Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: billy1 Interesting to note current prices too - barely much movement since this time last year. At that stage an 8k 2010 car sold through OPC Leicester for around £35k. Still don't think there has been a cheaper car than the red high miles one at 911V either?
When I bought my 911 Speedster within 3 years it's value had fallen to circa £35k+ and that is where the values remained for the next 17 years before steadily creeping back up to list price £55k and then onwards & upwards to where they are now in year 24 Whilst the numbers imported 65 v 237 Spyders obviously plays a big part in their rarity and values today the major difference from an owners view has to be where the Speedster was a seriously inferior driver to the stock 84-89 Carrera and felt very dated by the early 90's as the game had seriously moved on from what was really a late 1970's design to start with the other side of the coin is the Spyder was always the best (987) drivers version made Today both are cracking looking cars with weird and wonderful roofs and once the Spyder becomes collectable the roof will become irrelevant and as long as the drive remains feeling modern then I can see a great future for residual prices especially when comparing a Spyder to a regular Boxster Bottom line has to be why so many people in Porsche dealerships today have nothing but praise when talking about how good Spyders feel and look and when you consider the costs to buy one today what else comes even close[8D] New page new pic[;)]

You beat me too it daro with the new page new pic[:D] Prices have indeed held pretty steady over the last year and aside from the odd cheap car, they're still pretty much where they were, considering the average mileage on the ones we're seeing has gone up. I think the Spyder has done a lot for the Boxster and it remains to be seen whether a Porsche that doesn't have a 911 or 356 moniker can hold its value or even appreciate if it doesn't have racing pedigree (I am ignorant of the other models so correct me if there are other models that doing well in terms of desirability and value). So, if it's going to take 20 years or so, it'll depend on whether the Boxster brand continues to build its desirability so that the older cars are looked back on as collectable. I know the other day you enlightened me to the 924 Carrera GT. With very low production numbers and racing pedigree, that car no doubt has a brand that makes it collectable.

Will a Boxster/Cayman need to be developed into a racing package and then a road-going version sold, for it to become collectable? I know the Speedster isn't a race car derivative but the 911 in general has a race car pedigree and then all spin-off's ride on that. I dunno, just a thought.

Whilst residuals have remained extremely stable over past 18 months especially compared to the 987 S and even the much younger 981's I think 200 of the 237 cars are probably now with potential "keepers" and the balance for sale today are unfortunately not flying off the showroom floors like they were at the beginning of the year[&o]     The best of the above bunch is without doubt the Spyder 2011 Man Red 5.300 £36.900 Private    Good spec example but has been hanging around quite a time now although at trade money I am sure several OPC's or a couple of the successful Spyder selling indi specialists would be a buyer of this car The worst is the Carrera White/Red Ridgeway example with Turbo alloys to kill off the exterior look[]

Guys Nice to see 3 Spyders together . Porsche In The Glen . This event was born when approached at another Tipec car show in E-K in 2012 . We where asked if we could hold a Porsche only event at Calder Glen country park ,so we set about asking people from PCGB and Tipec to attend ,that year after a lot of work we had 56 cars no mean feat . So we where once again asked to organise this years show . I posted up on PH for months advertising the show as well as PCGB and Tipec forums .Well the result was a staggering 90+ cars turned up as you can see from the pictures . The weather was a bit iffy and very cold so we had a lot off no shows if everyone had attended we would have had well over 100+ This is without question the largest turnout in Scotland ever at a car event so a big thanks must go to the both clubs and the guys from PH who supported it .. Already we have been asked to hold a Super Car event as well as this one again next year . .... A lot to think about so Neil the Scottish RO of Tipec and co organizer had better get our thinking caps on a tall order . Also thanks to Flat6 and Daro911 my photo editors for posting the pics [:D]

You're welcome Brian and well done! I know from speaking to our previous RO that these things take more time and effort to put together than people realise. Our region has gone for a committee when he stepped down, to spread the load, so can't be an easy job.

OK guys, as I'm new to both Porsche and Spyder ownership I've got a real dilemma... ...who the hell do I wave to on the road? With the M3 it was easy, any other M3's you give the wave (well a cool raise of one hand off the wheel) or nod to when you see them, with the Spyder I'm not having much luck. I've had a couple of Lotus drivers wave when I've been on early morning drives but I've seen a couple of standard Boxsters and given a wave to them and just received blank stares back. I wouldn't wave to a 911 driver as they are obviously far to superior/rich/more successful to wave back [;)] and they're just common around my way! I like to acknowledge fellow enthusiasts but clearly need some education in Porsche etiquette and don't want to be driving round waving to everyone like a tw*t! Do I just wait until I see another Spyder? That would only be Fire_2 then....

I don't know much about Porsche etiquette as i've not had much in the way of acknowledgement from other Porsche drivers in either the Spyder or Cayman. Complements flow for the Spyder but that is a different thing. I can only guess that there is a range of Boxster buyer, from those who just want a premium brand roadster (and could be in any other roadster at their next purchase) through to those who are Porsche enthusiasts. There may be more of the former than the latter. For sure if I ever saw another Spyder on the road i'd be doing everything (legal[:D]) to get his or her attention[:)]

From the Glen pics. I assume that KCR151 is one of you guys. If so a question please. The inside face of the black wheels (ie opposite side to the tyres) is finished in what appears to be a whitish primer with some shine to it. From time to time either stones or tar mark this surface and the paint seems thin leading to the base easily grinning through when trying to remove said blemish. Despite my best efforts and patience (might be wearing thin as well!) it appears that Porsche have no reference/part no. for the paint and that which I have been given is too grey and therefore no match. Anyone been successful in matching?

If you take a wheel to a motor factors that mix paint they will mix you some to match. However if you look at post #5108 you will see the result I had with Bilt Hamber wheel cleaner

I am not the owner of the car .I own the REd one .I did notice that the inside is a different colour to mine that may because Kenny's wheels are not Spyder one's . I think they are called Sport Classics . Brian

I used to flash the lights at fellow Porsche owners ,have given up now usually just raise one finger of the steering wheel if i get no response they get the two fingers[:D][:D][:D] ..Not much chance passing a Spyder up here . When I had the classic 3.2 Carrera i always got a response from fellow owners . The Saab's 96.models I had always got a flash of the lights and a wave .. Brian
