look right. Cheers simon
I think the only way to do the wing mirrors is to paint them as the rest of the car has been done but how about painting them like this Porsche

hmmm - interesting...!!! Think you are right - gonna book it in and just get the mirrors painted too.....Will have it ready to show at wings and wheels on Sunday.

There's a tequipment option for mirrors with the bottom half in silver. You could use that theme but with gold instead? Mike Trotter from the Cumbrian half of R18 has them on his 987S.

That is what I meant with the picture attached copy this style of business not quite as extreme as painting the entire mirror

PS: Beeen to the R6 meeting tonight and the Welsh Wales road I drive down to get there kept a smile on my face all the way in the "R" :)

Why not wrap the mirror and then paint it, therefore removable?

Decision made... Painting the lower arm of the mirror in WeissGold as per above suggestions - thanks for the input. Should be going in tomorrow and back with me for Sunday - now just hoping for good weather at Wings & Wheels. Am going to be doing some runs along the runway, so obviously need the roof of as will be doing more than 125mph - so sunshine would be nice! Funnily enough - since buying the Spyder - the roof has never been on!

That's a very nice quick turnaround by your paint shop guys and I think that lower arm only is really going to "pop" as they say over in the USA[:D] Hope you get us some good footage of the runs please[;)] No pressure [:D] I never had my roof up until flat6 suggested after 2 years in my boot it may be in need of some stretching back into shape fortunately it went on or is it up dead easily fitted like a glove and was wrinkle free. I ran the car for a couple of novelty weeks in that mode before taking the roof back off and off it has been ever since On around Christmas day off again in mid January [8D]

Thanks Daro - yes I will definitely use the car hroughout winter - as think they are better with a regular drive than sitting in the garage unused - so the roof will e making an appearnce towards teh end of the year - and it is a good idea to keep it in shape for a while. Paintshop yes - they were very good and are gonna throw some people at it to get it done in time for me..... Am looking forward to the results - I am not one for modding my cars - my last , the F430 Spider was absolutely original - but hopefully, these little touches I have made won't make me look like a 'Saxo' type of dirver! Hopefully they will remain subtle enough - will know in a couple of days!!!

Thanks -hope so! (And apologies for my atrocious spelling above! I can spell - just can't type! Must take time to check before submitting!!!)

Andy it would be really good if you could test your "R" back to back with one of the local Spydermen and see how similar or different the driving experience proves to be in the real world from your view http://www.excellence-mag.com/issues/196/articles/open-and-shut-case-track-test#.UhXp9tKsiSo

An interesting video, but doesn't make much sense if the cars are on the same tyres. You can only assume there was a difference in the geo's? Maybe the spring rates are different making the Spyder slightly more compliant? With the added rigidity and slightly lower weight you would expect the Cayman R to perhaps be the slightly better handling car at the margin? Both great cars etc....but don't really see how it is an open and shut case? I can imagine an average driver would not be able to notice too much difference, other than one is breezier than the other. [:D]
