Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

fitting my roof back on today i undone the velcro around the offside rear clip(the one that clips to the rear deck) and it has a piece of cloth with part no. and build date of the part mine being 14.06.11.did porsche make the roofs as the cars were built or were they made in small batches as my car had a uk delivery date of circa 05/07/11 on the copy of the dealers coms. sheet i have.either way it gives a rough idea of the age of the car if not bought as per a new order

ORIGINAL: MrDemon When I have loan cars, I let the car change up, but I chance down , the biggest issue for me is the car not changing down in time, but then no way it will ever do that.
Sounds like you are not adjusting your driving style to 21st century paddle shifters. Even the 3 amigos on TG have stopped bitching on and on about flappy paddles and dare I say even seem to be having more fun with the cars as they no longer have to worry about another burnt out clutch or broken gearbox [:D] I know you are in I.T. but I bet you don't use a Sinclair ZX81 any longer[;)] [:D]

Did Porsche make the roof or buy it in And car factories all work on a J.I.T. system so roof wouldn't need to be made and ready until shortly before production line will be requiring it New Page New Pic

I don't like where I.T is going either, pay per month , every thing cloud based, people are seeing far more down time and are more annoyed and it,s costing more.

I was at the Camrbidge Centre on both Saturday and Sunday - Saturday this was £39K as copied and printed below - now back on at £42K[&:]
ORIGINAL: jdpef356 Went to PC Cambridge yesterday - Lets hope its a great weekend for Porsche at Le Mans. Our Porsche Centre Cambridge will be open today 10am - 9pm and Sunday 9am - 4pm For a specially themed Le Mans weekend. For members who have pre booked the centre will be offering refreshments guided tours of the Centre and some pro drives. Forgot to mention the race, no doubt live on a large screen. Who knows the refreshments could turn to Champagne on Sunday afternoon. I took a look at the Spyder they have for sale. Compared to the rest of the market this look excellent value at just under £40K and has all the right bit (for me) Of the current offerings I think this will be first to go! --------------------------------- Porsche Boxster Spyder, £ 39,900 With 2 Years of Porsche Approved Warranty Save vehicle Car data Displacement: 3,400 cc Power Output: 310 HP Drivetrain: 2-WD Transmission: Manual Fuel: Petrol Colour: Basalt Black Metallic Colour (interior): Black leatherette interior with sports seats leather Location of the car: Porsche Centre Cambridge Vehicle Ident Number: WP0ZZZ98ZBS740146 Mileage: 6,799 m Registration Year: 04/10 Consumption - urban: 14.2 l/100km (19.9 mpg) Consumption - extra urban: 7.1 l/100km (39.8 mpg) Consumption combined: 9.7 l/100 km (29.1 mpg) CO2-Emissions combined: 221 g Price: £ 39,900 Equipment 19-inch Boxster Spyder Wheel 6-speed manual transmission Bi-Xenon lighting system with dynamic cornering lights Floor mats Fully automatic climate control Heated seats ParkAssist (rear) Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including navigation module Roll-over bar in exterior colour Sound Package Plus including CD storage Sport Chrono Package Plus Sport shifter Sports exhaust system Sports seats Telephone module for PCM Universal audio interface Wheel centre set

ORIGINAL: MrDemon Which is the wrong way round :-( As you brake you want to push forward, as you gain speed you want to pull back. Like a race car :) If I get PDK it will just be used in sports plus and I will have to wait for it to kick down after the corner !!! The thing I noticed about robs car, was a: the ease of just driving it round the track, ie nothing to do, seemed dull to me. , no over steer, no gear change, just steer point and brake. b: it changes down gear after the corner. In a manual you want to be in the right gear before the bend, PDK of course does not know there is a bend coming, so has to make up it's mind later. Bit shit really :) Then people say use manual mode , in which case just buy the manual ! And save the 30kg's When I have loan cars, I let the car change up, but I chance down , the biggest issue for me is the car not changing down in time, but then no way it will ever do that.
If you stay in auto, why don't you tap the throttle as you approach the bend to get PDK to change down earlier?

so you are on the 100% limit of traction and threashold braking on track into a bend and you want me to tap the throttle ;-) not going to happen is it ? I take it you don't track your cars. hence why it's best to change down on your own. Or as Rob did leave it to do it's thing and it kicks down after the bend.

If you have a PDK box you have to change gears using the stick if the car has no paddles SIMPLES If you have paddles then there is no issue at all

ORIGINAL: spyderwhite my first time with pdk is yes its smooth and quick but it just does not do it for me and i would argue a pdk 981s cayman is no quicker than my manual spyder.after driving the cars then driving my spyder my car felt more agressive and more urgent more alive and even felt more torquey and a proper drivers car.
So just imagine how good a PDK Spyder is then...... smooth, quick, aggressive and more urgent..... As per Rob K, it takes plenty of time to get to get the most out of it, and then it's very quick and great fun.

if it changes gear after the bend it's always going to be slower :) (PDK stick is also the wrong way round, so as you are braking hard into a bend you have to try and put back on the stick fighting the G) Also the 981 PDK is a far better unit vs the older 987 PDK units, it learns far better and has less issues dropping down the box fast, in the 987.2 car it does get unhappy. which leaves you having to drive a Auto in manual !!! then as I have said just buy that manual. no fun in PDK for me what so ever, hence it will be a hard choice on the GT4 and has been a topic for 12 months on the 991 GT3 and has seen 997.2 prices rocket 25k in the last 4 months for people who want that interaction. less interaction just means less enjoyment for me personally on my fun car. it's great on a turbo car as it keeps the turbo's on full blat and if you buy a turbo you are buying it for speed alone any way. to loose a 10th on a second on a upshift on a fun weekend car matters not and just ruins the car and can be seen on the 997.2 cars the manual In the future will be the more expensive car by miles. each to their own though, EVO put it much better than I do in the last mag.

was Rob having great fun at the last track day ? imo he would have had more fun in his old car on track. the car just went where he put it till the tyres loss grip, then the car was pushed over the tyres limit of grip and the tyres got shagged due to the car just under steering like a pig on every bend. I went in it, and it was all too easy, he went in mine and I was working like a dog ;-), we both did about the same lap times. but his car was over the limit of grip and my car had plenty in hand if I were a good enough driver to get more from it. but for Robs needs the Caymans is a great car, the Spyder makes a shit daily runner. I am sure he would like both. but as a owner of both and tracking both I put money of Rob saying the Spyder in manual on track is more fun than his PDK Cayman is. we will find out soon enough when he posts ;-)

Hi Guys Just back from the Le Mans 24hr .... the one and only Blue Spyder spotted SP11DEE belong to Stuart ..I do hope I have the right name ..left a note on the screen and he tracked me down had a nice chat mostly about Spyders[;)]. Well this was my first time and was enjoyable and plenty of atmosphere...but I do not think camping is my thing[:D] We where on Porsche Curves and saw plenty action .Went to Republic sq in Le Mans centre on the Friday night and watched the parade of the drivers in some classic cars . On race day we where up early and went to the Porsche Cup garages more than 60 cars on view and later on saw them on track .We also did the pit walk it was a spectacular sight looking into the garages. The start of the race was great watching then do a parade lap then the lights change and they thunder past the pits up to the Dunlop bridge the noise is ear shattering especially the Corvettes ,the LMP1 cars of Toyota ..Audi.. Porsche[].. sound like electric cars by comparison . All in all I would say a must for petrol heads Trust the French to go on strike ..instead of a direct train from CDG to Le Mans taking 90Mins it took 6hrs using 4 different routes ..sadly the same going back to day but in a far shorter time involving a tour of Paris in the Air France airport bus ....then my Easy Jet flights decides to break down and a 3 hour delay whilst a technician looks to fix the fault and all we get is lousy 4.50 Euro food voucher [] would not buy a cup of tea at the airport .. Would I go back possibly but not camping ,will look at the Classic in 2016
