ORIGINAL: kitchens Hi Guys Just back from the Le Mans 24hr .... the one and only Blue Spyder spotted SP11DEE belong to Stuart ..I do hope I have the right name ..left a note on the screen and he tracked me down had a nice chat mostly about Spyders[;)]. Well this was my first time and was enjoyable and plenty of atmosphere...but I do not think camping is my thing[:D] We where on Porsche Curves and saw plenty action .Went to Republic sq in Le Mans centre on the Friday night and watched the parade of the drivers in some classic cars . On race day we where up early and went to the Porsche Cup garages more than 60 cars on view and later on saw them on track .We also did the pit walk it was a spectacular sight looking into the garages. The start of the race was great watching then do a parade lap then the lights change and they thunder past the pits up to the Dunlop bridge the noise is ear shattering especially the Corvettes ,the LMP1 cars of Toyota ..Audi.. Porsche[].. sound like electric cars by comparison . All in all I would say a must for petrol heads Trust the French to go on strike ..instead of a direct train from CDG to Le Mans taking 90Mins it took 6hrs using 4 different routes ..sadly the same going back to day but in a far shorter time involving a tour of Paris in the Air France airport bus ....then my Easy Jet flights decides to break down and a 3 hour delay whilst a technician looks to fix the fault and all we get is lousy 4.50 Euro food voucher [] would not buy a cup of tea at the airport .. Would I go back possibly but not camping ,will look at the Classic in 2016
I think you'll enjoy the Classic, I went to the last one having been to the 24hr many times and really enjoyed the difference. The Classic is a bit more civilised.... BUT one of the best parts for me is the journey (although I appreciate you've got a long way to come before crossing the channel!), it's fantastic seeing all the variety of metal at Dover and en-route. Well worth taking some more time and making an adventure of it.

Yes, we shared our train compartment with an aventador, 360, and Nissan GTR. The car park for euro tunnel on Thursday morning was pure car porn!! Had an epic drive down on empty French roads( apart from Brits) sun shining, cars roaring, it was a blast!! A bit more reserved on trip back... Nice to catch up with fellow Porsche owners on the Porsche curves with Lycian events who did a great job of looking after us and keeping our cars safe(Friday night was very wild). Also great to meet Brian (kitchens) who left a note on the Spyder telling me where to find him!! Every one should go its a Mecca for car enthusiasts!!

Stuart . ...nice putting a face to a fellow Spyderman I agree it was very wild ,but I suppose that is part of the attraction for some ...it was like living in a war zone with those fire works .and being next door to a rave cub [:D] [:D] I think I will try the Classic at some point . Billy 1 I agree it is a fair haul but I suppose I should make the effort as many do ....perhaps the classic is best .Meet a nice guy on the train back and said I should join in the parade laps for the Brits www.classicbw.org Brian

GTS VIP day was not as expected, in fact quite an annoying day. got their on time, at 10 am, should start at 10.30 am did not start till 11am. then into a room for a briefing, which then we were all told we will be driving 3 cars a base model Cayman, a Cayman S and the GTS I don't really want to drive the base model Cayman or S thanks been there done it, it should be a VIP GTS day, so this means of course only a 1/3 of the time in a GTS in our 1 hour driving slot. NO F***NG GTS with Sports chassis. at which point I wish I did not go, that's all I went to drive. GTS without the Sports chassis well , it's a Cayman S it,s no better than one end of. Off to see the organiser "have you got a GTS Sports chassis car here to drive today" answer "no" to which I said "well that's quite frustrating" ok out on track, as some might know it's a small track, so as normal every one who does these days and why I don't like doing these days any more, people are driving at snails space, the instructors in the slow cars don't let you over take and you cannot over take a car until the front car waves you bye, so it's slow progress at best with the odd fast lap. kick plate is easy, you do one correction and you are straight, ok for noobies but we only did it to get out the train of slow cars on track when every one turns up at the kick plate we go out of track for a few fast laps. So what did I gain from it all, well the base model Cayman was the most fun to drive on the small track esp hassling and over taking the people in the GTS and S cars when allowed, GTS may well have been a S in that spec so, woopee it's a 981 Cayman. It's a nice car to drive, we all know this, the 981 is a nicer better built car than the 987, cannot argue that, but it's not as sharp as the R or as Raw, just a very nice sports car. I ended up either trying to find sand to cover the tyres so we could slide the car :) which was a bit of a laugh, or I did the ice hill but up hill with PSM off to hone in my drifting skills. you HAVE to drive 1 manual, one with buttons (ffs) and one with paddles, button car well I hated it, paddle car was to easy no sweat on, but my Cayman S was a manual and yes while the gearing was silly long you just change gear early to play with the auto bip which on a manual car works very very well indeed. I did get a sweat on at the end as I tried to follow an instructor in my manual car on a a few clear laps. what did I learn about the GTS, nothing :-( (it is nice inside though if you DO spec the 2k GTS pack) And last one which ROB will know well, most of the cars had pirelli tyres on,(useless tyres) well these were all melted and were ripped up at the edges hence every few laps we did the ice hill or kick plate to cool the tyres off in the water. after 3 hard laps the instructor could feel them going off, the car understeering and we had to cool them down. why use "Pirelli" on these cars at the PEC was a mistake :-( I though all cars now had pilot SS at the PEC, but sadley not.

they do sound nice yes :) not as low pitched but def louder. I did think about this driving home thinking I like the lower tone of the R better, but some don't like the lower tone as it does drone on the motorway a bit esp as my car is unplugged so cannot put it in quite mode. all cars were high spec, the best car to drive was the manual Cayman S in sports plus with PCCB's. you are still using all your limbs, but the auto blip just takes that bit off to allow you to drive faster, brake later etc but you still feel 100% involved. the paddle car was easy and as I said did not get a sweat on driving it. I did in the Manual S. makes for a tough call if I go for the GT4 as there is no question not having a clutch does detract from a complete driving Experience but converts that into speed.

Is it correct the auto blip only works in sport plus mode and if so why not in sport only mode[&o]

yes just in sports plus, which is a good idea as in sports mode you can heal and toe if you so wish, so well thought out in the manual car. being manual it does not change gear quicker of course, but both sports options give you that extra slip angle while keeping PSM on as a safety net. So you get to choose if you want to heal and toe or use the auto blip. I was anti auto blip before the drive, but now a convert ;-) perfect down shifts every time, sort of cheating , but not quite going the full hog and cutting off your left leg :)

So to conclude unless you want the extra kit the GTS comes with as standard their is no reason to still not buy a 981 S and save some cash as the 15 bhp isn't worth the money[&o]

But it does have the "essential",to me , bi xenons and sport seats plus as standard ,and as so few seem to spec these ,it will lead to a greater choice on the lightly used market hopefully ,if no Spyder comes up with these !!
