You've had a number of different explanations provided to you over the course of this thread. For me, as I have previously said, it was the best value car (age/mileage/spec) available at the time - simple as that. I was open minded enough to give it a go and don't regret it for a moment. That's not the same for everyone - there seem to be plenty of buyers who actively seek a PDK car. As you well know, it is your constant, repetitive criticism of choices which you don't agree with which is what frustrates people. Why you can't just stop going on and on about spec (well, the spec that is "right", i.e. your spec) is beyond me. What are you hoping to achieve?ORIGINAL: MrDemonyou could be nice for at least 1 post and tell every one why you decided to buy a PDK over a manual, I don't talk up residuals as I am not selling a car, cars in the right specs what every they might be are selling over 40k atm, they need no talking up from me ;-) No one even knows your spec as you will not post it or even a picture !!!ORIGINAL: billy1Even though it's been explained to you a million times? The reason is simple - you're incapable of understanding why people do anything that's different to you. Or you're so deperate to protect your residuals that you waste much of your time talking up your car and talking down others'.ORIGINAL: MrDemon I cannot work out what goes though people minds when they make a conscious decision to buy a PDK car over manual. And I am being honest asking that.

Hmmm what car i would trade my Spyder in for.......... Does it have to be the same value? To be honest it a hard one. Will have to give it some thought. Maybe that white Speedster that was shown on here or the 997 SC. Even then it would be hard to part with my Spyder, He has a name and everything now. Yes i do become far to attached to my cars.
The idea behind my "moving on" game was to find interesting vehicles in a broadly similar price category - say early 30s to early 40s. Manual or automatic []
Not to perpetuate the Manual Vs. PDK box argument. I too was “manual only†at one time, the thought of a Porsche with an auto box was just wrong to me, a sports car MUST have a manual box, or so I thought. After having the Lambo with paddles, for me personally it didn’t detract from the car, it meant that I drove the car differently of course but it didn’t leave me feeling that I should have bought one with a manual box. I bought the Spyder a few months ago with the manual box but I’d have been just as happy with PDK I think….at least I hope, as I’m awaiting a firm delivery date for the GT3. I like the Spyder a lot but I won’t be keeping both so it will be hitting the classifieds soon.
If you could keep the Spyder you will have covered 2 key areas. Manual box still available and more importantly topless motoring still an option too [8D]ORIGINAL: 993AL I bought the Spyder a few months ago with the manual box but I’d have been just as happy with PDK I think….at least I hope, as I’m awaiting a firm delivery date for the GT3. Alan Perhpas you would like to let us know the spec/colour etc of your car. There could well be a lurker on here looking for one[]ORIGINAL: 993AL Not to perpetuate the Manual Vs. PDK box argument. Helping the moving on bit, how about a colourful one? http://www.classicandsportscar.com/classifieds/classic-cars/ultima/all-models/2005-ultima-can-am-6-5-v8/1439913 its in Yorkshire so must be good.
The interesting part of current PDK discussion for me is from people who have taken it on after previously preferring manual and have experience living with it for a while. After hearing daro's change i'm actually looking forward to my next PDK loan vehicle where I will force myself to keep it in manual mode the whole time and try to clock up 100 miles to get my head around it [] As for what car I would consider if changing the Spyder it would be the Alfa Romeo 4C. I'm getting an interest in automated transmissions and this has one, should I too become a convert LoL []. OK I don't expect the FIAT DCT to be as good as the Porsche PDK but I wouldn't care. It'd definitely be a 2nd car whereas the Spyder is my only car as I don't think i'd want to drive a car as raw as that every day and be able to appreciate it. Being a second car i'd only tick the boxes for parking sensors (rear visbility is very limited) and the trademark Alfa Romeo S-hole wheels which are 1" larger than standard at 18" front and 19" rear. Yes i'd also have the radio but that is free[]. When the 981 gets an R spec version then I might take a look[]
Second choice is a 997.1 turbo. Even more of a daily driver than the Spyder. Heavier Less nimble Less exclusive More expensive to run But Has four seats which comes in handy Much faster in a straight line and in any gear Have yet to scratch that 911 itch Would look great to my eye sitting on a set of Sport Classics[]

OK then Rob, time to hit Autotrader, although i'm going to be hard pressed to find something close.
Yes, you're correct. I cant see me having the time to drive both but yes, it is an optionORIGINAL: daro911If you could keep the Spyder you will have covered 2 key areas. 1 hour old , fully loaded R for sale Cliff I was buying this car( but could not shift my BMW quick enough) so both owners can be traced http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/porsche/cayman/porsche-cayman-r-987-gen-ii-2012-manual-high-spec-immaculate-condition/1906498 big spec and leather dash
Mr D - good find! 993AL - very similar spec to mine save for the colour and the short shift. ralphmusic - good find! Didn't know those came with that engine - not sure my Mrs would ever get in it (perhaps this is a good thing?) stuartelec - not an easy task - not sure if ralphmusic or MrD are currently winning... Think we need a Spyder forum with different threads, I can hardly keep up this afternoon.

Nope, having had a look, there is nothing out there that would temp me from my Spyder. Nothing even comes close.
Thumbs up[]ORIGINAL: Stuartelec Nope, having had a look, there is nothing out there that would temp me from my Spyder. Nothing even comes close.
I could sell up my cars and buy a 991GT3 but then have to live with electric steering and PDK all be it the very best of Electric and PDK I guess. I did think long and hard about it though, but decided to keep what I had. Just cannot spend £110k with out ever seeing it or driving it. and with 250 cars and the RS coming out soon, you will be able to pick up one under list when all 250 have landed and people have flipped them for the RS. is the new 991 GT3 a step to far ? Walter Rohrl seems to think it is. only time will tell.
Seems very good value even for a private sale with that spec !ORIGINAL: MrDemon 1 hour old , fully loaded R for sale Cliff I was buying this car( but could not shift my BMW quick enough) so both owners can be traced http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/porsche/cayman/porsche-cayman-r-987-gen-ii-2012-manual-high-spec-immaculate-condition/1906498 big spec and leather dash
yes cars that spec are far a few between, I had to let the 1st owner down, but was very upfront with why. makes no odds to me private vs OPC, if you want the spec and the cars in OPC warranty why should there be a price difference on these types of cars. some one in the UK will by that car for its spec, Will my mate or Cliff get to it 1st though, I keep telling my friend to buy it it only wants for a SS kit at £450 fitted and perfect.
