Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

yes - I had to get into the engine this week to unplug the PSE valve thing - what a faff to get in there!!!! Am sure there could have been a better design for that!

First session around an empty cadwell park following a friends tuned civic! [link=http://youtu.be/rKYkT_DpndI]http://youtu.be/rKYkT_DpndI[/link]

ORIGINAL: flat6 That's a cool pic daro. If only our engines could be exposed. I've yet to see any of the Porsche engines i've owned[&o] [:)] I can't make it to Classics At the Castle. Have a good time[;)]

Yes but 10 minutes should have done it [;)] Worth the effort to stop that 20-40mph cut off happening something even Porsche have now given up on with latest 981/991's

My brother (Who lives in The Netherlands) has just done a photo shoot for a Dutch Porsche magazine called "RS" with his friends Spyder and his immaculate and well known 914/16. Here is one of the pics

Cheers. I think the Cayman is a better candidate for showing off it's engine. Looks good. I wonder what the noise is like though!

The 914 is a quirky Porsche in that you don't hear much about them (well, I don't), but you can see the Boxster proportions when looking at that car. I wonder how it would look with a Spyder rear deck [:)] As you say, it is immaculate, unlike some i've seen at car shows!

ORIGINAL: daro911 Any chance of this weather still being with us for next weekend at the Castle bash![&o] and if so who is going from this forum www.classicsatthecastle.com

Is this worth while? I've been reading up on this and it removes the 30-50mph (?) cut out but also means the valves are open all the time, the button in the car no longer works, correct? As a complete Porsche novice and non mechanically minded desk jockey could I figure out how to do this myself? Just remove the engine cover, pull the plug, seal the plug ends to stop corrosion and cable tie to something not too hot around the engine. Ideally I'd like to keep the switchability and keep the neighbours happy but I'm not that fussed!!

don worry about the housewife tale that says the actuators will stick - they dont - I di this to my 997's and never had an issue. Yes - the button basically stops working... Remember however - these arent really noisy engines, even with PSE etc. Now my old F430 - that was noisy! disconnecting the plug really just gives ita little more rrrrumble. its a no-brainer! open the engine cover (only really takes 5 mins) - at top of engine near middle, there i a connector. push the little wire spring and unplug - seeemples!

tips the car over track day noise limits. been black flagged twice now, so cannot run in PSE mode on track. I have unplugged the CR but have had to keep the spyder plugged in due to the track day issues

[/quote] Great, thanks. Yeah the Spyder is even quieter than my M3, that's with PSE on but it's a great sound and turn the exhaust to loud every time I get in anyway! I'll have a look at it this weekend. I'll remember to re-connect for any track days though!

After I unplugged the PSE, I went for a short drive to test it out and didn't bother putting the engine cover back on - the noise was unbelievable. You should all try it!

The 991 Turbo S is quicker around the Nordschleife than the new GT3 and the old GT3 RS 4.0. So, you can have your cake AND eat it? http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/290716/porsche_911_turbo_s_review_price_and_specs.html

I've always wondered if I could run the car without the engine cover? Would maybe upset the aero at speed? Or heat would be to much for the boot maybe turn the white yellowish tint? Would be great on trackdays for cooling after a hard session..

Not sure about the aerodynamics, but it wouldn't hurt the paint; it's no different to several cars I've had with no under bonnet insulation!
