Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Still learning the new SLR. so did not know what to set it all for, but it's a nice toy to get to learn after my old SLR and 1st time out with it.

Looks like a great day and some great mutual bonding too[:D] Refs the PDK comments I can add what my local OPC salesman recently said to me if he was buying a 987 it would have to be manual if he was buying a 981 it would have to be PDK so much improved is the current generation over the original[&:]

But then the 981 steering is dire, so I can never see me owning one of those either as a fun car. We will have to wait for gen 2 electric steering before buying any newer Porsche. And a more ajustable rev range type of dial to control PDK change points in auto mode. Gen 2 PDK is still not where I want it to be, the BMW had 7 modes which was better. But a dial with infinite adjustment seems so simple an idea to me.

Porsche have only just discovered DAB radio something I have had in my Mini's since 2007! I think by 2020 they may have worked out how to offer a multi function steering wheel with flappy paddles that is standard kit even on a Fiat 500 Abarth! Naturally this wheel could be offered as an optional pay through the nose 3rd alternative to the current 2 upgrades available for extra money today [&o] Your infinite adjustment dial is probably not even on their radar with all the other stufff that was needed many yesterdays ago and as standard kit not optional tick box kit[:D]

It was nice to meet up with old friends and some new including Mr D who came down and it was good to meet up and put a face to the name :) It was a shame Cecil didn't make it, and was a duly missed Spyderman [:D] Track was very slippery in the morning but I have to say all of the brake mods I did paid off and the brake pedal was perfect all day. Now all that's needed is some work on the driver, although I've been trying to repair the nail marks Rob K left on passenger side of my dash [:D] I'm downloading a very long vid which will be boring to most who weren't on the track at the time but you'll see how slippery the track was in places (Which seemed to changed lap by lap) but I'll post a link to it for anyone who wants a watch later. It was good to meet a few CR owners 5 including Mr D and myself!!

Thanks Andy. Sounds and looks like I missed a good day, and the passenger ride I have been thinking about since you upgraded[;)] Glad to hear the brake upgrades work well. Here's a thought that might help you be contented with steel discs[;)]. When I was thinking of switching to a turbo, I saw what was almost the perfect car for me. The only thing that was making me reconsider that particular car was the PCCB's. I'm all for them technically, but I felt as if the cost risk hanging over me was going to nagging at me a little whilst owning it. I like to use my brakes (well, you like to use yours more than me [8D] ) and if you're unlucky with premature wear, gravel damage or a clumsy wheel fitter catching one, the costs are huge. I found different suggested costs across the internet, so I won't quote any of them as I don't know which is accurate but it certainly looked like a 5 figure sum to replace all 4 corners. If anyone knows the true cost, please state. I know some will say just change them to steels if something happens but then you're back where you could have started but OK, with bigger six piston calipers. For me, if i'm honest, I never buy anything would make me wince if I had to spend on it, so I walked away as I know I couldn't afford to deal with an unfortunate incident with a ceramic disc and I don't like to go backwards once i've gone forwards. That's not everyone's position, but I think i'd be able to enjoy the car more without thinking how loose the road surface is (i've never been off into the gravel at a circuit!). A bit too pessimistic for some I know, as the discs are proving very reliable if treated right. I just like to be able to drive my car anywhere and anyhow without thinking about it. If I was doing low mileage and not using it as a daily driver or the car was not going to be kept for more than a few years, i'd have them.

Great video,Andy-even a little bit featuring the red e-bay 924S-& I did pull over! Interesting to see on those laps where you could hang onto 3rd more -sometimes 2nd -whereas on the fun tour[;)]-Chris's car was moving through the box a lot more. Could explain despite his awesome brakes-you were able to pull away quicker in parts.

Yes I was using 2nd and 3rd more in the morning dampness

I thought this once, but converting to steels if your PCCB mess up would still be a massive gain over normal steels. 6 pots Calipers, bigger MC and 350MM disks all round :) vs 4 pot 317mm up front and 292mm at the rear with a MC where your foot falls to the floor. It's a win win imo a lot of guys if they do a lot track days fit the steels any way and store the PCCB. on the road only PCCB will last over 100k though.

Gone to the dark side for the day. North of 60k in its heavily optioned trim. PDK gen2 is quicker to shift but not massively so. Strangely in sport and sport plus it automatically turns traction off and you can't turn it on again. Still has the annoying kick down button even if gearbox in manual. Rocker switches as opposed to paddles are awful. Guess you get used to them, put kept on changing down by pulling the right side. Engine/exhaust makes a nice noise, no PSE on it. Very different sound to 987 with PSE. BOSE a big improvement on sound plus. 7 digit postcode and Bluetooth streaming from iPhone all welcome. Like the speed limits in the nav to. 18 way or whatever sports seats, not a patch on the buckets. A final point, I really do NOT like the steering.

that's the issue after a Spyder/Cayman R the steering feels like an Audi :-( I guess if you come from a Audi then it might feel better , but coming from a 987.2 car if you like driving it's just not right. And getting back into a 987.2 car makes it feel so direct after, there is no way I would swap how ever much better every thing else might be.
 
Came from BMW Z4M Coupe and M3 prior to that. Steering and brakes are a massive improvement over the BMW's. Not sure the 3.4S engine is as good as the 3.2 in the M's. Other parts of Porsche such as lack of standard xenons, auto lights and wipers etc is a disgrace in my opinion. If it was a light weight, track orientated car - fair enough ;-)
 
Keeps RRP down of the car but we all know you need to add circa 15k of options to a Porsche and the Cayman S is really a £60k car. think my spec was £61k with no PCCB £67k with PCCB. I would rather a more expensive car with bits standard as resale would be better, Porsche only keep 50% of the base price so you lose 50% and 15k over 3 years :-( So never new for me lol heated heats, xenons blue tooth for a phone should be standard. people said my TTRS was expensive for a TT but I did not have to add any options to it (paid 42k) , so imo it was quite cheap and I bought it new, one of the few cars I have had brand new with my own money. Full leather, heated seats, xenons, multi function wheel, all standard. imo £42k all in for a 330BHp sports coupe seems great value to me esp as for £800 you could make it 430BHp :) which of course I did,
