Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: Mayhem911 Doesn't stop people buying them !! All those lardy PDK cars are finding new owners. Lol
people are also buying the lardy PDK GTS cars with PASM, but again it's the reviews of the cars with buckets seats, manual and X73 which are making the press wet themselves. and it seems they are falling over to state in this spec it is the best sports car made today. Market for every spec, just the spec which is not the right spec is not what the rav reviews are ever about :)

To date mine has had no problems and hope it stays that way..off course they took a bit more time making the Red ones [:D][:D] Had it checked at the OPC last month on a open day and the horn was found to be sticking on ,so it needs to be sorted airbag has to be removed about a 2hr job strangely though not a warranty job put will do it under good will. Did notice the underside of the tail pipes are a bit corroded have tried to polish out with Autosolve but no joy Not an issues as not seen . Plan a wee run out tonight down the coast[8D]

Horses for courses. There is a market for every spec, all that proves is that the general buying public choose for them self what is right for them. They won't all be sold with that spec. Behing seduced by the option list just makes Porsche more money .. But the buying public comes in many flavours!! I am sure it will be a great car, wether its manual or not!!

Brian How strange - My horn stuck on whilst in France (and before some bright spark says something about blue pills) neither I or the car had not none![;)] Had to ease out with a soft rubber splint! I think we have found a design fault - of course only applicable to red cars![;)]

ORIGINAL: MrDemon ...I have already converted my Spyder map to a R map, will be changing the exhaust to a wider dia unit like the R...
I am interested in this. What is involved? Especially the exhaust.

I didn't think they did much if nothing to the CaymanR's software, more to do with the increased flow of the exhaust?

If it happens again give the side of the steering wheel a good thud and that seems to do the job ,seemingly the boss is a little to big so can jam in the on position . Nothing wrong with a Blue Pill [;)][;)]

the R maps not the same as the Spyder map. I have had 2 maps on R and now a modded R map to take 98 ron fuel for a bit more poke, it def has more mid range now on the modded R map. Exhaust, well the biggest dia is the 65mm Remus Ti exhaust Carnewal do sell a modded R exhaust now if that is all you want, the PSE weighs more than the R exhaust also the modded R carnewal exhaust will be better/louder than the R PSE and quite cheap at £1050 all in, just not switchable. standard exhaust ie cayman and Spyer 48mm R and R PSE 55mm remus ti 65mm Tubi which imo is the best sounding on this car is 55mm

My horn got stuck too - so not just red cars [:)] Took OPC about 30 mins - I think there's some new spacers that go between the centre-push and the wheel itself. MrD - this R map on the Spyder .... Would I be able to tell any difference and is it done at an OPC ( my car is solely run on V-power)

ORIGINAL: MrDemon think it's about time for some proper sports cars the extra tweeks they did to the Cayman R coming later then the Spyder just make it one of the best cars Porsche has ever made. Porsche were lazy on the Spyder just giving it a bogo S map and no new exhaust system or ARB's I have already converted my Spyder map to a R map, will be changing the exhaust to a wider dia unit like the R and think I might try the R rear ARB as the R is just that little bit tighter at the back. Seems the same with the GTS cars, the Cayman GTS spent 4 weeks longer with the handling team over the Boxster GTS to make sure it was a sweeter driveand had a better ecu map. which just means the R and the Cayman GTS are the better finished and more thought out driving machines over the Boxster models.

This months evo doesn't agree - over some brilliant Majorca roads he was Very excited about the boxster GTS!!

I don't think I ever had to use the horn on my Spyder - people are generally too busy gazing at its beauty - never owned a car that had so much positive attention from other road users before, possibly because its not an aggressive design. Mind you, the red Cayman is no shrinking violet in the sunshine!

Try using 1000 grade fine steel wool on the tailpipes with your Autosol. That's how i clean up my customers exhaust tailpipes. Cheers Cliff

Just remembered your also in the Red rob, just watch out for your horn it could get stuck like ours, that's three now who have had the horn on and it would no go off!

I wouldn't use grade fine steel wool on non Sports (black tips) as it will remove the coating. also mapped your car MrD? have you seen dyno proof these maps are different? Also who did you buy your Remus Ti from? You still have stock headers or Fabspeed?

always horses for courses, just be aware that the cars with PDK, PASM, fat wheels and sports seats etc are not the cars which are getting the rav reviews from people who want a more focused car. A Spyder is not just a Spyder and a GTS is not just a GTS , spec is king, always has been if you want a more driver focused car. So yes while there is a market for every spec, it's a bit daft that people with lard arse spec cars quote the rave reviews which are nothing like the cars they own !!! has nothing to do with being seduced by the option list, it is about what type of car you want to drive, comfort nice every day car or sporty race machine. I don't knock people who want the comfort spec car, My R has loads of weight back in, what I find funny is people quoting reviews and timing sheets of a Spyder beating a R8 when 80% of the Spyders sold would prob lap slower than that R8 in the Test. the Spyder tested was the full monty light weight spec car with PCCB's !!! and when you are talking 8/10ths then that's the only spec which is going to lap faster.

they do agree, read more and have a read of Sutclifts reviews of both, the Caymans stated to be Sharper and faster. most reviews have said the Cayman GTS is the better car. Porsche say the Caymans the better car Porsche also state the Cayman has 4 weeks longer after production to fine tune it to be the better car. who are we to argue that claim ? still makes the Boxster GTS a Very exciting car, just not as good as the Cayman it seems

It was the first and only time I ever used it - trying to get a bloody humongous pheasant (the 'h' is correct...) to shift out of my way!

My Spyder manual had this fault happen twice and never again. My current Spyder PDK[;)]had the horn stick on first day I got it and after giving it a good silicone spraying it hasn't happened since. When it got stuck on I couldn't stop it for a good few minutes and I was getting ready to pull the fuse[] Definitely a design fault as it happened to my nephew only this week and he is trying the silicone spray that worked for me!

I had the same fault on my car Brian, new horn button required, replaced under warranty.
