ORIGINAL: flat6 I went out in the Panamera Diesel. It's a RWD 250HP 3 litre turbocharged V6 with 550Nm torque and an 8 speed Tiptronic S transmission.
New Panamera Diesel from Jan 14 production will have 300hp and 650NM [;)]
Thanks[:)]. The figures are good but I don't look at diesel for performance. It can't be all win win win with diesel. I expect the figures give their best over a narrower rev range, maybe providing high torque at low revs and running out of breath further up? I haven't checked and I didn't push the car hard enough to get a feel for its performance profile. I do appreciate that diesels typically outperform petrol engines in '50-70mph in top gear' type tests with the extra low revs torque, which is good for motorway manoeuvres (but that's not my favourite performance driving technique). One thing is for sure, these high power diesels, if used in a spirited fashion, do away with being frugal when driven like that. Many people also jump on the assumption that they are always cheaper to run. I read a very informative article years ago comparing a number of cars, such as BMW 3 series and Volkwagen golf, the petrol vs diesel equivalent versions. They laid out what I had suspected and by factoring in the higher cost of the diesel model to buy, the difference in depreciation, the higher cost of diesel fuel and better diesel fuel economy, came to a useful conclusion for each model. They calculated how many extra thousands of miles you'd have to do in the diesel models over 2-3 years of ownership to BREAK EVEN with the diesel model (and that was years ago before the cost of diesel shot up). People who buy them for driving around town may often not be saving anything. If one is doing the mileage then it's an easier decision. To shake things up, the Panamera diesel is ~£900 cheaper than the petrol model. You can always count on Porsche to break the mould[:D]. I wouldn't pay extra for extra performance in a diesel though. For performance driving I expect i'd always stick with petrol and how it delivers power and torque across a rev range. I had better shut up about diesel on this forum before I get banned!!!

I'll have to buy some kind of performance enhanced keyboard and mouse to shave off a few tenths[:D]

Must confess to sulking a little since my little chat with the Feds in Scotland a couple of weeks ago and the Spyder was put away dirty and left untouched. It has only ever been cleaned by Zymol products and I have never had an issue with the annoying tar spots that generally plague my wife's Fiat and Abarth 500. Until now. This is it AFTER washing it this morning:

They are all over it. Was going to get the clay bar out but Tom was fed up as we had washed/dried/vacced the fleet and then it started raining. I've had to put it away without drying the brakes properly so they will be rusty as hell already... Not ideal. On the bright side, chicken is in the oven and smells sublime! Happy Sunday Spydermen [:D]

That will take some cleaning off Rob. I take it the weather was not hot enough to melt the tarmac up North but from the evidence of the Tar Spots it looks like you have been doing some hard driving!

It's weird. I washed it after the Oulton Park track day on the Wednesday and it was fine with the paint still really "glassy". I thought much of the muck was dead/wet leaves but the paint feels really flat now in places. Can't say we went that fast after my roadside "chat" with BiB... So, I now need to take it out and drive it long enough to clean the brakes then get to work with the clay bar, HD cleanser etc. Rain forecast for next few days so it's going to be a Sisyphean task.

I use, Auto Smart Tar and Adhesive Removal or Tardis for short!
AutosmartTardisTaran1.jpg
then normally IronX for the wheels! (also apply to a microfiber towl rather then spray as it might run down and damage side stickers)

Rob Certainly looks like you have got your work cut out getting her back to her former self. I do hope you have a nice warm garage where you and your Zymol can get to work. I think if it was me I would consider getting one of recommended professionals in to take care of it. A kinda Christmas present to myself and the car[;)]

Pricing advice: tentatively thinking about moving the Spyder on as you may have read on here. Trying to get a handle on pricing, no rush to sell so can ignore the depression at this time of year. I would welcome opinions given the following spec, the eventual buyer may obviously be on here so this strategy may be risky but need to start somewhere. 2011/60 plate car in Met Silver with black stripes, showing 11.2k PDK with paddles and sports chrono. Silver Spyder alloys with new PS2 N2 tyres. Buckets, PCM with sound plus and Bluetooth. Rear park and PSE. Cup holder delete but CD storage, iPod/USB interface. Climate a/c. Porsche VTS with two fobs and two keys. FPSH, even down to them changing tyres at £30 a corner!! Porsche fitted interior car cover, Zunsport centre rad grill and Porsche colour centre caps and fitted mats. MOT due Jan'14, warranty Jan'15, service due on time rather than mileage Jan'15 Excellent condition inside and out, no dings but the odd nose stone chip. Please do not let this turn into a spec, colour debate. I would welcome your expert opinions on sensible sale price. Thanks! Feel free to keep it off forum and email me directly, don't think PM works. Thanks Kitchens.

I was just about to say exactly what Brian said. E mail response only - I will e mail you latter today! Surprisingly in Jan Feb and March 2013 I found cars were disappearing faster than in the spring. Did yours come from PC Cambridge?

VroomM Don't let the time of year put you off. As John says, the cars seem to sell all year round. The last 2 years, the cars have sold quickest through the winter, with the highest stock levels in the summer. So no harm testing the waters now if you wanted. Depreciation seems to be tracking the 987, with a premium on top. So, waiting a year for another plate to come out and another year on its age, isn't going to push the price up. Wait for the cheap car in Ireland to sell and then price yours around £4K under the OPC car. With so few cars around, that is as good a yardstick as any to justify to a seller. "Buy this car private or pay £X,000 more to buy the one from the OPC". You can't say fairer than that. You have transferable, lengthy warranty, so you might not even want to go as low as £4K under. Valuing yours against other private sellers would be tricky as there are too few cars to gauge a market average and the small number of private sellers' asking prices could be high spikes or low spikes in value depending on their personal circumstances, but too few sellers to smooth that out into an average. Don't start too low and see if the phone rings. The cars that have taken long to sell I don't think it is because of asking price. It is probably more down to mileage and condition (or really whacky spec, and by that I mean such as every piece of interior trim painted white against a red leather interior, which won't be to everyone's taste. I have not seen a whacky spec car very often. As you say, colour and spec debate is pointless, the car has sold in all sorts of trim combinations and yours in fine).

A fair amount of work ahead for you [:)] You are using the car correctly i.e. use it to drive where you need to drive and then clean off any dirt. Trying to prevent it getting dirty reduces the amount of enjoyment you get out of it[:)] Maybe because mine is a daily driver I don't get concerned about rusty discs. The orange surface on the disc is minimal and doesn't get extreme by the time I drive the car the following day. I guess yours stands for longer than mine as you have a fleet of cars to choose from[;)]. But a short journey after washing to dry your brakes will cause more unsightly yellow sludge under your oil filler cap from cold running. Worse than orange discs that easily goes away the next time you drive.

Presume it goes without saying this stuff will also remove the wax (if indeed there is any left on there)? It's only 3 months since it was last done, have to say I'm quite surprised as it has never been a problem before. VvroomM, I'm sure you'll find a buyer. My only opinion on price is that it is generally easier for a seller to reduce the asking price than to increase it. I still can't get my head round the Spyder market - it is just too small for any meaningful patterns to emerge. I'd personally wait until next year now. John - yes, I've a nice radiator in the garage. I do quite enjoy shutting myself in there. I take the Bose docking station out with me and stick some tunes on whilst working my way through microfibre cloths!
