Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: MrDemon you might get Sun Wednesday. I am interested to hear about the GT3 MC install and the feel on that unit from Andy. and if by magic a pic arrives standard is 22 mm PCCB is 23mm gt3 Master is 24mm so they say, I guess they all look the same. did they bench bleed the MC ?
I didn't fit it myself in the end as I was planning to do it at the weekend but the OPC ordered a 996 MC instead of a 997 which meant it didn't arrive until today so, as I had my own work to do I had them fit it and fit the SRF. It feels the same as the old one on the road, but the test will be on the track after a few laps, so I'll let you know

PS: From another forum:- Cayman S/997 (std) 997.355.910.00 23.8 mm bore Cayman S/997S (PCCB) 997.355.910.10 25.4 mm bore (+7%) 997 GT3 997.355.910.30/80 27 mm bore (+13%)

Bloody hell Cecil!! I nearly spat my coffee out when you wrote "tomorrow"! It's the 23rd [&:] But it's a shame you can't make it, but I'm sure the weather will be better at Anglesey. Yes all brake mods are done so it'll be interesting to try it out on track Although it looks the same as the std one. Hehe where did you find that focus pic? That was the Cambrian Rally 12 months ago [:D]
Ooops!! Sorry for the false panic! Yep I knew it was the 23rd but why I thought it was tomorrow I don't know[&:] Had previously had Wed in my mind but this week doesn't work for me[&o] Google images ended up taking me to your facebook page[;)] Rob's pic came via google too[;)] Hope the rain holds off.

the 4c has posted its ring time 8.04.40 on r spec Pirelli P Zero Trofeo tyres. http://youtu.be/xWznFj1GQQg not sure why the whole lap is not posted though :-(

What is the Spyder's time

none have a time I think a Cayman did 8.10 on road tyres. A spyer on r-spec tyres I would say would be 7.50 no issue may be less. A Cayman R maybe quicker due to less drag on the high speed stuff, My Cayman R is faster than the Spyder above 90 mph the Spyder faster below 90mph.

what is the difference in time for road tyres and r-spec ?

A lot :) even with the new Pilot super sport which is still a road tyre the gains over the PS2 were big on a small track. •Road-holding on dry surfaces: Tests showed a 1.5-second gain on a 2,700-meter closed-circuit track. Fitting a r-spec tyres has to be worth over 10 seconds imo on the ring.

ORIGINAL: flat6 As others have done, get your name down with a few OPC's, say one in each of the franchises, or just one that is keen on sourcing Spyders such as PC Silverstone. You could find a good car that way as some aren't coming to market as they are being sold to a waiting list. Good luck!!
after my car had its first service the other week a few days later I received a letter asking if I wanted to sell it!as if an opc would give me £40k+ which is the minimum I would let my car go for!!!!compared with whats been on offer at circa £40k I would say the forecourt price for my car would be circa £43-44k so perhaps they were after a quick buck!
How many miles is on yours?

ORIGINAL: daro911 I would think fitting the radio back... 99.9% of potential owners would want it without question IMO [8D]
Someone will want one without a radio but it doesn't look as if there is a long queue of people so inclined.
I'm surprised about the radio - I never have mine on, partly because it sounds terrible, but mostly because I find it's superfluous in the Spyder, there's so much more interesting things going on! I have to admit, I'd love to buy 'Barbara's' car, but logistically it's too difficult!

ORIGINAL: flat6 A low number of buyers and sellers for an unpopular spec will indeed find each other. Likewise, there are very few aqua blue Spyders which means it was unpopular choice, but an aqua blue car will sell quickly because it is rare and one buyer will jump at one seller.
I hear you homerD. The PSE sounds great and when having an enjoyable drive I don't need the radio on. Different people use the car for a broader or narrower range of uses, some of whom will want their CDs, radio or MP3 collection to accompany some of those uses. But i'm not pushing one view or the other as generic - it was just interesting to observe though that of all the cars we've seen come on the market, this is one of the least talked about and its key attributes are what it doesn't have and its PCCB. I'm a little surprised at that. Well, perhaps not overly surprised. Many a Boxster buyer said the roof is too impractical for their use. That being the case, I guess many of those who crossed over weren't looking to lose all they had before.

I can see why you'd want a premium for yours. Will be interesting to see what an OPC now asks for a ultra low mileage one if they get their hands on another such example. I think mileage has been the most influential factor on price, well, below say 4000 miles. Above that, some have still been slow to shift despite having low mileage for the age. 'As new' cars have always quickly found homes.

I have to agree refs your radio comments and I have nav never used ipod never used air never used cd never used and the radio on but very low as I like to hear the pse singing I really do dislike the big black hole having no radio leaves in dash and would have a radio just for that reason alone [:D] Homerdog you should make the call and see if you can't strike a deal[;)]

ORIGINAL: spyderwhite http://fastestlaps.com/tracks/nordschleife.html new 981s b is 7.58 and 981s c is 7.55. no spyder but I would have thought circa 8.00
Have a look at the various results here. I know it's not scientific but you can see how the Spyder compares to other cars at various tracks (e.g slower than the Cayman R at some tracks and faster at others, so as I say not scientific as the driver, conditions and track layout play a part). Also, Porsche officially said that the Spyder laps the Nordschleife 7 seconds quicker than the Boxster S, but doesn't quote an official time for the Boxster S[&:] Doubt any of that helps[:)]

The storage cavity replacing the radio wouldn't bother me aesthetically. I'd happily go without carpets, electric windows and climate control too (but more likely on a Cayman). I guess it also depends on whether it's your first, second or third car in your stable.
