Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

What to replace a Spyder with is a tough one Spyderwhite. In a way I didn't even try - went for something totally different which isn't expected to offer anything of what the Spyder offers and vice versa.

ORIGINAL: tyinsky Flat6, that turbo sounds ideal. Seats in the back, 200mph Porsche. And unlike some of the suggestions in this thread like an R8 you won't look a tit. Congratulations on the new car - the old one is still being loved :)
ORIGINAL: rob.kellock Flat6 wouldn't look like a tit if he was driving a pink Micra convertible. He's just too kool for skool!! [:D]
[:D] Thanks tyinsky[:)]. Audis have always looked a bit too much like they're hewn from granite, to go with their good reputation of being solid cars. Then I used to see them as FWD cars that used AWD on their top models to counter the deficiencies of their cars designed ultimately as FWD. But then that was the saloons etc. I've never really given much thought to how good or average their sports cars are, apart from here where I wasn't impressed that an extra ~100HP in the R8 was spurned to go slower than our little whipper-snapper. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im5BSKMd0Ss Audi TTRS. Is it any good? I don't know anything about it. The TT used to share its floor plan with the rest of Volkwagen's FWD range from the Golf through to SEAT Leon through to the Skoda hatchback that I don't recall the name of. That was the one where they had to retrofit a rear wing because it was spitting owners off into a ditch. I trust the new ones don't do that but I never really mustered any Audi interest. I know they have a good history with developing their Quattro system in rallying and they win LeMans with diesel MPG but haven't heard much else that they are notorious for. Excuse my ignorance[&o] Is the base TT still FWD? 'They' always say that the handling of performance Audis with Quattro is a bit dead, but does give plenty of grip. Maybe i'm missing out but unlike cars like Ferrari that make you interested in wanting to try one, Audi has yet to show me a reason to get intrigued. Maybe when I want a performance diesel[X(]

ORIGINAL: philnotts99 I liked my TTRS but it doesn't have anything on any Porsche i have owned before, fun car though and sounded good. Phil
http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/audi/tt-rs The Audi TT RS is a very alluring car now that the promise of truly dramatic performance Iies wrapped within its shapely shell. And the turbocharged five-cylinder engine certainly delivers it in spades, thanks to the RS’s excellent grip, traction and stability. Hot TT RS is still not the sports machine that it could be But in a market packed with buyers focused on buying the best, the TT RS lacks the finesse of the Cayman, while the brilliant dynamic subtleties of its R8 brother are missing, as they are in virtually every lesser Audi. That’s a real disappointment, especially when the company has gone to the trouble of reinventing a blown five-cylinder engine to go with it. The RS’s jostling ride, deadened responses and heavy high-speed steering lose it the dynamic edge that a car of this calibre ought to offer, and never mind its engine’s unrelenting energy. It gets closer, this TT, but it’s still not the sports machine that it could be.

it was down played by Jurbo's imo the electric steering etc, but guess what all new Porsche have shit steering now lol as normal a few choice mods, ARB, Pilot SS and a geo sorted out the car very well and £600 for a remap to kill a 911 turbo performance was amazing, 40-60 mph in 1.2 seconds in my car. made any R8 feel like a Ford KA in performance. at Vmax I outdraged most cars, and as I said that engine was a sweet thing and just the cheapest way to get a 100mph new car do sub 8 seconds. it was what it was but I could beat a mk1 GTR in it and any thing elose this side of 500bhp and that was the fun bit, the DSG guys were killing every thing and winning drag events every trip out. Still the fastest thing A to B imo and was a true 911 killer , why does every 911 owner want to floor it when you are behind them, but this time only to find me flashing them over :) every time, and it happened often was pure smiles per mile http://youtu.be/mARPQvPTx_g the thing is, like a GTR or a 911 turbo, when you get board of the performance, all these cars then lack that back to basic involment, but I did keep that 2 years which is longer than most cars. the GTR boys and the 911 turbo boys just end up tuning and tuning to keep the interest, but it never really helps, once you are fed up of the power sell it.

I think therein lies the crux of the disconnect. Depending on what someone wants to use a car for will influence what car they want. Drag racing takes us into a whole different area. Over to the drag racing boys to chew the fat on that one.

So a Golf/A3/TT is a much faster than a 911 Turbo? A generic front wheel drive platform shopping car? Is that just in a straight line?
