Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Yes the GTS looks good in the right colour and offers a little extra shove but like someone said production numbers will not make it exclusive like the Spyder. The price can be pretty eye watering if you go for all the Bells and Whistles. One thing that annoys me about all PORSCHE softops/cabriolets call them what you will is that since day one they have never been able to come up with a design that hides the hood/soft top when it is down. This applies right back through the range since the 356 to the early 3.2 cab and even the cars in the showroom today show at least a foot soft top. Now this does not look to bad if your car is black and the soft top is black. But when you have Guards Red and a Black top and the hood is down in my opinion looks awful.[] On all cars it completely ruins the lines of the car. At least the Spyder does not suffer this, as clever as the design is we are still back in the sixties with this technology. See what I mean?[:-]

You would need a Spyder to see what you mean [:D]otherwise first time callers/viewers might be somewhat confused :ROFLMAO:

Now that the 4C is being offered with more conventional headlights, it will appeal to more new sports car buyers than it did before. Probably already sold out with its contentious headlights though. http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/alfa-romeo-4c-coupe-offered-new-headlight-design 4C or GTS? Massive price difference. Similar on-road performance?

GTS [;)]Has a boot that can carry 2 sets of golf clubs: 2 year service intervals: conventional bodywork for any unforeseen repairs[]: far more dealers to choose from: better proportions IMO: more cabin space: better quality fixtures & fittings: Porsche brand v Alfa no contest:

Carrying 2 sets of golf clubs!! You're thinking way to practically for me[:D] Brand perception is so strong, but the reality can often be different[;)] http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/consumer-news/86210/porsche-and-bentley-among-worst-offenders-car-electrical-faults#ixzz2wJwXy9bm

Welcome to the OCD section of this forum :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
We should have a Concours sub-section, a 'Spyder vs' sub-section, a 'show us where you've been to enjoy yours' sub-section, etc. etc. But I think we'll be stuck on this record breaking thread until we reach the limit of the platform[:D]

It's up here against another wannabe Cayman crusher[;)] http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=29651

[:)] I do concede that the 4C is neither winning reviews against Lotus in Lotus' niche space, nor is it winning reviews against Porsche at what Porsche does well, sitting somewhere is the middle with no direct competitor. It's the kind of car where i'd have to put all the journo reviews aside and do my own review. For me it's a bit like with the early reviews of the Spyder that said the ride was too hard, the roof too fiddly and not worth the premium over and S, none of which I found to be true when I drove one myself. It's no Porsche for sure, neither is it a Lotus. The reviews seem to be getting worse and worse. The first ones I read said it had brilliant brakes and oodles of grip. Then others say the opposite[&:] The power to weight ratio is attractive combined with the alleged grip levels (which seems to be impressive or non-existent, depending on who reviews) makes me want to consider it. The engine may need to be kept in a sweet spot when driving, to keep close to the peak power and torque from the turbo. But after having the Spyder i'm intrigued go lighter and lighter with my sports cars. If its not a great experience, coming back to a Porsche will be all the more sweeter. Sometimes playing safe isn't as enlightening without an alternate experience to compare against[:)] And most fundamentally, a GTS is way out of my budget, nor does a 2.7 provide enough bang for my buck[:)]

Very nice 997 GTSs are currently £60k at OPCs - just over 2/3 the original price of a reasonably specced new one. I would prefer one of them to a new Boxster I think. GTS Boxster at £63k with a few "must have" options seems very dear to me compared to the original price for the Spyder and there are plenty of nearly new 981Ss at very significant savings on their new list price. Of course, there will be no deals on GTSs for a while but you'll probably get all the options you want for free if you buy a pre-registered one just before Christmas... [;)]

The 800 mile £40k private Spyder has turned into a £46k OPC Spyder [:D] and it's a genuine very late model with a "C" vin no Transmission: Automatic Fuel: Petrol Colour: Carrara White Colour (interior): Black leather interior with sport seats Location of the car: Porsche Centre Leeds Vehicle Ident Number: WP0ZZZ98ZCS740128 Mileage: 888 m Registration Year: 12/11 Consumption - urban: 14.0 l /100km (20 mpg) Consumption - extra urban: 6.6 l/100km (43 mpg) Consumption combined: 9.3 l/100 km (30 mpg) CO2-Emissions combined: 218 g Price: £ 45,990 Equipment 19-inch Boxster Spyder Wheel Cup holder Floor mats Fully automatic climate control Heated seats ParkAssist (rear) Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including navigation module Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) Roll-over bar in exterior colour Sound Package Plus including CD storage Sport Chrono Package Plus SportDesign steering wheel Sports seats

Well if that other one sold for £46k last week... Seats / gears / no sports exhaust - if you want the perfect three, still gotta go Cat D [:D]

or buy off me at 50k (seems better value as it has PCCB over the 46k one with out, and of course full leather and PSE)

The 6k mile black with Carrera Red interior £39k Spyder is no longer on Pistonhead tonight so its just a chouce of 2 white Spyders on there now[;)]

ORIGINAL: MrDemon nope :-( I'll keep what I have........ said it many times before, if I buy another sports car it will have to be a F430 :)
Have to agree with Mr D, love what I have but F430 prices are looking very attractive just now and one of the only cars I would sell for. Not that much more for 430 Spider over coupe either. Would love a 458 but F430's are approx 80 - 100K cheaper at moment.............Very tempting! Kenny Spyder
