He can order a used 987 Spyder because it exists. He cant order a 981 Spyder because it doesnt and if he let the cat out of the bag about a secret new model he will be working for Skoda next week []ORIGINAL: John H There is an interview on Pistonheads with Walter Rohrl http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=52&i=29197 in which he says (and I quote) I've just ordered a Boxster Spyder with a manual shift - and I know that it's working, it's perfect, and it's up to me how I handle things He can hardly have ordered a 987 version, as they are presumably long out of production ... so does he know something the rest of us don't? New Page New Pic []ORIGINAL: daro911There isn't any 981 Spyder planned or in the pipeline so must be a 987[]ORIGINAL: clubsport Apparently, this was last week at the Autosport show.....Walter R has just ordered a manual Boxster Spyder ("PDK makes life easier for normal customers.") ...I wonder of that is 987 or maybe even 981?
How on earth can you compare those 2 very different cars and the words of some unknown "Racing driver" [][][][][][][][][][]ORIGINAL: kenneth ritchieWorth watching in full. True the cars are not identical but being built by the same race car builder with the same mechanicals, engine and brakes, it's not a bad pairing. Yes the manual car didn't have the carbon fibre body panels and GT3 front end aero but mechanically it should've giving a decent pairing to compare the transmissions? I've no knowledge of the driver but at least it was the same driver in both. But i'm no racing driver[] I waited a long time for you to get into an R to hear your views vs a standard 987. And modern 911 is faster as is any GTR, you going to buy one of those and sell up ? I cannot work out what goes though people minds when they make a conscious decision to buy a PDK car over manual. And I am being honest asking that. Only cars I would buy twin clutch would be high power turbo, as the lag does not drop when changing gear if every 1/10th counted on that 30-130 run.ORIGINAL: kenneth ritchieWorth watching in full. Yes it's due for service soon so I'll see about that. With regards to the cars being similar..... I'm not so sure as the Americans are not as scared as us of changing lots of things (Some not always for better) so it wouldn't surprise me what they had had done to them. The trend at the moment is fitting 3.8's into them [8D]ORIGINAL: flat6 True the cars are not identical but being built by the same race car builder with the same mechanicals, engine and brakes, it's not a bad pairing. Even though it's been explained to you a million times? The reason is simple - you're incapable of understanding why people do anything that's different to you. Or you're so deperate to protect your residuals that you waste much of your time talking up your car and talking down others'.ORIGINAL: MrDemon I cannot work out what goes though people minds when they make a conscious decision to buy a PDK car over manual. As an owner to date of 5 YES five Boxster manuals since 1997 and as a past owner of probably 70 manual only cars in my motoring life when the opportunity recently arose to purchase my 6th Boxster 2nd Spyder a 1000 mile PDK example I had to drive the car for circa 100 miles before the penny finally dropped and the light was switched on PDK can be fun. PDK can be involving. PDK can be the way forward even for a complete and utter loather of auto boxes like myself The fact you can't work this phenominam out is beyond a mere mortal like me but I am sure via the tinternet and your I.T. connections the answer could be found []ORIGINAL: billy1Even though it's been explained to you a million times? This forum is getting a bit repetitive. The same person poses the same challenges and we're going around the same counter-arguements. Converts from manual to PDK is a new discussion point. But the fact that some individuals will dislike PDK, or dislike it in certain cars, is as old a discussion point as PDK itself. You can of course leave them to their views once you are convinced that they are convinced that PDK is not for them...
Go on, I'll accept the challenge. Not saying I would but... find an interesting car you could (give or take a couple of quid) swap your Spyder for. My starter for ten. www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/ferrari/355/ferrari-f355-spider/308050?isexperiment=true
you could be nice for at least 1 post and tell every one why you decided to buy a PDK over a manual, I don't talk up residuals as I am not selling a car, cars in the right specs what every they might be are selling over 40k atm, they need no talking up from me ;-) No one even knows your spec as you will not post it or even a picture !!!ORIGINAL: billy1Even though it's been explained to you a million times?
