Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: Nick_USA This sub-forum is for Boxster content not 'Strictly reposts' (also copyrighted I believe). I can gladly move this 'Gossiping' thread to the 'General' sub-forum if you wish to just chat, maybe the moderator there is more tolerant. However, whilst it remains here it's on my watch.
Nick - please? Credit the regulars on here with a modicum of intelligence. This sub-forum is a vehicle of entertainment for a few harmless middle aged blokes who share a common interest in one of the best sports cars Porsche has made in recent years. It has had over 68000 hits and can properly be regarded as one of the PCGB forum success stories. If you are going to start moderating it, an explanation of the ground rules was not unreasonable and didn't really merit threats of shutting us down! Tolerance is a good thing. We even like Ferraris.

If that is the dark metallic green then that's my choice too

I use to know it as Viper Green so 3 of us have chosen that as our PTS

Whilst i'm keen to swiftly settle the unrest Nick, I also wanted to raise a few points whilst the subject is open. Nick I do appreciate that this thread is not for you, by what you've posted elsewhere. http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=732447&mpage=1&key=spyder&#732463 However, I think to brand it 'Strictly re-posts' reflects more of a position of personal dislike to the thread, overshadowing the moderator's stance about the picture. When the thread was started, no-one expected it morph and grow and the more people wanted to talk about Spyders, the more it grew. Club members and guests enjoy their cars in different ways. Some go out on drives, some polish and display them, some go to the regional evening and socialise whilst barely talking about the cars at all, some discuss maintenance, some share magazine articles they've found. I do a bit of all of the above. Some people don't find their way around the Internet easily but enjoy reading or watching magazine reviews about their cars. Some of us took it upon ourselves to post links to any reviews we found, so others could get to them. It also extended to interesting pictures of the cars. Google Images and youtube wouldn't be highly successful business units of Google if looking at pictures and watching videos was an unpopular activity. We're also mindful that some people haven't been on board since the beginning so we shamelessly post repeats as well[:)]. We have achieved what we set out to do as well (which wasn't the original aim but over time made sense), which was to get a number of people return to one place to share ideas, opinions and experiences, in the knowledge that a good number of people are guaranteed to turn up and get involved. We posted a lot of links to information on the Internet and people kept returning for more and we got our forum. I take Rob's point about understanding the rules. I don't know anything about copyright infringement. Posting a link to a source (image) on the Internet (the URL where it resides on the Internet), not copying the item to your computer to post as your own i.e. what your browser does when it displays an image within a web page - I would like some guidance on whether that acceptable on the PCGB forum. There are people I see log in here regularly and have done so over a long period, but they never post. Something must be of interest even for those who only choose to read. But, talking about the cars is what car fanatics do, in all sorts of ways. To deliberately pick a topic from here that isn't related to the title thread, here's just one example. Those who dip in and out will miss some of these conversations but there are people benefiting from what goes on in here. And of course there's the fun social aspect for the regulars who banter in between the knowledge sharing. I know I don't talk about the cars the whole time when at a regional club evening. We talk about other things as well[:)]

ORIGINAL: Andy Fagan New Pads with Giro Disc titanium Brake pad shields fitted ready for Oulton Park
did you fit the damping plates along with shims?
ORIGINAL: Andy Fagan Yes, I retained them too. And the rear :)
ORIGINAL: Fire_2 So the damping plates stick to the titanium plates, so what sticks/holds the brake pads (rs-29?) to the titanium shims? also have you thought about removing your brake disk shields? I think they would hold the heat in...(not sure if I've asked you this before :S)
ORIGINAL: Andy Fagan They're EBC yellow stuff. The bells as far as I can figure are for dissipating the heat [&:] may be wrong though. Titanium backing plates are full floating just held with the main pin, they're not going anywhere :) I think I should be ok with the disk shields in place as I have the GT2/Cup ducts and the EBC pads. They may get a bit warm on track days but will be good on sprints and HC's I reckon.
ORIGINAL: Andy Fagan
ORIGINAL: Fire_2 Just been quoted £200 for these gt2 largest brake ducts from my OPC, Are they just got and forget or is there any trimming Ect needed? Upgrade my gt3 ducts so did anyone want them or could I fit them to the rear?
You need to cut a slot about 3 - 4 inches along the front inner arch for it to slide in. Very easy job,

ORIGINAL: Fire_2 OK, I think I'm going to go with Centre of Gravity for the geo work, and have the front top mount holes increased for a little extra camber any recommended settings? Could possibility link in the Outon park track day hmmm....
I think you'd be better getting the adjustable front lower control arms as you'd have to drop the struts a bit to elongate the holes which is not best solution.
ORIGINAL: Fire_2 RSS Tarmac Series ? factory gt3? best / cheap place to get from?
ORIGINAL: Andy Fagan Either of those will do the job, the RSS are really proper but are pricey. I got -1-45 camber on the front of my CR with the standard top mount slots. For me I think this will be enough as it is a road car too. I've used 911design for a lot of my bits and pieces. Have had great service and quality products.

Just picked up my Spyder fro OPC Bristol. Very pleased with the service given by the staff especially Jeff Wong. who sourced the car and dealt with the sale.

A bespoke forum sounds a good idea, you however could absolutely NOT be a moderator. There'd almost be nothing to read if you hadn't got it, done it or agreed with it 100%!! Lights touch paper and stands well back. Before anyone starts and I get banned, it's a light hearted poke and not a personal attack.

RUBBER. Is it normal for the inside edges of all four tyres to be wearing quicker than the rest. Is this the set up? I would have thought the inside of the rears possibly due camber or whatever it's called but the outside of the fronts. Just checked all round mine and they are definitely all wearing quicker on the inside edge. Front left also seems to wear quicker than front right?? Think the rear I didn't change due puncture is probably illegal after Thruxton, may just have 3/4's above 1.6mm. Good job I have the extra rear in the garage.

My Michelins wore pretty evenly across the tread front and rear right up to when they were changed. What tyres do you have Vroom? Not that that makes a difference to how they should wear.

rears do have a lot of neg camber oem hence why not adding more. again Camber is not a good thing unless you drive the balls off the car all the time. (Camber only works at mid corner at speed with good grip) why do you think Porsche only set -0.5 to a normal Boxster and then on the Spyder increased that to -0.7 at the front, rear oem on a Spyder is about -1.6 or may be more. in this weather you will never get to use the camber on a wet road. did you notice my Chalked up tyres pictures. the outers are not even touched under normal driving. drive in straight lines at normal speeds and the inners will be gone. My front left gets hammered on round abouts :)
