The after market exhaust could quite easily null & void the 2 warranty! Fortunately I believe the PSE was not one of the must have options for flat6 and he can now listen to his stereo in a 911 Turbo FHC[] I tried a morning session at PEC in a GTS Cabrio manual with PSE and left impressed but not excited by the best part of £90k for a new one and waiting 2 years for the £60k+ used minter wasn't top of my option lists but was being considered until I stopped by OPC Silverstone on my way home to drive a 4k mile used Spyder. Just 10 minutes and a few miles and my search for a Spyder was in full swing and the plan to wait for the £60k + GTS was filed. The car I tested wasn't to my liking as a must have option for me was full leather and PSE but the car was 99% sold and was confirmed sold the very next dayORIGINAL: philnotts99 Its quite funny how many cars we all have in common. The biggest issue for me was the sound. It sounded like a tractor. I could of fitted a aftermarket exhaust but even these didnt sound great. The GTS was like a watered down version of the GT3. Fast, handled well, sounded good with the sports exhaust and was comfy. They are also holding there value quite well now. Phil

Also...Has anyone noticed that the 911 V manual Spyder has sold now again. Phil
Yup. I spoke to Dan at 911V yesterday and was planning to go and have a look at it this week. Guess that's a journey I don't need to make now []ORIGINAL: philnotts99 Also...Has anyone noticed that the 911 V manual Spyder has sold now again. Phil
Thanks RobS, RobK, yeah it is the dream car for me[]. It's the one I want. A run down to Jasmine sounds like a plan[]. That'll also be R5's club night so will check what they've got on and then decide[] Part of the reason for choosing this particular car is that if I did have a change of heart, it's a nice example to move on. I've seen 60K+ mile examples for more that what i'm paying, like the one at PC Wilmslow. The OPC prices are a bit all over the place! It was missing cruise and short shift but i'm getting those added. I hear you MrD and you have some valid points evaluating from that angle. I have done my homework though and what i'm looking for the gen 1 turbo fits the bill. I've not even bothered to drive one locally as i'd still buy one anyway. There are advantages to Tiptronic on the turbo. Also, I believe that first gear is very short and you reach the red line before you know it, so the manual will keep me on my toes for sure! I read that Tiptronic sets off in second gear until you teach it / communicate with it that you want to get off promptly. But, I just fancied manual for this one[] I do actually want to try the old school Porsche, well, not too old school, so it fits the bill there. I could spout about how it's the pinnacle of the Mezger engined turbo that was first mated to AWD in a 911 in the 993 and developed through the 996 until its final iteration in the 997.1. Someone will write a story in the future about why this model has some cachet for that reason. Or maybe not![] Or I could spout about it having the Mezger engine that has 20+ years of racing development and heritage and is now too expensive for mass production and so was replaced by the cheaper DFI engine, blah blah blah. Someone might write a story about that too on the gen 1 turbo's headstone[]. But putting all the sentimental stuff to one side, I just want one and I don't mind all those hundreds of parts in that old engine thrumming away with no effort made to sound nice. I'd go for the later model with the Sound Symposer if i wanted that [] http://www.caranddriver.com/features/faking-it-engine-sound-enhancement-explained-tech-dept So I haven't really chosen it against the backdrop of the newer models nor solely on budget (as a Nissan GTR will go faster for the money). I've chosen it as an older car. (I like the 964 turbo too but can't afford one! But I wouldn't measure that one against the latest and greatest either.) The gen 2 car I don't know why but has not quite grabbed my interest. It has all the electronic systems that start with Pxx, such as PTV, that make it the superior car to drive, but for my 911 experience I don't fancy all that (I've actually promised my son in front of witnesses that he will get to drive this one - yes, i've got a strong will to keep this one a long time and don't fancy all the Pxx systems to look after over the long term. Just getting tired of sinked loads of dosh into buying cars, but let's see if I can actually kick the habit![8D]). Looking at futures, I think the 997.2 PDK DFI turbo, being the first iteration of that type, may descend into obscurity; a stepping onto more and more improved versions of that blueprint in the 991 turbo and beyond. I think turbos take a long long time to mature into a classic because they are more about succeeding tech with more tech so people just want to keep going for the latest and greatest until years and years later an old model may become sought after. But all that aside, I just didn't feel for one. The interior will be almost identical to my old Cayman, so there'll be no surprises for me there. Might miss the bluetooth phone connection at most. Thought about stretching to a late 2008 / 2009 car as they have PCM3 which looks nicer, but that would be a large expenditure for bluetooth integration! The rest of the cabin is pretty much the same gen 1 to gen 2 in 997 and 987. Have already thought about Sport Classic wheels for the future but we'll see...[8|] Have never had any desire for a cabrio before the Boxster Spyder and have no desire for another unless I was buying another Boxster Spyder. That was just a special car and worth deviating from my coupe preference for. A 911 without a roof is an even bigger no no for me personally. Phil, you've just made me want one even more![]
ORIGINAL: yod Did someone post a pic on here in the last few days of a Spyder with an alcantara wheel and gearlever surround? I'm sure I saw it and thought it looked great, but now I can't find it. Would anyone know what option that was? Cheers yod
Ta. Not the photo I was thinking of (got no idea where I saw it now) but shows what I wanted to see. Is this the extended alcantara option?ORIGINAL: daro911ORIGINAL: yod Did someone post a pic on here in the last few days of a Spyder with an alcantara wheel and gearlever surround? Aston Vantage Volante N400 was a massive disappointment IMO Soundtrack right up there with any Ferrari but the rest was just very dated, heavy, wide old school British GT cruiser capable of 12mpg and £1200+ once every year servicing About as far removed from a Spyder/R to drive as you can get[]ORIGINAL: MrDemon Another nice car for that money would be a Aston n420 always hankered after that ltd ed model with the buckets ofcourse . And then back to the alway there Audi R8 manual , great value now.
I don't think so, I just found that one (it was MrD that posted it [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/fb.asp?m=821648]here[/link]). It might have been on PH. Doesn't really matter anyway, the ones that daro911 posted show what I wanted to see [] Edit: except for those brown seats, I could have done without seeing them []ORIGINAL: flat6 Yod, are you thinking of the pic someone posted of a GT3 RS 4.0 wheel & gear lever in a Spyder, with the red alcantara bits?

no this was a £1200 option. i do have to agree with a lot of what mr d says apart from the audi tt part it might be quick but its still an audi at the end of the day. if was ever to go 911 i love the idea of a 997.2 manual non pasm car.yes its not quicker than the spyder but i like the purity of it.ORIGINAL: yodTa. as for the caymanR had every intention of buying one but when i test drove one i thought it didnt offer much more than my non pasm 18" wheel 987.1 cs so was not worth the £25k to change.never test drove the spyder but i knew it would drive well but i loved the look of the car and thats what sold it to me!and as time passes by it never fails to impress! so we go back to what do you replace the spyder with as the current line up of new porsches fail to impress and if was to go new it would be a 991pdk or in 3years a 911 turbo pdk when its half price! other manufactures well the 458 spyder is too rich for me but when my numbers come in thats on my wish list
Nothing sadly Exige v6 but to expensive imo Older Exige 260cup. Great car if no Spyder was available this would be my fun 2nd car. As for the Aston n420 yes not my fun car but for my daily yes prob over a 997.1 turbo. Loads better than the 4.3 older cars. And the extra sills, clear lights bucket seats and that sounds , it would be an event every drive and people will let you out a side road
Flat6 wouldn't look like a tit if he was driving a pink Micra convertible. He's just too kool for skool!! []
