Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

New page new pic

ORIGINAL: jdpef356 I wonder why so many Spyders have come to the market all at Once? Just the odd one at the end of 2013 and now we must have 6 or seven. Has someone heard something we have not?[8|]
It's probably because all the Spyder owners were watching this topic and when it was announced there were none available, everyone thought, "That should command a premium"!! [:D][:D][:D]

There are indeed watchers[:-] But I think you're onto it though. When the market reached zero a number of private sellers have thought it's a good time to try to shift it. Perhaps a number of dealers thought it was a good time to source one when there was close to none for sale. I've previously been contacted about selling mine. I bet they're all kicking themselves now[:D]

Maybe it was something to do with the Christmas & New Year holidays when the market is thin anyway and little point in advertising. Add the terrible weather and a car that has an almost makeshift roof cover.......is it any surprise there were next to no cars advertised? How about this for a prediction......when the weather improves, maybe toward the summer....I forecast there will be more than 5% of Uk Spyder production advertised over the period of a month....Don't panic this number of convertible cars on offer before the summer, is not a crash....keep calm Spydermen! [:D]

29/12/12 there was a choice of 9 cars for sale compared to a choice of just 2 at the end of December 13 [&o] 09/01/13 there was a chouce of 12 cars

Another thing to remember is that ownership often cycles in 12/24/36 month periods because of finance, warranties etc., so cars registered for the 1st Jan to get new year on registration doc will appear at this time of year regularly, same as the reg number prefix change dates.

That's only 12 cars!!! There are 50 Ferrari 458 spiders ads on Pistonheads alone at time of typing. Makeshift roof indeed - thought we'd got over that one years ago. It's a carbon fibre masterpiece. [:D]

ORIGINAL: Rocket Man Makeshift roof, you want to try driving an Atom when it is raining, that roof is pure luxury.
Makeshift roof [] checkout the crap you get on your £80k plus Morgan V8 link below [:D][:D] In fairness to Porsche designers a lot of thought and effort seems to have made the suncap concept very watertight and easy to install or remove No personal experience as my roof is never on but that's what daily drivers have reported back [;)] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFvd9DVt9-I

ORIGINAL: flat6 The original 911 3.2 Speedster was launched with a single seater conversion tonneau cover.

The Spyder Rag top is brilliant![:)] Now just think what it is like in the 911 speedster with the 'hardtop tonneau' The driver must be boiling from the shoulders down. Whilst on the move his head must be frozen. And if it rains what option does he have? Just to add insult the driver kinda looks like a 'Hard boiled' egg ready for the chop[:D][:D] P.S. And the passenger doesn't have much of a view either![;)]

The hardtop tonneau was a concept for the Speedster owner who wanted to go Speeding on race tracks etc [:D] It never happened and imagine how much that little option would have cost you back in the day[]

Winter has indeed typically been a busy time for Spyder sales. I think people by these cars whenever the right one for them comes up, rather than it be a summer whim purchase. Our summers are unpredictable and I think most people who buy a car with a manual roof are in it for the committed ownership experience of having it as a second car and driving it at any time of the year when a nice day comes along that the roof can stay off. I was searching from December 2011 to Feb 2012 and cars we selling before I could arrange viewings, in the snow! Then by the 2012 summer, cars were hanging around for weeks. Same again in 2013 summer.

Roof is good. The way the 2 sections overlap keeps out the weather. I drive mine all year round and try to keep it clean.

There's no sound proofing layers though (but the canvas is as good as any other), so it's not for those who are particular or sensitive[;)]. But if you 'man up', its no problem[:D] Have never had a problem getting warm in the car, the heater is great. Will you get caught in the rain with the roof down? Don't take it off if you think it's going to rain!!

When the subscriptions stopped working I realised how much more manageable my email inbox became, such is the frequency of posts on this thread[8D] (erm, not 'thread', I mean Spyder forum [;)]) I think I clicked on the 'unsubscribe' button near the top right to ensure I don't get them when the subscription is fixed. Instead I log on to see what's going on. I think it was Carreraboy who was getting crippled with subscription emails from here [:D]
ORIGINAL: carreraboy Tried to unsubscribe ... not that it a very worthy Thread ... but seems impossible ... so good luck everyone[:D]

ORIGINAL: rob.kellock What a mistake to make!! Subscribing to this thread would be the work of a madman!
Posting is Sadistic, I can hear Carreraboy's email alert from here! [:D] OK back to topic please [;)]

This 200BHP SC even has the go faster lightweight side stripe [:D] http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C463497 In stock now is this superb Porsche 911 lightweight special. Utilising lightweight carbon fibre and composite parts the car weighs exactly a tonne which, with over 200 BHP gives a great, nimble fun car. A fortune has been spent on the car, which started off as a nice 911 SC which we'd known for some years. Every area of the car has been stripped of weight, even down to lightweight door handles inside and out! We've taken the car to our local weighbridge and had it weighed at 1000kg, exactly a tonne, giving a great power to weight ratio and a healthy saving off the standard car. The goal of the project was to create a supremely light, nimble road car, which can of course be used for trackdays, without losing some of the subtlety of the early 911s, a real sleeper of a car. The full list of modifications is: * Plexan side windows, front and rear quarterlights and rear screen * Composite roof panel with no sunroof * Carbon fibre front fenders * clear lamp diffusers * composite engine lid * composite bonnet * RS type bonnet struts * Composite front and rear bumpers * carbon fibre rear reflector * front and rear valence deleted * front and rear bumper corners deleted * composite rear tail-light housings * wing indicator repeaters deleted * composite doors * electric windows deleted * lightweight engine cover grille * 935 strut brace * electric mirror delete * drilled door handles * undersealing deleted * Dynamat lighter weight soundproofing * Clock delete * Heigo full rollcage * stereo delete * Momo Prototipo steering wheel * rear seat delete * lightweight seat slide supports * RS style lightweight doorcards with brown leather trim * lightweight RS carpets with rear seat delete * sunvisor delete * centre console removed * driver and passenger Recaro lightweight seats trimmed in brown * 4 point harnesses * Tuthill competition lightweight wiring * carbon fibre gearshift rod cover * alloy footboards The car has been stripped right back and repainted in its original colour. As we have done all the work we are happy to offer the car with our usual fully comprehensive 12 month worldwide bumper to bumper warranty.

It's £50 grand!!! The colour may be original but doesn't suit the concept at all. It needs to be lairy. 1000kg and 200bhp - Spyder would leave it for dust at 1275kg and 320bhp? I do like the concept though, a light weight old skool 911 is very covetable.
