Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

So while i am waiting patiently for a Spyder to come up for sale, i thought i would see what the rest of the world has to offer...Some of them are interesting!! Of all the OPCs in the land, Wilmslow is the one that would most suit the black and orange car [:D] I think the offy up the road in Alderley Edge sells more bottles of champagne than anywhere else in the world. Including Champagne. Things have moved on since my Dad bought a Morris Ital 1.3 HL in champagne beige (really) from the long departed Austin Rover dealers in 1984...

Rob, I knew there was quality in your background just like me--I had a Morris Marina 1800 company car for 18 mths or so until 1974-really went well as long as the road was pretty straight[&o]

Only 2 OPC Spyders again now. Both are black, both have Spyder wheels. One has sports seats with MT, the other buckets with PDK. Which will go first?![&:][:)]

Quick question for you Spyder experts! What effect does the Sports and Sports Plus buttons have on the traction/stability control (PSM?) if any? I seem to remember hearing that Sports Plus increases slip angles before stepping in, if so is there any adaption in Sports? Took my Spyder for its first run of 2014 yesterday! Lovely day around the Surrey/Sussex/Kent back roads but some roads have deteriorated so badly over the winter it's like driving on farm tracks! Quick photo after a wipe down yesterday

ORIGINAL: rob.kellock Wouldn't have said it was that high but they certainly king of the used Spyder sales. Anyone checked out the OPCs though? New to market (i can never make the links work) at Cambridge OPC is a black PDK car with Spyder alloys and buckets. F o r t y s i x grand!!!!!
Looking for something else stumbled on this[:D] http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/987-981-forum/748564-chris-harris-boxster-spyder-on-twitter.html Chris Harris made the following comments on Twitter about the Boxster Spyder chris harris ‏@harrismonkey 1h Saw two Boxster Spyders out in the sunshine yesterday. Splendid little car. Will become increasingly sought-after. @harrismonkey agree! I think it will be more of a collector than most of the 911 variants down the road. That's just a special little car. Monkey Harris didn't do a video review of the Spyder. But this is what he wrote: It rained so hard on Saturday night that five inches of snow disappeared. How depressing. One assumes it will now rain until December, whereupon it will snow and the UK will close for business. But, and I use the word 'but' in a way that introduces the most fanciful reaches of the conditional tense, were we to have a hot, balmy summer, I have decided that I would like to be driving a Boxster Spyder. Lots of lovely trimmings despite weight savingI keep looking at these. For a limited run machine which happens to be one of the best drivers' cars the company has made in the past decade, they look good value to me. Essentially a Boxster with a crud roof, a Cayman R engine, and a 90kg weight reduction over a standard S the Spyder is one of those rare machines which creates a driving experience much more special than its meagre list of modifications would suggest. I first drove one in the UK when it was raining and thought that despite feeling more alert than the standard car, I couldn't see the point of the silly roof and extra cost. Then I drive one in the hills around LA a while back and completely fell for it. There's a strong argument for saying it's the sweetest road car Porsche has made in a while: small enough to be threadable, fast enough to not infuriate. Focused, faster and a faff but super with itThese are now lurking around in the early £30K range as retail cars, which means they're changing hands on the other side of the fence for high 20s. Making a judgment on driving experience versus cost, that must make the Boxster Spyder one of the best value used cars out there. I would like a red one with silver wheels, but no such car is currently for sale. So of the available stock, I think this black one looks jolly appealing.

Well remembered! Original article is here: [link]http://www.pistonheads.com/roadtests/doc.asp?c=1&i=27025[/link]

Big E Your car looks stunning what is the finish to your wheels ...not the standard silver by the looks of them

Good question maybe the cheapest one or maybe one of the 2 black Spyders currently with Indi's both manual one with buckets one with full Carrera Red heated chairs :ROFLMAO:

Thanks! They are standard colour but had a very low sun and added a filter through iPhoto. I do like the darker finish from the 991 that one of the guys here has got though!

Maybe[:)] Let's assume the price of the higher priced one is a little bit more negotiable than the lower priced one, though I don't expect them to knock £3K off, but it also has half the miles, which might have extra value to some. I'll take a punt on the PDK car with buckets and half the miles because buckets with PDK AND with less than 5K miles is probably harder to come by these days than buckets or sports seats with manual AND few cars are under 5K miles these days.

Taken from my Spyder Hardback Brochure Selecting the Sport Mode makes the throttle more responsive and uncompromising with PDK you also get Sport Plus allowing for faster short shift times and launch control for a racing start It doesn't mention anything about altering the sensitivity of the traction control but I do believe that is also part of the Sport & Sport Plus features. It also doesn't mention when in Sport Plus mode 7th gear is locked out or the fact that the redline limiter is hit harder than a non SC car I am sure if this info is wrong or missing more features Mr D could complete the circle[;)]

Talking about numbers here are a few from across the pond[;)] http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/987-981-forum/732825-official-porsche-archive-production-figures-for-the-my2011-my2012-987-boxster-spyder.html Over the past few years, we have had some very interesting conversations on this forum regarding the Boxster Spyder, its success or failure as 'seller' for PAG and its total production numbers. I have followed this model with particular interest since the late summer of 2010 and have written several threads (see various links below) that hopefully furthered the discussion on the subject. Recently Rennlist member Only1Buck (Steve) asked me to give him the name of a contact I had in Germany which could shed some light on final Spyder production numbers. Only1Buck got a response from a representative of PAG in Zuffenhausen (I will let him identify the source if he wants to) which claimed that their official archive (Historisches Archiv) records show the following data: 33 Spyders built in Calendar Year 2009 1418 Spyders built in Calendar Year 2010 493 Spyders built in Calendar Year 2011 0 Spyders built in Calendar Year 2012 According to my apps HOW MANY LEFT there are 109 manuals + 2 sorn and 75 PDK 10! sorn which is strange as I was told in writing by PCGB there were 237 UK cars registered in total[&o]

1944 total build world wide? Thought we has a different number to that previously? Does the reduced number of UK cars mean they are being exported? Never read of one being sold abroad yet?

I have always understood the number produced was under 2000 so 1944 sounds feasible I have no idea how many "R"'s were made but according to apps How Many Left 110 manuals & 116 PDK's so presumably a similar number in total worldwide to Spyders According to that USA site UK figures were 212 from PCGB but 230 were recorded as registered so all a bit of a mystery but if anyone at PCGB wants to post the correct figures on here please do so [:D]

going by vins ROW(Rest of world) last 4 digits go to circa 1600 and North America last 4 digits go to circa 3500 so roughly over 5100 cayman Rs were built if not more.as regards number of UK spyders I have always used the DVLA website first registered new which if I remember is 231 cars(I have given the year and gearbox split before)this is more accurate than the how many left site so did 6 go abroad when new.as regards total number of spyders built I recall reading a couple of years ago a number of circa 1880.

Not sure if that's a scientific way of working it out [:D][:D][:D]
